Chuck & Lynn

 Dear Adoption Network Law Center,

It would be difficult to describe the emotional roller coaster that we have been on for the last two years. The adoption of our daughter Makena has been one of the most exciting, satisfying, thrilling, suspenseful, heart wrenching (we had two failed matches), and joyous experiences of our lives.

Makena, as you might have heard, in Hawaiian means “the gift from God”. Every day she has been in our lives has truly been a gift from God. As with any gift, one feels gratitude and appreciation. For such a wonderful gift it would be appropriate to express our thanks and gratitude. Unfortunately, we feel inadequate to adequately express such strong feelings. Where do we start? Obviously Liz and Dan (the birth parents) gave a gift of incredible value to us. However, we know that this process would never have been joyously completed without the help, oversight, dedication, and the caring of Ellen Edman. This person is not only dedicated to the birth parents and the adoptive parents, but especially to the children whose lives she shepherds through the adoption process. She is truly passionate about her work. Ellen’s passion shows through her caring attitude, commitment to all parties involved, and her love for these children. We cannot imagine going on this roller coaster ride without Ellen Edman by our side reassuring us everything will turn out just fine. She not only made this joyous event possible, she kept us sane through the process. People like Ellen don’t work for just a paycheck, they love what they do, and boy, are we glad.

We are sorry that it took so long to write this letter. New babies certainly keep you busy, but more importantly, we have struggled with the words to appropriately express the joy and gratitude we have from our “gift from God” - MAKENA.

With love & gratitude,

Chuck & Lynn

P.S. “A home without children is like a garden without flowers.” We are looking forward to watching our flower blossom and grow.
