Dear Adoption Network Law Center:
It’s been one full year since we began our adoption journey. But for my husband Pete and me, it was 10 years in the making.
For many years we knew adoption would be our way to having a family. We were fearful of the process, the uncertainty of waiting and the possibility of not having a child in the end. That made it difficult for us to move forward and begin the process. That all changed when we stumbled onto the website for Adoption Network Law Center and more so when we came into contact with Margarethe Smith.
Margarethe was wonderful from the start answering all our questions, calming our fears and laying out the adoption process clearly. We became confident that ANLC would be the ones to help us find our child.
We were selected by a birthmother immediately after our website profile became active, however within a few weeks the birthmother changed her mind. Although it was hard for us to imagine going forward, we knew this was apart of the process and we had to try again. We received tremendous support from Kathy Howard (a birthmother counselor) and Margarethe during this time.
During the next couple of months, we took the time to reflect on the first birthmother and we spent a lot of time preparing for our next birthmother. We did not want fear or reservation (because of the first situation) to enter into this new relationship. Again, we received counsel from Margarethe on this. We felt like we had a friend who understood what we were going through and who was there for us.
In June we got “THE BIG CALL” from Kathy that changed our life. I do not think that Pete and I could have asked for a more perfect match. Our birthmother, Molly was and still is everything we prayed for.
