Our Adoption Network Law Center Journey:
Kim Butts said that a letter of our experiences might be helpful to other couples wanting to adopt. First, let me say that everyone that we dealt with there was wonderful, friendly, caring, and most of all, understanding.
We signed up in the beginning of May 2002. We found the photo album and pictures for the website to be taken care of quickly and with much ease. Our dear birthmother letter was hard, and yet now I know that if you just write from your heart your chosen birthmother will be your match in every way. We were matched with our first birthmother in August of the same year. I was in total shock, because it was so quick.
Our first counselor Sam Ewart was amazing in everything that she did for us. However, the adoption of that baby boy in October was not meant to be. Since this was in Illinois we could not have our counselor present, which was hard, but Sam called us back many times during the course of that weekend. Yes Weekend! She was very helpful and so understanding. That was a very hard time in both of our lives, and yet we know that the 26 hours we had with our son, Matthew before the birthmother changed her mind was the strength we needed to go on with another adoption. It then was in June that we were matched with the birthmother of our prayers. She was truly our match in every way. Our counselor this time was Kim Butts. She was awesome! We also had the birthmothers’ counselor, Carissa at the hospital with us the day after our son was born. Our son Logan Dean was born on July 4th of 2003. When we arrived at the hospital and looked into the face of our birthmother, we knew that this was our angel. She was wonderful. The whole experience was different, relaxed, and loving. We had a mutual respect for each other, as friends usually do. She is a person that we will remain in contact with because we share more then the baby that brought us together - we share our hearts. Our journey with Adoption Network Law Center had a pebble in the road, but our roads are always long. Our road will always have a rainbow of sunshine overhead because of the love and support that they gave us, as well as the true blessing we have received. We would fully recommend Adoption Network Law Center, so much in fact, that we hope to take this journey again if our finances allow us to do so. I hope this gives you the encouragement to open your hearts to the miracle of adoption.
With prayers for your journey,
Ron and Michele
