Dear Birthmother,

Thank you so much for taking the time to read our letter. We know you have a huge decision to make. We’ll do our best to help you get to know us, so you can see if we’d be a good fit for you and your baby. 

We’re Mel and Patti, and we can’t wait to start a family. We’d eventually like to have more than one child, so if you choose us, your baby would be the first, but hopefully not an only child. We both have siblings (five for Patti; two for Mel) and we wouldn’t know what to do without the level of love and support we get from them. We want the same for your baby. From all of our siblings, we have many nieces and nephews. There are 19 so far, and they are of all ages, from playmates to potential babysitters for a new cousin. That makes for a big group of cousins to welcome your baby with very open, excited arms. We are very lucky that our families are in the immediate area, so we see them quite often. In addition, we each have stayed close with our childhood friends. We get together with them and their growing families (more “cousins”) as often as we can.

Education will be a huge emphasis in our household. It’s very important to us (Patti has three degrees in education). We both worked hard in college and we know it played a big part in helping us get to the executive level so early in our careers. It won’t be the only emphasis, though – we believe children are healthiest with a balanced life full of fun, laughter, and good friends. We’d also encourage our child to seek out their own interests and talents – whether that is in sports, arts, music, or something new that they create.

For our own fun, we love to travel, including trips to the beach and snow skiing. We also like to go to countries and towns we know little about just to explore someplace new. While we do a bunch of activities together, we have our own favorites – baseball, golf, and gardening for Mel and running, soccer, and biking for Patti. We’ll soon be moving to a new house and we look forward to fixing it up and adding a baby to make it a true family home. We love to entertain with cookouts and gatherings and can’t wait to share our new baby and house with our families and friends.
