Timothy and Kathryn
Nickname(s): Tim and Kathy
Dear Birthmother,
This letter feels a little like a message in a bottle. A life’s story in a bottle sent into the ocean not knowing who will receive it, but when it is received it will change all our lives forever. And so we thank you for taking the time to read our little “letter in the bottle”. But more importantly, we thank you for the gift you are so bravely giving. We hope our collection of words and photos will tell you enough about our lives for you to decide whether you would like us to be the parents of your baby. Maybe this small look into our lives will say enough about us and the things we like to do, the wonderful family and friends we are blessed to have in our lives, and about the kind of life we hope to give our own family.
Our names are Tim and Kathryn and we have been together since 1999. We met in a comedy club. Tim was doing stand-up comedy at the time. After dating for three and a half years, we married in 2002. This is the first marriage for both of us, and as we attempted to begin building our family, we quickly discovered we had fertility issues. After a few treatments we decided to begin the adoption process, wishing to use our energy toward raising a child who needed a home instead of spending precious time trying to create a new one.
Tim’s career took a different turn after he met Kathryn, toward “business comedy,” where he entertains people at large company parties and conferences instead of in comedy clubs. He travels a couple times a month and uses his spare time writing and directing plays, his real passion. His last play, a comedy of course, ran for a year and is now published. Tim has also been a theater and communications teacher all of his adult life, either as a job or just on his own time with actors who need a mentor. He has worked with every age group imaginable and is really looking forward to using those skills as a teacher inside our home, with our own child.
Kathryn has always had a profound sense of desire to raise a child. She has enjoyed a varied career in music (she still plays her violin), radio, writing and marketing, and she looks forward to using many of those skills in raising a child, multi-tasking all the needs and activities of her family. She works at home, part time, helping Tim with his business, a project manager for another friend’s market research business, and has many other creative projects, such as photography and making home videos.
We appreciate the power of the deep and abiding love of family. We have loving parents, brothers and sisters and we collect friends like family as well. Some of our closest friends are neighbors in our building, and two of them have two young sons. We have cherished every moment we have witnessed, and we like to think we have taken part in raising their children with them. We are very lucky to work from home, leaving plenty of time for the things that matter most. We were raised in strong communities that reinforced the safety and love of family, the beauty of music, the joy of laughter and the desire to share those things with each other, our friends and the community around us. We have a great deal to give to another life and are eager to begin sharing ours, and to experience a new and most special kind of love, that of a parent to a child.
We are sure you will read many beautiful and heartfelt portrayals of lovely couples who could do a wonderful job raising the child you carry into the world. The gift you give to the world is profound. Let us leave you with what we know most about us: We know raising a child to think well of him or herself, stand-up, create, learn, play, love, make mistakes and forgive, will be a great challenge that we look forward to and honor with a deep sense of wonder. Our door is open.
Thank you again for taking a peek into our lives and we wish you all the best with your generous decision.
