From Me to You

Hi, It’s nice to meet you. My name is Lisa and I LOVE to laugh. I think it’s the thing people notice first about me and remember most about me. I have an amazing life and I try to smile and laugh as much as I can. I have a fabulous partner of ten years, Larry. He will tell you he fell in love with my laugh and spends his time trying to keep me laughing (and full; Larry is a great cook!). Larry and I spend most of our time together hiking, walking, and traveling. We both love the outdoors and love to travel. We take several trips a year and spend the time leading up to trips learning about our destinations. We have traveled to much of the United States and a good bit of Europe. One of our recent trips was to see the Macy’s Thanksgiving Day Parade which was a terrific experience I hope to have again.

We tried unsuccessfully for several years to conceive through fertility treatments. After prayerfully deciding to discontinue that path, we knew that we were meant to find our child through adoption. We are very faithful people and believe that God has a plan and a purpose for everything. We know this is our path and that we are meant to find each other – us, you and the child we will share. We are so excited to meet you and to take this journey together. We are already praying for you.

Thank you for spending time getting to know about our life and for considering us. We can’t wait to meet you and to answer your questions. Our whole family is praying for you and your journey!

About Lisa by Larry

Lisa is an attorney working in the healthcare field. She and her company are playing a significant role in our national efforts to find therapeutics and a vaccine to counteract the Covid19 pandemic. Lisa takes her job very seriously and never misses work for frivolous reasons. In fact, since she has been working at home, I have noticed how diligent she is, taking very few breaks and only minimal time for lunch. She is extremely intelligent and has received many accolades for her work from both her peers in the legal profession as well as her company’s management team. Lisa is also very active in both the Association of Corporate Council and the Junior League of Charlotte, holding officer status in both of those organizations. Lisa and I have been together for ten years after my wife passed away. During those ten years she has been not only a wonderful partner but a fabulous stepmother to both of my sons. She has shown both of my sons unconditional love and has provided advice to both of them when they have sought it. Lisa is a very kind and considerate person who never speaks disparagingly of others and is always quick to look for good qualities in other people. As a parent of two wonderful young men, I cannot think of a person who is better suited to be a parent than Lisa. I watch her interact so beautifully with my son’s daughter and I know in my heart that she will provide that same warm, loving care to a child of our own. One of the things that I love best about watching her interactions with children is how much fun she has in the presence of children. Lisa has so many wonderful qualities to share with a child and I’m confident, that if given the opportunity, she will be an exceptional parent, enriching a child’s life as well as having her own life enriched by a child.

About Larry by Lisa

Larry is the partner I always hoped to have. He is kind yet honest, which is why I know when he gives me advice, he is doing it for my benefit. He is smart and nurtures my intellectual and personal growth. He is my cheerleader in life and supports me being my best self in all ways. In our ten years together, Larry has packed my lunch almost every day so that he knows I have good food during my workday. Larry never missed a day, even when he was working as a Managing Director and had a more challenging job. When I shifted to working at home full time, Larry shifted, and we try to eat lunch together most days. Larry encourages me to reach for my goals and to not be afraid to fail. I may not always be successful, but I have grown as a person with his encouragement and achieved many of my goals. I recently pursued a challenging certification to boost my career. Larry encouraged me to pursue my goal and took on many of the home responsibilities while I prepared. When I reached my goal, Larry prepared a special meal and wrote me a card to tell me how proud he is of my dedication and I can do anything I set my mind to do. I love that Larry prays for me every day. When I face challenges, I know that I have his support behind me and that is one of the things that keeps me so positive. As for Larry’s parenting, there is rarely a day that his children do not call or text. It makes my heart warm to see how close they are and to get to be a part of this amazing family.

Family

We have a wonderful family life. Larry has two adult boys, Lawrence and Robert and a daughter-in-law, Jaynie. Robert and Jaynie recently had their first child, Jessica. Jessica is an absolute joy and we spend time with her every chance we get. We live in different cities but are all very close. We get together for most holidays and I make special t-shirts for many of these occasions. The t-shirts have become part of our family tradition and everyone looks forward to the great Christmas t-shirt reveal! I write poems that have each of our names for the t-shirt design and the poems always get a good laugh. Christmas is a special time for us. We celebrate the Feast of the Seven Fishes (an Italian tradition to honor Larry’s mother) and have a huge Christmas Eve feast where we all wear our t-shirts to dinner. We wear Italian aprons and hats and spend most of our time in the kitchen cooking and laughing. On Christmas morning, we all go to church together then spend the day opening gifts, visiting with family and friends, and playing games. We love doing puzzles and we have a new Christmas puzzle every year. Fourth of July has become another big family occasion since it gives us a chance to make our traditional t-shirts and see each other during the summer! We are so excited to meet our child and continue all of our traditions!

How We Met

We met many years ago through work. We always seemed to have a connection and always made each other laugh. As time passed, we would run into each other at church on major holidays and always be happy to see each other. After service on Ash Wednesday, we realized we were both working downtown. Larry asked me to lunch. That lunch turned into an invitation to the local Broadway production of Cats (we both love musicals!). From there, we became very good friends. We talked all of the time and met for dinner many nights a week. Before we knew it, we had grown our friendship of many years into the most wonderful relationship. One day, after attending church, our priest stopped us and asked, “Are you two making this official?” We couldn’t do anything but laugh. Our priest responded, “We all have been praying and waiting for this moment because we all saw it so clearly. We just were wondering how long it would take the two of you to figure out it was meant to be.” We couldn’t agree more.

Our Home

We have a large, two-story brick home in a tree-lined, family-friendly neighborhood. We love where we live and it is a great neighborhood for walking. Larry and I love to spend our time walking. Anytime we can go outside to walk, we do. Our home is super comfy and has made a wonderful gathering space for our family events. During the holidays, all the family stays with us and we cook for days. Larry is an amazing cook and you can find him in the kitchen almost any time! He spends a lot of time planning the menus for our gatherings and gets so excited to share his cooking talents with everyone. While I do some of the cooking, I am mainly in charge of decorating. Larry loves how I make the house so festive and I love how he provides most of the meals! It is perfect match.

My Career and Daycare Plans

I have a great job with TONS of flexibility. I am in-house counsel for a healthcare organization. The work is super rewarding and allows me to work at home full time. I have been very blessed in my career to have the benefit of doing work I love and a team that supports my life outside of work. It really is the best of both worlds.

Since I work from home full time and Larry is retired, your child will stay at home with us for the first year. After, we would like to explore part time options for Montessori programs to begin early learning and to find play groups. We have so many options in our neighborhood for small, in-home play groups and shared learning groups. Ultimately, we want your child to have a great start to socialization and learning.

On a Typical 3-Day Weekend

We love to explore. We love the outdoors and are out walking whenever we have free time. We love to hike or go for a bike ride and there are so many options that are within a few short miles from our home. We have the greenway which is a great option for getting out and seeing nature. We also love to golf and spend many days at the driving range hitting balls and just enjoying being outside. We have family nearby and love to get in the car and go for a visit. They live in Virginia and recently had their first baby. She has been such a joy and we cherish every moment we get to spend with her. We talk about how exciting it will be to have our new baby and how we all look forward to watching them grow up together.

Our Last Vacation

Larry, and I recently visited Scotland. It was our last trip before the pandemic. We have been very fortunate and have been able to travel a great part of the United States and Europe. We both love to travel and think there is no better education than immersing yourself in a culture, seeing how others experience life. Our trip to Scotland was one of our best trips. We spent the majority of our time in historic Edinburgh exploring the historic parts of the city. We toured the underground tunnels and took a historic tour to learn how people lived in the early times of Edinburgh. We visited several castles and took a tour through the highlands. We also spent a day touring St. Andrews fairway, the home of golf, and the old town of St. Andrews. We spent a good bit of time reading about the history of Scotland before our trip and had an amazing time getting to see all of the history come alive as we explored the old cities and countryside. His youngest son, Robert, lives with his wife and daughter in Virginia. We have been able to drive there and experience some of the outdoor historic sites in Jamestown and Williamsburg. We have been grateful to have safe outdoor options to continue to explore while keeping safe during the pandemic.

How a Child will Enrich our Lives

We can’t wait to watch your child explore this world. I have always wanted to be a mother and know that my path has led me to this process so I can find the child that is meant to be my child. Larry is already an amazing father and we talk about how amazing it will be to share this journey together. We look forward to fostering a love of the outdoors and nature in a child. We look forward to fostering their sense of love for others and being part of a community. We look forward to teaching them wonderful things such as drawing and crafts. Larry was a golf and baseball coach and he talks about teaching them the love of sports! As much as we know a child will enrich our lives, we both can’t wait to enrich a child’s life and give them love and a future.

Faith in our Lives

We were very active in our last home church in Tennessee. I taught Sunday school to a special-needs child, was on the church advisory council, and was a Eucharistic minister. Larry was on the finance ministry and a Eucharistic minister to the sick. Since moving to North Carolina, we have been in regular attendance (including virtually) and have found new avenues to volunteer to continue to bless others. As we explore being new parents, we will continue to have church as a part of our lives. I look forward to finding activities that will foster your child’s love of God and sense of being in a church community.

Hobbies

When I am not with family, I have a wonderful group of supportive women with whom I spend time doing volunteer work, celebrating milestones, and generally getting together for women’s dinners and fun events. Outside of my volunteer work, I love to do yoga, walk, golf, hike, bicycle, and travel. While we have moved to virtual meetings, I look forward to when we can be together in -person.

Larry loves to golf, walk, and travel but hasn’t taken to yoga! On rainy nights, we love to do puzzles or play board games. Larry and I also love the theater. Our favorites are musicals!

What We will Teach Your Child

We are true believers of living the life you are meant to live. We think each person comes into this world with something unique and special to offer. We want to raise your child to tap into his/her own gifts and help him/her grow those gifts to the fullest potential. We also want your child to know how special he or she is and that they can do anything they can dream of doing. We believe that how we talk to children shapes who they become. Having someone believe in a child is a powerful thing. We want your child to have the security knowing how much they are loved and supported. We know having this positive encouragement will translate into their ability to move confidently through the world, living his/her best life.

Larry is an amazing father and I can see how his parenting style has helped shape his boys into positive and confident men. While they are each different, they both move through the world with a sense of knowing who they are, having a strong foundation on which to build their lives.

We can’t wait to use our individual perspectives to raise our child together and give him/her everything they need to live life to the fullest.

What We will Tell Your Child about You

We will tell your child that you gave us the greatest gift we could have ever received. Because of you, they have life. We will tell them that you were chosen by God to give them life and to bring them into this world. Together, we are all their family and the two of us are their mother – the one who gave them life and who loved and nurtured them in the womb and the one who raises them and nurtures them as they grow into the person they are meant to be. Both of their mothers pray for them and we will pray for you and thank you for bringing us all together because without you, none of this would be possible.

In addition, we would like to know more about you so we can pass along information. Does your child have your eyes? Do they share your artistic/creative/kind-hearted qualities? These are the things we would like to remind your child about. “You are the best part of her and you share her gift of__________.”

When We Hold Your Child, These will be our Thoughts

Thank you for making our dreams come true. Thank you for picking us. Thank you for trusting us to provide the BEST life for your child. Thank you for making the choice to give life. Thank you for being selfless. Every time we look at your child, we will think of the mother that was able to bring life into the world when we were not and think of the life we are able to give to them that she could not. I know that together, each of us, has a very important role in this child’s life and that this will always be our child together, all of us.
