From Us to You

There are not enough words to fully express the gratitude we have for you and for your considering adoption.  Should you choose us to raise your child, your courage and bravery to even consider us is something we will never take for granted and we will share it with your baby throughout his or her life as one of the first acts of love they received. Selfless love. For years, Melody worked with women who were facing unplanned pregnancies and sat beside them, cried with them, and supported them through the process. We believe that this decision is one of the most selfless decisions a person can make and we can’t thank you enough knowing that your decision will allow us to fulfill our deepest desire to start a family of our own.

We want you to know what a loving environment your baby will grow up in and around. Our home is filled with love, laughter, and lots of fun. We are excited to show your baby the things we are passionate about, but also allow him or her to decide what they are passionate about and support that 100%. We love to be silly, sing, bake, cook, play games, go for walks and hikes with our dogs, explore new places, go to the beach and search for sand dollars and shells, hang out with our friends and family, watch sports, and go fishing and camping, and we can’t wait to do these things with your baby.

Most importantly we want to raise your baby to know where he or she came from and that because of your decision, many lives will be greatly impacted for years to come. The amount of support we have from our family and friends is so incredible. They could not be more excited about us adopting and raising a child. We will show your baby unconditional love just as God shows us, and will teach him or her about this love from God that we are blessed to feel and know.

Thank you for taking a peek at our life and for considering us to raise and love your baby. We have dreamed of being parents for 19 years and feel blessed to be so close to making that dream come true. We pray daily for you and your baby and have asked God to fill your lives with hope, joy and love for many years to come.

With love,
Brad and Melody

About Brad

Brad is one of the most caring and loving husbands I have ever known anyone to have. He is a very involved and present husband and attentive to my needs. He is constantly telling me how much he loves me and how beautiful I am. He also has a great sense of humor and is always making me laugh. Brad is a very hard worker and puts 110% in to everything he does. He is reliable, trustworthy and a great listener. People are drawn to him and feel comfortable coming to him with their thoughts and dilemmas, knowing he will give an honest answer and sound advice.

One of my all-time favorite things to see is how Brad is with children. He has a special relationship with our nieces and nephews and they absolutely adore him. Not only is he comforting and loving, but he also has fun with them. He will roll on the ground and wrestle with our nephews, take all of our nieces and nephews fishing, play ball with them and do camp-outs with them. He loves to teach them how to do things and encourage them in their school work. I have always dreamed about Brad being a father and what that would look like. He will be the kind of father any child would dream of having. Someone who will love them no matter what, who will cry with them, laugh with them, reason with them, play with them and be their number one fan. I am truly blessed to call this man my husband and I can’t wait to raise a child together.

About Melody

Melody is the most compassionate, non-judgmental person I know. She has a heart for the Lord and that translates into all of her relationships, close or not. You may have heard the saying, “always the bridesmaid but never the bride,” well that similar saying could be used to explain Melody’s walk when desiring children. For years I could never understand why God would put such a passion in a person to want children and not let it come to fruition as I have watched in Melody, well not until now. I think that it was always part of His plan as he was preparing her for motherhood in the form of adoption.

Melody has a way with children that I have a hard time putting to words. She is so selfless with them and gives all the love, compassion, and care that anyone could ever muster. When they cry it is no bother; when they make spills, it’s no big deal. When they test her, she digs deeper and finds even more compassion for them. I look forward to the opportunity to be a father, but I know without a doubt that my wife will blow me or anyone out of the water when it comes to parenting. I feel her love on a daily basis and I look forward to the day when she can show that same selfless love to a child of her own.

Our Love Story

We have been a couple for over 21 years and have been happily married since 2003. We went to the same grade school and high school, took a lot of the same classes, and our families were friends, but we didn’t start dating until we were in college. Brad had a crush on Melody for years throughout school, but didn’t have the guts to ask her out. We actually have to credit our mothers for bringing us together as a conversation between the two of them one day led us to our first date. Brad’s mom had told Melody’s mom that Brad had always liked Melody. When Melody’s mom called her later that day, Melody was very interested in this news and asked if we could set up a date. It was on that first date we both knew that we had found our true love.

After eight months of being together, Brad knew he wanted to propose, so on his birthday in November, he bought an engagement ring and proposed on Christmas Eve. We were married in June of 2003 in front of over 250 of our friends and family members. We have been happily married ever since and have grown stronger and closer together than ever through our life’s journey.

We have experienced some of life’s highest highs and some of the lowest lows. We have lost 4 children through miscarriages and tubal pregnancies, which was very difficult for us as we have always wanted to be parents, but we know we will meet our babies again one day up in heaven! We believe that all of the things we have been through together have made us stronger and we cherish each day we have together. We love to have fun together and make each other laugh. We attribute our successful and loving relationship to the great communication and fun we have with each other. We are truly each other’s best friend.

Our Families and Friends

We come from large extended families that are very close and active in each other’s lives. Brad was born and raised in Washington and his extended family is mostly all located within 30-45 minutes from us. Melody was born in California, but moved to Washington when she was a young girl. Many of Melody’s extended family members have moved up to Washington as well.

Brad and his sister, Jen, have a very close relationship. They are two years apart in age but did everything together throughout their childhood. Jen’s daughter, Charlie, is our beautiful, two-year-old niece who brings so much joy to the lives around her and we know she has big things coming her way in her future. Charlie was diagnosed with Downs Syndrome when Jen was pregnant with her and the doctors had encouraged Jen to abort her, but Jen knew she had a special little girl growing inside her and boy, she was right! That little girl has been a huge blessing to all of our lives! She is so sweet and so much fun to be around. Jen and her fiancé, Ryan, are pregnant again and are going to be welcoming another beautiful little girl to the family in the next couple of months. We couldn’t be more excited to meet her!

Brad’s mom, Kelly, has been the glue that holds the extended family together. She loves planning large family gatherings for the holidays and annual family beach trips. Brad’s father is deceased, but his step-father has played a large role in his life. He loves having us all over for BBQs and really enjoys spending time with his granddaughter, Charlie.

Melody has two brothers. Adam is two years younger than she is and loves to tease her like a typical brother does. He has a great sense of humor and can make anyone around him laugh. He has a 14-year-old daughter, Paityn, and a 1-year-old son Parker. We have been very active in Paityn’s life going to her softball games, choir concerts, having her over for sleep overs and taking her to the beach and camping trips and we look forward to doing these things with Parker as he grows up. Adam and his family moved closer to us and now live just a couple of blocks away, which has been convenient and so much fun. Melody’s other brother, Jackson, is 20 and although Melody was not raised with him, they have a special relationship. Jackson is very kind and loves deeply. He is working on his schooling and is passionate about physical fitness, wanting to pursue a career in exercise science.

Melody’s mom, Deborah, lives with us and has been a huge support throughout our lives. She is a fun-loving, soft-hearted woman who will give the shirt off of her back for anyone who needs it. The love she has for her grandchildren is incredible and she is very involved in each of their lives. She is so excited about us adding a little one to our home, to be around for all the firsts, and can’t wait to be called the “grannie nanny” as not only will she be the grandmother, but our live-in nanny as well! Deborah is excited to love and nurture your sweet baby and teach him or her through play. She may be a grandma, but she is a child at heart and loves to play with her grandchildren. She envisions taking your child to the local parks, teaching them about nature and to love the beauty that we are surrounded with. She is also the grandmother who will sing and dance with your child, get down on the ground to play blocks or cars with them, and take them outside to jump in water puddles.

Melody’s dad, Jeff, lives about an hour away, but that doesn’t stop him from coming to visit his kids and grandkids as that brings him so much joy. He loves to have fun, make people laugh and is very tender-hearted. We have a lot of friends and many friends we actually consider family. We are also very close to our church family and know that they are always there for us. We are so grateful for the relationships we have with our friends and family and cherish those relationships as they are very important in our lives and they are all very invested in our adoption journey and can’t wait for us to add a little one to our family!

Our Home and Neighborhood

We live in a family friendly town in the beautiful State of Washington near a wildlife refuge where we love to go and see a wide variety of animals in their natural habitat. We love our town because of its beauty with all of the forestry and parks and how peaceful it is. Our neighborhood is a tight-knit community with many families who are raising young children. We are surrounded by nature trails, parks, and playgrounds within walking distance. When we go on our walks around the neighborhood, we see many families and kids out playing in their yards, riding their bikes, or walking their dogs like we do. We love to support our local children in all the fundraising events they have for sports or Girl Scouts, so we often get knocks on our door with a sweet kiddo asking if we want to buy yet another box of cookies. How could we say no!?

Our house is a two story, four-bedroom home, with an open floor plan which includes a cozy living room where we spend a lot of time by the fireplace making memories with our friends and family watching movies, playing games, and just catching up with each other. We have a quaint fenced backyard that includes a vegetable garden, apple tree, lots of flowers, and room for the dogs and kiddos to run. At night, we also enjoy our outdoor seating area by the fire pit, listening to our outdoor water feature and the neighborhood families having fun all around us.

Our Lifestyle

We both have full-time jobs in the medical field and have the flexibility to work from home as needed or for Melody to cut back to part-time. We have worked hard on our careers to get to the point where we could be financially stable and keep Melody either at home full time to raise our child or at least part-time at home with her mother helping on the days she goes to work.

On weeknights we like to enjoy our backyard, eating dinner and listening to our water feature while discussing how our day was. On the weekends we love to stay busy by making homemade breakfast, taking our dogs for a walk in our beautiful neighborhood, finding new places to hike, and doing our routine errands to get ready for the next week.

We also enjoy meeting up with friends for lunch/dinner dates at some of our favorite waterfront restaurants. During the summer months we enjoy going to our niece’s softball games, going golfing, fishing, and camping. Our faith is very important to us and we are a part of a multi-generational, multi-racial Christian church that we have been attending for the past 16 years. On Sundays we love to go to church and then meet family or friends for lunch afterwards.

Our Pets

Adoption is not new to us in the form of four-legged kiddos as we have two adopted dogs. Gidget, our female dog, is 10 pounds of soft and cuddly cuteness. She has a gentle soul and loves to snuggle. In contrast, our wired haired male dog, Max, is very curious and independent and loves to explore his backyard. He also loves meeting new people and is great with children. These two dogs are best friends and they love to adventure together on our nature walks and they are great with kids.

Racial and Cultural Diversity

Racial and Cultural diversity is something that we are very comfortable with and experience in many areas of our lives. Melody has worked as a nurse for 19 years in a variety of nursing jobs working with patients of all backgrounds. With Brad working in a major medical clinic in our area, he too works with many people who represent many different cultures and ethnicities. Our church is both multi-generational and multi-racial. In the past we have worked with our youth in church and have learned a lot from their various cultures and traditions.

Our extended family is multi-cultural as well and is a mix of American, Hispanic, Native American, Asian, and Pacific Islander cultures. In our 19 years of marriage, we have made many friends together who also come from a variety cultures and ethnic backgrounds. Some of whom are American, Hispanic, African American, and Asian cultures. Some of our greatest memories with them are getting together and learning about their various cultures while we partake in annual cultural events and eat some amazing food. We love to learn about different cultures and can’t wait to teach and experience new cultures with your child one day.

Our Traditions

Holidays are very important to our family. We have multiple traditions during the Christmas season. Every year on the first weekend in December we go to a tree farm and walk the grounds to find the perfect tree to cut and bring home. The tree farms we go to usually have hot cider or cocoa and some farm animals that we get to play with as well. We bring our freshly cut tree home and turn on the Christmas music and start decorating. We often talk about how much fun it will be to take our child with us to the Christmas tree farm, bundle them all up, let them run around, pet the animals, drink the hot cocoa and come home and decorate the tree with all the ornaments all in one little area. We also love going to a place called The Grotto to see the grounds decked out with Christmas lights and listening to the different choirs sing in the cathedral. One of our favorite traditions is to pick up our niece, get in our car and stop for hot chocolate, then drive around to different neighborhoods to see all of the decorated homes and sing to all the classic Christmas songs. We can’t wait to do this with a full car of kiddos with our nieces, nephews and your child in the coming years.

Thanksgiving is another big holiday in our home. We love to cook and bake, so this holiday is perfect for that. Melody bakes her homemade pies from scratch with her family secret pie crust recipe and Brad cooks his famous stuffing and turkey. We gather at Melody’s cousin’s home who lives just a couple of houses down the road. We all eat, then play games and get a newspaper with all the black Friday ads so we can talk about what kind of deals look the best.

Another fun tradition is our annual Labor Day friends and family camping trip. There are about 30 of us that gather together at the most beautiful campground near Mount Adams where we enjoy playing in the creek, whiffle ball games, berry picking, and having s’mores by the fire while star-gazing. One fun thing we do for the kiddos is hide a bunch of toys, sprinkle glitter trails that lead to the toys and wait until it is dark to take them around with flashlights so they can see the fairy dust (aka glitter trails) that leads them to their presents. The kids absolutely love this and look forward to it each year. We can’t wait to bring your little one along so he or she can play with all the cousins and friends and experience the fun of camping that all the kiddos love!

Our Vacations and Leisure Time

We love the beach! Beach trips are a must in our lives. We aren’t picky when it comes to which beach we go to; we just love everything about the beach. Of course, some of the most beautiful beaches we have ever seen were found in Maui, Hawaii. We have been there a couple times now, and we hope to get there every few years if possible.

When we can’t get to Maui, we love to go to our local beaches here in Washington and Oregon. There are some really beautiful spots out there and we especially like to go during the off season when the crowds have died down. We can’t wait to take your child to the beach, build sandcastles in the sand, and frolic in the waves.

We also love going to a river that is about a 5-hour drive from our house. It has more of a dry, desert-like feel to it, and is very peaceful. It is in a small town where we go bike riding along the river, hike at the near-by hiking trails, and sit outside on the deck watching all the deer that graze in the yard. We would love to hook up a little trailer to one of our bikes and take your child bike riding with us throughout the nature paths!

Another highlight for us is our staycations. There is so much to do locally. If you think about it, so much time is spent on traveling and seeing what is out there, but many people travel to our own state for their vacations, so we like to stay local and try some new stuff too. We have been known to go to a big city not too far away and stay a night there while checking out some of the local culture. In our leisure time we also like to stay home and work on our home and yard. We have been here for 3 years now and have really enjoyed developing our yard into the dream that we had for it. Planting flowers, laying bark dust, and putting up some decorative lights, are just a few things we have spent time doing. As with everyone we also like our downtime and rest.

When the need for rest is there, we love to have pizza and movie nights. We also like having friends over and playing games together. We would be remiss if we didn’t mention our passion for football. We love to watch our collegiate and professional teams. We seem to be on the same page when it comes to the collegiate level, too bad we can’t get on the same page when it comes to the pros! It makes for a fun football season when we can root for each of our teams and have a friendly competition. We have already purchased some onesies for our child with each of our favorite football teams, and Melody’s plan is to cut them in half and sew one side of each team to the other to create our own little onesie for our mini cheering buddy.

Our Careers

The medical field ended up being the choice for both of us in the end; Melody just found it faster than Brad did. Melody knew as a little girl that she wanted to be a nurse. She went to college right out of high school and graduated with her Bachelors of Science degree in Nursing. Melody has been a Registered Nurse for 19 years now. Her journey has taken her into many specialties, including Labor and Delivery, Medical/Surgical, Home Health, and worked as the Director of Nursing for a Women’s Clinic. Melody is currently working as the Clinic Lead RN in internal medicine at a major multi-location medical clinic in our area. Melody has always had a passion for caring for others and feels grateful that she gets to do this through her career.

Brad’s journey to the medical field was a slower one. After receiving wonderful care in a hospital just four years ago, he realized his passion was to be in the medical field so that he could fulfill his desire of helping others in their greatest time of need. Between watching Melody in the field and having nurses help him with his own care, he realized that direct patient care wasn’t his niche, so he went to school for an Associate’s Degree in Health Information Management and has his Registered Health Information Technology (RHIT) credential. He is currently the Manager of Registration for the same clinic Melody works at. He loves to help his staff obtain their goals and is passionate about teaching them the principles of great patient care and customer service.

Our Hobbies

One hobby that we have really harnessed this year is a love for the outdoors, walking and hiking. There is just something about being out in God’s creation while bettering our own health in the process. We love to take our dogs with us and explore new places.

Brad loves to fish. Getting up early has never been a problem for him, and being out in the still of the early morning while the water is like glass is quite peaceful. If he can get Melody to join him from time to time, that makes it that much sweeter. Brad often dreams of what it will be like one day to teach his little boy or little girl how to fish. Getting up in the morning together, stopping for some hot cocoa and breakfast, and then heading to the local lake or river to catch some fish together. Brad also likes to golf. He golfed for four years in high school and developed his passion for it there. Though there are many that may be better, he enjoys the competition with himself to try and better his score from the last time. He has been teaching Melody how to golf and she is picking it up pretty quickly.

For Melody, her all-time favorite hobby is photography. Melody has a professional camera and loves to go out in nature to get some incredible shots of the beauty that surrounds us here in Washington. Melody’s favorite photos to take are close up shots of flowers, but she also loves doing maternity photo shoots, senior pictures, and newborn photos. She can’t wait to take some newborn photos of your child and has so many ideas already planned for that! Another hobby Melody enjoys is crafting. She is pretty creative and loves to make homemade gifts for family and friends for Christmas. She loves creating handmade items and watching the joy on the faces of those who receive them. Last but not least, Melody loves anything and everything about music. She loves singing, playing piano, and listening to a pretty wide variety of music. Melody dreams of being able to sing to your child and teach them the beauty of music, and maybe how to play piano with her one day!

Why We're Choosing to Adopt

We absolutely love children and know, without a doubt, we are meant to be parents. Throughout our marriage we have discussed how we were going to grow our family. We have prayed for God to guide us in our journey to become parents and he put adoption in our hearts many years ago. But he also allowed us to become pregnant four times and each of those pregnancies ended in either miscarriage or tubal pregnancies. Through each of our losses, he led us back to adoption and we believe he has been paving the way to adoption this whole time. While going through our own journey, we have had many close friends who have gone through the adoption process and have shared their stories with us. We strongly believe that between our own story unfolding, hearing and being a part of the adoption stories of our friends, and asking for God to guide us in our path to becoming parents, that adoption is our calling. We feel blessed to be able to bring a child into our home to pour our unconditional love on and complete our family.

Messages from our Family and Friends

Brad and Melody have made such a positive impact on the lives they have touched. Our two girls are always excited to see them and the joy that radiates from them when spending time with our children is obvious. Their home is one that values love and patience above all else. The baby that becomes part of this family will be loved and blessed beyond measure.  -Felicia (friend)

Brad and Melody are some of the best people on the planet. They have patiently waited to become parents, and I can imagine the joy and celebration that will take place over the life of that child. They are people with strong faith and good moral character, so full of love ready to be shared with the child and birth parents. Their entire family and community are equipped to support them in this journey. Truly, they are a deserving and wise choice! -Crystal (friend)

I have known Brad and Melody for over 10 years and cannot think of a couple better suited to raise your child. They see the best in people and have a genuine love for others. They are the kind of people that make a positive impact and you just want to have their influence in your life! Melody has such a heart for people. She absolutely exudes love and trust – it comes out of her pores. One conversation with her and you instantly love her. Brad has so much patience and is so kind and caring. You know that you can count on him to lift you up when you are struggling and cheer you on when you are succeeding. He’s smart and strong as well, modeling the best parts of being a good man in today’s crazy world. They are amazing with kids. They have a way of teaching that is remarkable. There is no shaming or condemning, it is just teaching right and wrong without guilt or criticism. Brad and Melody will raise a child who believes they can do anything, because that’s what they will instilled in that child. A very blessed child indeed will be the one raised by Brad and Melody. – Bryndl (friend)

I know Melody on a personal and professional level. She is an amazing supervisor and a great friend. She’s open and understanding. She’s easy to talk to and a great listener. She’s a wonderful shoulder to confide and cry on. She has comforting words and can make me laugh. As a mother myself, I know Melody will be the best mom to the lucky child that will get to call her “mom.” -Jen (Melody’s friend)

Brad and Melody are caring and compassionate and have so much love to give. They are very patient and nurturing and always engage with the children in the family. Most importantly, they both have a great sense of humor which you must have with kids. Your child would be joining a family with cousins to welcome them and play with and an extended family to love them. -Michele (family)

Brad and Melody are two exceptional people who were meant to be parents. They are anxiously awaiting the day they can welcome their child into their loving arms and complete their family. They have strong faith, amazing attitudes and are fun! A great recipe for all the love and support a child can ever hope for. In addition, both of them have been through hardships together. They understand life isn’t easy (the road to parenthood is certainly a great example of that). But they have a rock-solid relationship and more love for each other now than they did the day they married. They will weather any storm and welcome any challenge that their new child brings. Together, as a family, they can handle anything and will come out of any challenge better for it. This couple is truly one of a kind and the day that your child arrives, countless prayers will be answered. -Ember (friend)

Brad and Melody are some of the most caring and giving people I know. They have personally invested in my children and also in many of the children in our church. They have huge hearts and are very faithful and joyful. Their biggest dream ever has been to be parents. They would be the most amazing parents with an incredible amount of love to give. -Melanie (friend)

Brad and Melody are two of the best people I know, and if you allow them to raise your child, he or she could not be in better hands. I have worked with children my entire life as a teacher and coach, and I’ve seen so many kids that don’t have good home lives. Brad and Melody would be such a blessing to any child, and would give them a loving and fun family to grow up in. Your child would be raised in a Christian home by people who truly love God. They both have extended families that love to get together and have fun, and to support each other during hard times. Your child would have a lot of cousins, aunts, uncles, and grandparents to grow up with. They all get together for birthdays, holidays and many other occasions. With this couple as your child’s parents, they would be loved, protected, raised with morals and values, and would have a large support system and family. -Anita (family)

If you are looking for parents who are the most faithful, loving, patient and kindest people to raise your child, look no further than Brad and Melody. We have observed how deeply they love each other and how they especially enjoy being around children and loving on children. We have seen Brad play Santa Claus and how even the shyest and most skittish children climb up on him to get his attention. The joy on his face is so transparent at the fact he is able to bring happiness to them. Melody always gravitates towards children and they can’t wait to be near her also. It is like they seem to know her loving heart and want to be surrounded by that unconditional love. It is something to see. The two of them always have ready smiles and a calming sense about them when they enter a room. When they greet anyone, it is like you are the only one in the room. I do not know two more deserving human beings to be parents to your child. -Debbie (family)
