From Us to You

Hello,

It takes such an amazing act of love and selflessness for you to consider making such a brave decision.  Above all else, know that you are in our thoughts and prayers! We are Greg and Lauren and we became a family of four through the gift of adoption. Our two AMAZING sons are Wesley and Camden. They both know their adoption stories and their birth families are in our lives. We are all excited to grow into a family of five and will welcome you and your baby with loving and accepting arms.

We want you to know how incredibly loved your child will be.  Their days will be filled with all the love in the world, laughter, and two big brothers that will spoil them and truly will believe the world revolves around them!  They will have the opportunity to grow up to be whomever they want to be in life, whether it’s a doctor, teacher, musician, or even a farmer like Greg.  Most importantly, we want you to be a part of it, however much you are comfortable being. We share a close relationship with Wesley’s birth mom, and share pictures and updates with Camden’s birth parents as much as possible. We will respect what feels right and works best for you like we have done with Wesley’s and Camden’s birth families.

As a couple, we have been together for 12 years and married for 11. Even though we are polar opposites, we both quickly knew we were meant to be together! Greg was raised in the country, while Lauren was raised in the city. Greg can be quiet and shy, while Lauren can be more outgoing and easygoing. For all of our differences, we share the same core values. Some of those values include a strong love of our family, faith, and dreams of building a future and family. Wesley just turned 8 years old and is the goofiest and sweetest second grader you’ll ever meet.  He is always ready to tell us a corny joke to make us laugh, and he loves to cuddle on the couch with Lauren. Camden is almost 4 and has the orneriest grin and most contagious giggle. He loves to get in tickle fights, and his cackle will ring throughout the house! He also knows when he is doing something he’s not supposed to, and you can see that twinkle in his eye and that smirk to see if he can get away with it! Wesley is excited to be a big brother again and Camden can’t wait to be promoted to big brother. They are excited to welcome their new sibling, whether it’s a little sister to protect or another brother to rough house with!

In our free time, we enjoy spending time together as a family. We live on a 162-acre farm surrounded by pastures and crop ground. Have you ever visited a farm? There is so much room for kids to grow, learn, and explore! We like to have fun outdoors, whether we’re jumping on the trampoline, riding four-wheelers to check cattle, swimming during the summer, fishing, playing on our playset that Greg built, practicing baseball with Wesley, or having a bonfire with friends. We also treasure the cozy moments of snuggling up on the couch together to read a book.

Greg is a full-time farmer, farming 1400 acres of row crop ground.  Along with that, we raise 175 Black Angus cows as a family.  Lauren is a full-time babysitter as well as a stay-at-home mom to Camden. We live in a small, rural community where everyone knows your name and everyone cares about each other.  When something bad happens, the whole community bands together to help. When good things happen, we come together to celebrate. We are lucky enough to live a mile down the road from Greg’s parents and a short 5-minute drive from Lauren’s parents, which means your baby will have both sets of grandparents close by!  We are extremely close to them and are so thankful for all they do for us and the boys. The boys love baking cookies with Lauren’s parents on the holidays and playing board games with them. They also love going up to Gregs’ parents to be spoiled with hamburgers and milkshakes and playing outdoors on their farm. We both come from large extended families so there will never be a shortage of love to go around! Greg’s family is spread out all over the country and is HUGE, while Lauren’s is mainly in state and just a few hours drive away. We have friends we consider family as well; some that we have been friends with our whole lives! They all have children as well, so there is an abundance of kids around all the time.

Thank you for letting us share about ourselves and our lives. We hope that our profile gives you a chance to get to know us and gives you a better idea of what life would be like if you decide on our family. You are the only person who knows the best path for you and for your baby. We can’t wait to see what your future holds!

Thinking of you,
Greg and Lauren

Why We Are Choosing to Adopt

Lauren was diagnosed with two forms of Lupus two months after we were married.  We tried many different medications for many years to even attempt for her to be able to become pregnant.  Every time we tried, she would become very sick.  Her doctors told us that having biological children just wasn’t in the cards for us.  While her Lupus is under control now with the help of medication, we cannot have children. That led us to the decision to adopt.  We see it as a huge blessing in a way. Without Lupus, we wouldn’t have Wesley and Camden.  We chose adoption because it was the healthiest way for us to grow our family, and it has been the most beautiful experience we could have ever imagined!

About Lauren, by Greg

Lauren is such a good mommy to the boys as well as an amazing wife to me.  She always makes sure she is there for all of our kids’ school activities, sports games, and doctor appointments. She does an awesome job taking care of the house and the boys while I’m out working on the farm.  She is a great help taking care of the cows as well as helping out with any machinery related things I may need.  I have been so proud of her for taking care of herself and taking her health into her own hands; over the last 3 years she has lost 110 pounds!  She is the most beautiful woman in the world and I love her so much!

About Greg, by Lauren

Greg is the happily ever after I never knew I needed. He is the best daddy to our boys, teaching them the life skills they need to know and how to be good men. He is always willing to help a friend, a family member, or anyone in need. He is always putting others before himself. He does everything he can to make sure Wesley, Camden, and I have the best life possible and are spoiled rotten. He is so incredibly hard-working, making sure that everything on the farm is well taken care of. Throughout all of my Lupus struggles, he has been by my side supporting me through all my ups and downs. I know that whatever life throws at us, we will make it through stronger as long as we have each other. I love him with all of my heart, and all of my best memories have him in them.

Our Relationship with Our Sons' Birth Families

When we entered our adoption journeys, we went into it with no expectations on how our relationships with their birth families would go. We want everyone involved to be comfortable with the relationship and the level of contact that we all share for the sake of our children. We are extremely close with Wesley’s Birth Mom. We talk on the phone multiple times a week, send pictures back and forth, and we consider her part of the family. We share a bond that a lot of people don’t understand and we instantly clicked when we met. Camden’s Birth Parents have different contact preferences, which we respect just as much. We share pictures and updates with Camden’s Birth Parents and try to stay in contact with them as much as we can.  It has been truly amazing to see how Wesley’s Birth Mom has bonded with Camden and how Camden’s Birth Parents have bonded with Wesley!

Lifestyle

We are pretty down to earth people.  Our mornings consist of getting Wesley ready for school and Lauren getting ready for the children she babysits for in our home. She also cooks, cleans, does the housework, and holds down the fort while Greg is busy on the farm during the day. When Wesley gets home, we help him with his homework while also playing with Camden. Lauren’s babysitting kids leave shortly after Wesley gets home, and she gets in her daily workout.  After homework and workouts, Greg gets home for the day. We eat supper together as a family, have some playtime, do Wesley’s daily reading, take showers, and tuck the kids in all in time for a new day to start. Weekends are when we have FUN! We enjoy having friends over or going to friends’ houses to have a bonfire.  All of our kids are friends, so they all enjoy playing together.  Sometimes we even go to Lauren’s grandma’s house to visit her and play a game of cards.

How We Met

We met in 2008 through our families.  When Lauren’s grandpa died, Greg and his dad were farming his land.  Lauren’s family had to take care of arranging the farm operation and how things would go with his passing, and that is how we met. Lauren’s grandpa had a soft spot for Greg, and so we always say he was behind it all the way up in heaven. After 5 months of dating we got engaged and were married in 2009.  We are complete and polar opposites and yet our personalities mesh so well together. Greg is quiet, calm, and it takes a bit of time to get to know him. Lauren, on the other hand, is loud and outgoing. We both have the same sense of humor and values which is why we get along so well. We work so well as a team getting through everything life throws at us, and we are so grateful life brought us together!

From Lauren: When I first saw Greg, I was attracted to his blue eyes and his crooked smile.  I have always been a sucker for blue eyes! Greg had just cleaned out a grain bin the day we met and was all dirty, but I could clearly see his smile and his eyes, and that’s what I remember to this day! Greg also has a goofy sense of humor that can always put you at ease.

From Greg: What first attracted me to Lauren was her smile and long, blond hair. She was so easy to talk to and had a good sense of humor. It was always easy to spend time with her. When we first got together, I would drive an hour every weekend just to see her!

Home & Neighborhood

We live on a 162 acre farm down a quiet, country gravel road filled with pastures and farmland.  Our pasture is filled with the cattle we raise, while our crop ground has a rotation of corn and soybeans grown on it.  We have a huge yard that has a playset that Greg built for the boys to play on, a trampoline, and a swimming pool during the summer where we enjoy spending our days in the sun! Our closest neighbors are a mile down the road and happen to be Greg’s parents! It is so peaceful out here, the only noise you hear is a far-off train whistle, our dog occasionally barking, or our cows mooing!

Our Pets

We have four pets in our home; three cats and a dog. Our three cats are named Smokey, Bandit, and Tippy. Smokey is our oldest cat and is our fat lap cat. Bandit is the true definition of a “middle child” and is a long haired calico. She likes pets but in the next minute can be running around the house crazy chasing a toy. Tippy is a tortoiseshell calico and was born with three legs. She is extremely shy so you are lucky if you can find her most days! Jax, our dog, is a mix of red and white border collie and mutt.  He is amazing with the boys and thinks he is a guard/cattle dog, when in all reality all he wants to do is sun himself on the porch. He knows no stranger and loves a good belly rub!

Our Families & Friends

We are very lucky to have close relationships with our families. Greg’s parents live a mile up the road from us! Greg has one sister and she and her husband have three girls aged 13, 11, and 7. All of our nieces are excited for another cousin  Lauren’s parents live a short drive into town from us. She has one brother who is unmarried but is the most doting uncle to Wesley and Camden, as we know he will be to another little one. Along with our families, we both have a close-knit group of friends. Greg has been friends with the same group of guys since high school, and we enjoy getting together with them on the weekends. Lauren has been friends with the same group of girls since she was 5 years old, and the boys even refer to them as their aunts! We are so blessed to have friends that we can even consider family.

Traditions

Christmas in our house has to be one of our biggest traditions we have! Our yard and house get fully decked out in lights and decorations. We go to several local light displays around our area and enjoy the season. When Christmas Eve rolls around, we open presents with Greg’s family, have a huge Christmas dinner, and attend mass as a family. On Christmas morning, we wake up as a family of 4 and open our presents from Santa! After that we head to Lauren’s parents’ house for Christmas morning breakfast and presents with them, followed by a huge Christmas lunch. Some years we also go to Lauren’s aunt’s house and have a Christmas dinner there!

Our Faith

Greg was born, baptized, and confirmed into the Catholic church. Lauren’s dad was a church organist for many years, so she grew up exposed to many different denominations of the Christian faith. She has never found one that really fit until she met Greg. After we were married, Lauren was baptized and confirmed into the Catholic church. We attend mass every weekend, and are very active in the church, participating in activities such as our fall festival, summer picnic, and other volunteer work. Wesley attends our local Catholic school as well. We truly believe with God, all things are possible.

Our Personalities

Lauren is very outgoing and confident. She can easily make friends and knows how to talk to people she doesn’t know. She has a silly sense of humor and knows how to laugh at herself without being mean to herself. She is very caring and thinks of others before herself. Greg is very quiet. He can be shy but opens up once you get to know him. He also has a goofy sense of humor. He is also very caring, putting other before himself. He is a very optimistic person. Even when things are bad, he can always see the good in every situation.

Careers

Greg is a farmer, raising corn and soybeans. He farms around 1,400 acres of owned and rented ground. Along with crop ground, we raise cattle. We own around 175 Black Angus cows. He is a 4th generation farmer and learned from his dad. Greg is so proud of what he does, you could definitely say it is his passion! Along with being a stay-at-home mom for Camden, Lauren also babysits full time. She has a one-year-old in her care, with a 7 and 10-year-old part-time. She loves kids, so having other little ones in the home brings her so much joy and definitely keeps her on her toes!

<

Vacations & Leisure Time

We really don’t take huge, long vacations as the farm requires a lot of attention. However, we do enjoy getting away for the occasional long weekend or few days here and there! We enjoy going on float trips a lot, whether it’s camping or renting a house and then taking a raft and floating down the river. We also enjoy taking the kids to amusement parks or zoos. In terms of leisure time, we like going swimming in our backyard or sitting around a bonfire with friends. Even driving around the back country roads can be relaxing after a long day!
