From Us to You

Hello,

We appreciate you taking the time to get to know us. We understand that you are considering so many things at once and like you, our decision to expand our family is made out of love and wanting the best for all involved. You will bring your child into the world and we want to continue to support you by embracing him into our family and keeping him safe and loving him as much as you do.

In a way, we have been ready for this moment for a very long time. Christy is adopted and knows a lot of the questions he will have. We will be sure to honor you and continue raising a strong young man who is proud of his adoption story. While we don’t know all your thoughts and feelings, we can personally appreciate the selflessness that goes into your decision.

We hope what may seem like the hardest thing you ever do will turn into something that you can be proud of and in turn, feel safe and loved too. We will always love you for what you chose to do for your baby.

Two adoring parents, two excited older sisters, and one eager older brother are ready to welcome your baby. We would embrace your child and give him everything he needs to grow into a well-rounded person.

Thank you for considering us,

Christy and Tom (with Camryn, Sydney, and Trevin)

About Us, by Tom

I consider myself very lucky to be married to my best friend. When we first met I was drawn to Christy’s eyes, her smile, and her confidence. We dated for 2 ½ years. Shortly after we got married, we moved to Shanghai, China for my work for 3 years. This allowed us to focus on each other and really helped us grow into a great team with a strong bond. We have lived in Missouri, China, California, and now we will settle here in Colorado for we hope the rest of our lives.

We have been married for 12 years and are still madly in love. We hope to follow in the footsteps of Christy’s parents, who have been together for 51 years and are still making each other laugh.

Our Lifestyle

We are excited to welcome your baby into our active and healthy family. Many of our day to day activities center around having fun together, but we also put importance on the lessons that life teaches us. It leads to building strong character.

A typical day in our life starts with Tom working out in the morning, then making breakfast. We send the girls off to school on their bikes. Tom has flexibility with where he works, so he either heads to his home office or to his physical office in town. Christy spends the mornings with Trevin and takes care of managing the house while he has his naptime. The girls get home from school around the time Trevin wakes up from his nap. We all have a snack and the girls do homework before they go to gymnastics. Trevin will be able to choose a sport of his choice very soon. Right now, we think it might be soccer because he loves to kick the ball around. We encourage active sports, but will never force anything or try to live vicariously through our kids. The main rule for now is if they end up not liking something they try, they can finish the season and then move on to something different.

When school is on break, we like to get out of town. We’ve been taking international trips with our kids since they’ve been infants and plan to keep that tradition alive when everything settles down. We frequently have visitors from all over the world. Because of our travels and where we have lived, we have a network of support that spans from across the street all the way to Kenya and Hong Kong! While on vacation, we like to try family activities we can all enjoy. So far, we have tried fishing, trapeze, snorkeling, zip lining, and skiing.

We are spiritual people who believe in doing good for yourself and others as well as spreading kindness and understanding to our fellow humans. We believe everyone deserves love.

Why We Are Choosing to Adopt

When I (Christy) was a baby, I was found by a nun on the doorstep of an orphanage in Vietnam. I was very sick and nearly died. I am so grateful for my life and all the blessings I have. I want to do right by the people who struggled to save my life by living in a way that brings light to others. I always knew I wanted to adopt children. After our two biological daughters were born, we adopted our amazing son Trevin. We have a great relationship with his birthmom and send pictures and videos to her and communicate with her often.

About Christy

Christy has a very open, casual and positive personality. She makes new folks feel extremely comfortable with her right out of the gates. She cracks us up with her quirky ways. One time she couldn’t remember the word syrup so she called it pancake juice. We all call it that now! She was born to be a mother. She is a natural caretaker. She even has a Master’s Degree in Education. She spent over a decade as a daycare teacher and administrator. Now she is the most amazing stay at home mom. She makes great family rituals for us like Sunday homemade pizza night. She is always looking for ways to help others. She spends countless hours volunteering at our children’s school. I consider myself extremely fortunate to be married to this amazing woman.

About Tom

Tom is the best. He’s nurturing, he’s strong. He’s resourceful, respectful and a gentleman. He’s the best version of what one would imagine a good person would be. I am thankful our children get to experience him as a great father and watch him be an exceptional husband and friend. His work ethic has gotten him further faster than most. It has prompted all kinds of people to ask his advice. It was easy to fall in love with a guy who makes every day thrilling and comfortable all at once. To this day we continue to grow an amazing bond that we hope to model for our kids. Tom makes it a priority to put family first and has the flexibility in his work schedule to do so. He’s both a traditionalist and full of adventure. I found my soulmate.

Our Kids, Camryn, Sydney, and Trevin

Our amazing daughters and fabulous son are ready to welcome your baby into his own place in our hearts and lives. While they have their moments where they bicker, they truly adore each other and get along great. They will read to their new brother, swim with him, push him on the swings, and fight over who gets to feed him!

Camryn (9) is our oldest. She is thoughtful and deep minded. She loves to read to her siblings. She roots for the underdog and is the first to make sure everyone is having a good time and is comfortable. She loves gymnastics and softball. When we moved, she told us she wanted to meet the principal of her new school because she had a list of questions for her. She does not love to comb her hair.

Sydney (8) is outgoing, timid at first, then she explodes onto the scene and makes the most fun out of any situation. She loves gymnastics and soccer. She is the one who always asks us how our days are going. She leaves a trail of destruction behind her as she moves from room to room.

Trevin (2) is curious, energetic, and sweet. He will come and give us a kiss for no reason. He loves a good book, a long snuggle, and Cheezits! He calls Christy mom, not mama, not mommy, just mom. His favorite phrase right now is “Have it have it have it por fa” (our kids are learning Spanish, so that is his version of por favour).

Our Relationship with Trevin's Birthmom

We have worked out a relationship with our birth mom that really suits us all.  Initially we agreed to sending pics every few months and to leave open the possibility of a visit every few years with the understanding that no wants to feel forced.  It has made things very comfortable.  We send the pics faithfully, which inevitably prompts a text convo about how everyone is doing on her end as well so we’ve kept up with each other. She is flourishing and has made great improvements for herself.  She is very respectful and thanks us often for giving him the stability and opportunities she wants him to have.  We are equally as grateful and return the love and respect by honoring her wishes to be kept informed.  It really makes us all feel good about the choices we made for all involved.

Our Families and Friends

Christy’s whole family is so excited we are adopting! Both she and her younger brother were adopted by their parents. Christy was born in Vietnam and her brother was born in Korea. Christy’s brother is the definition of a fun uncle. The kids adore him! He loves to take them to baseball games and museums. He is married and has a son. The kids love it when they all visit. Christy’s parents gave her and her brother a great childhood and are wonderful, very involved grandparents. Her dad loves teaching the kids things like how to use tools, build things, fish, and ride ATVs. Her mom is a great cook and will definitely pass on family recipes. She was an art teacher so she lets the kids dive into an art project like no other, also she has great jokes!

Christy’s favorite memories as a kid were from going on vacation to their family cabin in Montana, near Yellowstone. Now, our own family loves going there. We get to enjoy the local pig races, craft fairs, hiking, fishing, and sleeping under the stars. The smell of pine and sage as we pull up takes Christy right back to her childhood.

Tom is the youngest of three sons. Both of his brothers are married with children. His oldest brother, mom, and step-dad live in Missouri. His middle brother lives in China with his family. We see them when we can, usually at least every year. Tom’s mom and step-dad are awesome grandparents. They love to goof off with the kids, read them stories, do puzzles with them and Grandma knits them beautiful gifts. Tom’s parents were divorced when he was young. His dad died several years ago. Tom’s step-mom lives near our home in Colorado and she comes to visit and play with the kids.

We have a diverse, fun, caring, and amazing group of friends that make up our village! Many of them have been good friends for decades. Our close friend and very devoted babysitter, Liz, moved from California to Colorado when we did because we couldn’t live without each other! Our friends will be there to enrich our kids’ lives with their unique set of values and experiences to show them how wonderful this world can be.

Our Traditions

We love celebrating together as a family. Each year, we ring in the new year with our kids… at 8 PM! For the first day of school, we all go together as a family. Every year for Halloween, the kids get to pick out what costume Tom will wear. Christy always ends up being a spider. Cutting down our own tree is a fun, Christmas family tradition. In between holidays, we enjoy time as a family in the kitchen. From making Ebelskiver (Danish) with Bepa to family fondue night.

Our Home and Neighborhood

Our home is full of energy. We bought it last year knowing we wanted to expand our family. It has plenty of space and sits on an acre of land, built for a busy life. Each room in our home welcomes young energy. We will cook, clean, draw, paint, build and play together. The finished basement has all the games and toys you can dream of. There’s also a craft room, a gym, a ping pong table, a pool table, another bedroom for all the fun guests we have, a mini kitchen so kids can bunker down for future sleepovers, and couches perfect for a game of floor is lava! The second story is the kids’ domain – your child will have his own bedroom. The nursery overlooks the peaceful backyard and towards the mountains complete with some family heirlooms and things to call his own.

Our yard is where all the action happens; there’s a pool to swim in, a play set to swing and climb on, and a trampoline to jump on. Your child will be able to dig in the garden, play corn hole, softball, soccer, and whatever the neighborhood kids bring over to join in on all the fun.

Our community has food trucks, community events like drive in movies, and weekly farmers markets and endless family oriented festivities. We are close enough to the city to have access to all we could ever want, but far enough away to get break from the hustle and bustle of downtown. We also have a nature trail behind the neighborhood good for biking, hiking, and riding horses.

Travel

We love to travel and usually take several trips a year, one being an international trip. Of course COVID has slowed us down this year! We hope to travel again soon and would love to take the kids to the birthplace of their ancestors; Vietnam for the girls and Africa for our son.

Our Promise to You

We will be nurturing, encouraging and will do our best to open doors for your son so he will be able to dream a dream and see it through. We promise to immerse your son in his own culture(s) so he will know as much as possible about himself. As a transracial adoptee, Christy knows the importance of getting to know your own culture. We will teach him the importance of honor, kindness, creativity, nurturing strong family bonds, celebrating differences, being courageous, and being true to himself. We will always speak of you with love and respect. He will always know what a courageous and kind heart you have. We are happy to send you pictures, videos, and communicate with you through texting to share with you his milestones, and to let you know he is happy, safe, and loved. We will always be grateful for your heart and your trust and faith in us. We can’t wait to meet you!
