From Us to You

We truly cannot imagine the decisions and feelings you are facing right now. All we can say is you are already loved and cherished by us. Thank you for choosing life for your sweet baby. Although we do not know where you are at in the process, we want to thank you for reading a little bit about us. We have so much love to give another baby. We have been praying for the next bundle of joy that comes into our home, and we know without a doubt we already love them unconditionally and will provide the best possible life for them.

We have always wanted to be parents and knew we wanted to expand our family through adoption. We adopted Ezekiel, our son, and it was a life changing experience. He truly is the best thing that has happened to us. Our love and compassion for his birth mom is indescribable. We are truly grateful for the gift she gave to us, a son. Ezekiel’s adoption story is his to tell, we love and respect him and his birth mom and want him to be able to tell his story when he’s older.

We feel the same about you and will honor and respect your story. We have so much love to give to your baby and want to continue to expand our family through adoption.

We met at ages 19 and 20. Shae knew we were going to get married the moment we met, and for Heather it took about 6 months of becoming best friends to confirm it. After 6 months of close friendship, we dated for a year, got engaged and then married a year later. We have now been married almost 9 years. We are truly best friends and are so grateful God gave us each other to do life with.

We live super close to our families. Heather’s family lives only 15 minutes down the road, which is something we love. We get together with them all of the time and Ezekiel loves playing with his cousins. Shae’s family is a weekend trip away in Kansas and we love going back and visiting and spending time with his family.

We are so excited to expand our family. Ezekiel talks about his future brother or sister all the time. He has such a sweet and gentle spirit. He cannot wait to be a big brother and even practices changing diapers on his stuffed animals. We know that without a doubt we are ready for the next chapter of our life and are excited to welcome your baby into our home. We look forward to being able to provide all the love we have.

Love,
Shae, Heather and Ezekiel

Why We Are Choosing to Adopt

Before we met, we both knew we wanted to adopt. We individually have always had a heart for adoption. When we started dating, we shared our desire to adopt with each other and it was one of the confirmations that we were meant to be together.

We want to grow our family through adoption. We absolutely love being parents, and we have so much love to give another baby too. Adopting our son, Ezekiel was truly incredible. The amount of love and compassion we have towards you as a birth mom and the unconditional love we have towards our son is indescribable. Adoption truly is where our hearts are. We know Christ adopted us into His family forever. We feel the same way about adopting our son and this next bundle of joy. We always tell Ezekiel that he is our forever love.

About Heather, by Shae

I am so lucky to be able to introduce you to one of the most thoughtful and caring people that I know. Heather is so much more than a wife and momma; she is a truly amazing person that takes caring to a whole new level. Heather is the first to jump up and help a friend and she constantly surprises me with her patience and selflessness towards others.

Heather is such a caring person and has a big soft spot for animals. Her dream would be to live on a large farm with every animal imaginable roaming our backyard. Heather will be the first one braving traffic to save an animal and ensure it gets back to its home or help nurse it back to health. This love and compassion are some of the many reasons I love her!

Heather is a very adventurous person who is always looking for a new challenge. She is very health conscious and decided this year to take on the task of growing a garden. Heather planned out the garden and took the time to show Ezekiel how to tend to the garden to keep everything growing strong. She loves to bake and try new recipes. Heather is quick to jump up for a walk, try new things like zip lining or white water rafting and is always ready for the next adventure.

When we adopted our son, we were able to make Heather’s dream of staying at home with our family a reality. She is an incredibly smart person and a hard worker, and now she gets the opportunity to utilize those traits in raising our family. Heather is a great mom! She isn’t afraid to play in the mud with our active and playful son, while at the same time, show him the caring love that only a mom can. I have no doubt that Heather will continue to love and nourish our growing family!

About Shae, by Heather

It is so hard to put into words how blessed I feel that God gave me Shae as my forever husband. I am continually surprised by Shae’s hard work and dedication to our family. When I first met Shae, he was in the United States Navy. His reasons for wanting to serve our country were selfless; he wanted to serve our nation and protect our freedom.

Shae is an incredibly hard worker and one of the smartest people I know. As he began to transition out of the military, he decided to go to college and work full time, which still amazes me. He did all of this to ensure that he was able to provide for our family and be there in-person during all of the good things, like baseball games or family trips. I know Shae can’t wait for the day he can coach our kids’ sports games, or help in whatever activity they decide to do.

Shae loves to golf with friends when he can. He has to golf for work on occasion and I think he tells me it’s all work, but I secretly know he loves it! Shae is active and enjoys playing basketball, football and baseball.

I always knew that Shae was going to make a great dad, but seeing him in-action makes me fall in love with him over and over again. Ezekiel wants to do everything his daddy is doing. Shae loves restoring old cars with his dad. Shae is working on restoring his Camaro right now and he can’t wait for Ezekiel to be old enough to join him.

One thing you should know about Shae is his kind and gentle spirit. This was the thing that attracted me to Shae the most. He listens well, he responds well to difficult times and he handles tough situations with grace.

How We Met

We first met on a 7-hour road trip from Colorado to Kansas. Heather was attending college in Colorado and lived in the dorms while Shae was in the United States Navy. One of Heather’s college friends went to school with Shae in a small town where everyone knew everyone. Heather’s group of friends decided to go visit this friend’s family in a small town in Kansas. Shae just so happened to be on vacation from the Navy and was planning to visit his family at the same time. He asked if he could ride along with Heather and her friends.

After we met, we hung out constantly for the next week. Shae says he knew he was going to marry Heather from the moment he saw her and talked to her. Shae called and pursued Heather over the phone for the next 6 months, and then we decided to date. We dated for about a year, we got engaged in San Diego, CA where Shae was stationed and then got married in Colorado.

From Heather: Shae’s humor attracted me to him from the very start. He was very witty and we would banter back and forth, and I was super impressed he could keep up with my sarcasm. Secondly, Shae’s gentle and kind spirit was something that truly caused me to fall in love with him. Even at the age of 19, I knew that there was something different about him. He is so patient with me, doesn’t get angry and is one of the most selfless people I know.

From Shae: Heather’s ability to challenge me to be better a man was the first thing that drew me to her. Heather always challenged me to step out of my comfort zone and try a new adventure. I also fell in love with her ability to be witty and keep me on my toes.

Lifestyle

We love getting together with family and friends. We love having people over to our house for dinner or barbeques. The kiddos play together while the parents have some adult conversation over food. While we treasure our time with friends and family, we also enjoy a nice relaxing day of spending time together as a family or curling up under a blanket and watching a movie.

We love doing house projects! We bought a home that is a fixer-upper and we have updated a lot of the things on our own! It’s so fun to do together as a family and create memories while doing it. Ezekiel loves helping out, he uses his toy drill and toy saw to help dad out in the garage and is always close by when dad is working on a project.

Our Faith

Our faith as Christians is a huge part of our lives! When we both met each other, we knew God but were straying away from Him. We truly believe God brought us together to bring us back to Him. Over the last 9 years, our faith has grown; but in the last two years, we would say our faith has become more genuine.

We are in an amazing church and have a great church family. We are so grateful the Holy Spirit lives in us and saved us. We do A.W.A.N.A.S every Wednesday and Heather helps in Zeke’s class. It is a Bible program where they do fun games, have snacks, learn Bible verses and stories and even learn about the continents!

We love praying together as a family every night and we always pray for this new baby that will join our family.

Our Parenting Style

We both love being parents, it’s our favorite thing. We get to be a team and raise sweet babies together. We aren’t perfect, but one thing we do is always apologize when we are wrong. If we were grumpy towards each other we apologize to each other and Ezekiel and say we should’ve been kinder with our words. If we are grumpy with him, we make sure we apologize to him. We do this to make sure he knows we are human too; we make mistakes and no matter what we still love each other.

When Ezekiel disobeys, we show him grace. We do timeout but we also sometimes say we are giving grace and not doing a punishment. We do this to make sure he knows that we all make mistakes and sometimes there are consequences and sometimes there is grace.

We also are super silly, we love doing parenting in a fun way too. We make silly voices, and make a simple task like getting dressed for the day a fun activity. We say we will race him to his room to get dressed, and of course, he usually wins, and then we do a victory dance and then get dressed.

One big thing we do is pray. We pray over Ezekiel and we are already praying over your baby. We pray for their life and we pray they choose to know Jesus one day. We know God loves them too.

Home & Neighborhood

We love the area we live in. Not only are we just minutes away from all the fun activities that the city has to offer, but we’re also just minutes away from the mountains. We have a zoo pass, so we can go to the zoo during the fall and Christmas to see the special setup they have with all the lights! Our home is tucked away in a quiet neighborhood. We have amazing neighbors who are kind and always looking out for one another. We live close to a wildlife refuge that contains multiple ponds, parks and open space. We enjoy hiking and showing Ezekiel new animals he hasn’t seen before!

We absolutely love how our bedrooms are set up in our home. The kids’ bedrooms are right next to one another, which will keep them close together while still having their own spaces. Our kitchen is open to the downstairs living room, which is perfect because our favorite thing to do is have a family dance party. We turn on some music, Disney of course, and dance through the kitchen down to our family room. It’s our favorite!

When we were looking for homes, one thing that made us instantly fall in love with our house was the backyard. We remember walking out to the covered patio and pictured having family barbecues while the kids played games. We pictured all of the apple cider and apple pie we would make from our apple trees. We envisioned our children growing up here and us growing old here. Even though we are in the city we love making our house into as much of a country house as we can. Shae hopes to get chickens one day so we can have fresh eggs. We hope our neighbors are as enthusiastic about the chickens as Shae is!

Our Families & Friends

Family is a HUGE part of our lives. We are lucky to live close to all of our family. Heather’s parents and her sister’s family live 15 minutes from our home. Shae’s parents and his sister’s family live in Kansas, which makes an easy weekend trip. We both grew up around family and are used to having grandparents, aunts, uncles and cousins around to make holidays and everyday life fun! Our families absolutely love getting together and celebrating every little and big thing in life! Something both of our families cannot wait to celebrate is a new addition to our family!

Ezekiel is super close to our parents. He loves spending time with his Papa (Heather’s dad) and Pepaw (Shae’s dad). Ezekiel is definitely a guy’s guy!

Being an auntie and uncle is so much fun! Heather’s sisters’ kiddos are Ezekiel’s age and when they all get together it is beautiful chaos!! Heather and Ezekiel go on play dates to the park or the zoo with Heather’s sister and nieces and nephews at least once a week. Ezekiel loves hanging out with Shae’s sisters’ kids, he looks up to his older cousins and loves to try to do what they do!

We have an amazing group of friends that we are blessed to have in our lives. They are the friends that will be in there at the drop of a hat. They are the same friends that can’t wait to bring us meals and cute outfits once your baby joins our family!

Traditions

Something that you should know about us is we LOVE Christmas. We do not like to broadcast this, but we usually decorate before Thanksgiving! Christmas is such a wonderful time for us to celebrate and make our own traditions. When we decorate for Christmas, we turn on Christmas music, make hot cocoa and start decorating as a family.

Each year, even before Ezekiel was born, we get new PJs for Christmas. It was a tradition started by our families growing up and we are loving the continued tradition with our family. We recently took it a step further and decided to do matching PJs. We open these pajamas on Christmas Eve and wear them that night so we can wake up with them on Christmas morning. Before we open presents we read the Christmas story from the Bible. It is a tradition Heather’s dad started and is one that we continued with our family.

Outside of Christmas we enjoy going on family walks. We feel like it is our time of day where we all relax.  We are able to talk about our day, enjoy the weather and just focus on each other. Our hearts cannot wait to add another little one to these traditions.

How We Spend a Typical Three-Day Weekend

Weekends are our favorite! We love that we get to spend them together. The only thing that makes a weekend better is a three-day weekend. Our favorite thing to do on any weekend is wake up on Saturday morning and make coffee for ourselves and almond milk (he thinks it’s coffee) for Zeke.  We all enjoy our “coffee” while Zeke plays with tractors.

When we have a three-day weekend, we usually spend Saturday getting together with friends or family for dinner or BBQ at our house. On Sunday, we go to church as a family, Shae helps co-lead our Sunday school, and then we go to the main service and enjoy time of worship. After church, Heather’s parents take the grandkids to Starbucks for a treat and then drop them off at home. The three of us spend Sunday night having a living room sleepover where we eat pizza and watch a movie. We get into sleeping bags and sleep down in the living room, one of our favorite things! We can’t wait for your child to join in on this tradition. We then wake up Monday morning with our round two of coffee together and spend the day playing outside, doing house projects or just hanging out together!!

Cultural Diversity

It is very important to us that our children know where they came from. We never want them to feel alone or isolated. We tell Ezekiel almost every day that God made him exactly the way he is supposed to be. We take into consideration the schools our children will go to, to ensure they don’t feel isolated or different. We already have Ezekiel involved in sports that are inclusive and diverse. We also want to ensure our toys and books represent who our kids are. Ezekiel has firefighter toys that look like him and we have books that celebrate diversity too! We love reading before bedtime and these books are part of our nighttime routine.

We know there are things we will never understand that Ezekiel may go through, but we can promise we will never stop trying to ensure he feels accepted. We will continue with this level of understanding for your child and ensure that they never lose sight of their culture and background. We will love them with every ounce of our being and want to ensure they never feel isolated.

Our Promise to You

We truly can’t imagine what you are facing right now. All we can say and do is tell you how much your baby is already loved and cherished. We talk to Ezekiel about his adoption story all of the time and let him know that his story came from a place of love and selflessness. You truly are making the most selfless decision and we are forever grateful.

We promise to love your sweet child. We promise we will be with them for every milestone. We will take care of them and support them. We want to raise them in a Christian home knowing Christ adopted us into His family, just like we adopted them into our forever home. We will never let them forget about how incredible it was that you chose life and how much they are loved by many people.
