From Us to You

First and foremost we want to thank you from the bottom of our hearts. We are so appreciative of you. We can only imagine how hard this decision has to be. We want you to know that we will always be grateful for your sacrifice. Adoption is a mother’s most selfless possible act and the most amazing gift one person could give another.

We will honor you by lavishing your child with love, kindness, patience, and support on every step of their journey through life. We have firsthand experience of being in an adopted family, as Travis is an adoptee himself. Both he and his brother were adopted as infants. They are a very close and open family. We understand the importance for adopted children to know how much their parents loved them to make such a difficult selfless decision. We will always speak kindly of you with the utmost admiration.

We want you to know that we will treat your child as if they were our child by blood. We will support them in whatever career they choose, whether a profession or a trade. We will support them no matter who they decide to love. We will always love them and be there for them no matter what decisions they make in life, just like we will with our two-year-old daughter, Izzy. We want them to be close siblings. We want to empower them to seek out happiness through their unique passions, whatever they find in life that excites them. We will be at every practice, game, show, recital, and event cheering them on and empathizing with every drama.

Let us tell you about our little family. We have been married two years, and we recently purchased our first home together in southern Washington. We both have our master’s degrees and work for a university remotely from our home. Remote work allows us to be home with our daughter, and she has a nanny and friends who come to play with her while we work. We love the arts, nature, and animals. Hannah bakes, plays piano, and creates mixed media artwork. Travis plays guitar, watches sports, and reads novels, poetry, and philosophy. Izzy loves to run around, read books, and play with her toys all while giggling excitedly. Izzy is so excited to be a sister. We always knew we wanted Izzy to have a sibling, and we also knew that we wanted to adopt. Since Travis is adopted, he has always had a strong desire to adopt a child to share that connection with, while Hannah has always wanted to adopt as well.

We are more than happy to send you photos and letters of what is happening in the life of your child and their accomplishments. The fact that they are adopted will be something they will know from the beginning, and we will tell them how their birth parents love them more than anything in the world. We will always be very supportive of them if they want to reach out to you and will try to facilitate this at the appropriate time if all involved are welcoming to meet each other.

We want you to know that we do not take the responsibility that you placed in us lightly. We love and respect you so much for helping us complete our little family. We will raise them in an environment of inclusion, diversity, equity, and love. We will honor your decisions by providing a loving, kind, supportive, nurturing home.

Why We Are Choosing to Adopt

We have always wanted to adopt. Travis is a child of adoption and we would love to give back to the cycle of adoption that has given us so much. Travis has such a great relationship with his adoptive family and would love to be that family to a child. We have a daughter and would love for her to be a big sister and have a sibling. We would love to have the opportunity to love and care for another amazing gift. Since before we met, we each have known we wanted to adopt a child.  We believe it is the most amazing gift that one person could give to another person. Not only for the child but for the parents that adopt that darling child it would complete our little family and mean the world to us.

Adoption in Our Lives

Adoption has been huge in our lives, especially Travis’s life. He is a child of adoption. He was adopted a month after he was born. His brother is also adopted, and his nephew and niece were adopted by his brother. He is very close to his adoptive mother and brother. He is so grateful to his birth mother for making such a selfless sacrifice and he has had amazing experience as a child of adoption. He hopes his experience with adoption will help guide our child in life. Hannah has also always wanted to adopt a child. We both will support and guide the baby throughout their life through the lens of how great adoption is and how loving a sacrifice it is.

About Hannah, by Travis

Hannah is the most patient, caring person I know. She is smart and funny. She has a warmth to her that few do. She is very headstrong and knows where she wants to go in life. Hannah is the best mother. She and Izzy have the most fun making bread, playing outside with bubbles, and playing peekaboo at dinner. Hannah is easily the most talented person I have ever met. Whatever she tries to do she is successful at whether that be drawing, crafts, baking, playing music, or writing poetry. She loves our pets, she loves to garden on our lawn, and knit things for her nieces. Her love of the outdoors has opened up a whole new world to me through us hiking, sightseeing, and camping.  She is my best friend and I am her biggest advocate in all she does.

About Travis, by Hannah

Travis is a grounding force in my life. He supports all of my endeavors and is always there to encourage me in times of adversity. He is gentle-natured and finds enjoyment and magic even in the mundane. As a parent, partner, and employee, he is very goal oriented. He always researches the best options before making decisions, meticulously plans his actions, and then follows his steps to success in whatever he pursues. At work, he is reliable and friendly. Outside of work, he is a calm homebody. He loves to read novels, philosophy, and sports commentary. Every fall we root for his favorite football team. He spoils his pets with love and always makes sure they have the best care. He also enjoys playing guitar and has self-produced several albums. With our daughter, he is ever-patient and playful. Izzy adores their breakfasts, tubby play time, and book reading time together.

Our Lifestyle

Along with our family of three, we have a gentle, older dog and a frisky young cat as well. We both work for a University this allows us to work from home. We both have master’s degrees in educational design, which is writing online textbooks and creating beautiful websites for online classes. We have an amazing nanny who comes and hangs out with our daughter while we work. In our free time, we find family centered activities that we can all enjoy, like visiting museums in the city or going on nature walks. At home, we like to hang out in our garden playing with bubbles and balls. Other times, we read books together and play music. Travis plays guitar and Hannah plays both guitar and piano. We can’t wait to find out if your child has a musical side. A Sunday morning tradition is watching movies or taking a walk around our neighborhood. We are a family who loves to cook together and Hannah and Izzy even know how to bake fresh bread. We believe in equality, loving everyone, and working together to find the best ways to do things as a family. We are firm advocates for education, diversity, and kindness.

Three-Day Weekends

Typically, on a three-day weekend we go somewhere on the first day off. Such as going to the ocean or to the mountains. We always go out to eat on that day as well. The next day we typically go to the city for specialty shopping and to get a few other errands done on this day. We always have dinner together and do something fun like playing outside either before or after the errands. The final day is usually a relaxing day at home playing together outside. We also get any loose chores for the week done during this time, so that we are best prepared for the week.

Home & Neighborhood

We purchased our home in October of 2020 and moved from Northern California. We have found our home and new community to be delightful. Our house is a three-bedroom, one-story house on a fully fenced-in corner lot in a little town in Washington, with a city nearby. We are about five minutes walking distance from a big park that has lots of trees and a playground. We also live about five minutes walking distance from the new elementary school opening this autumn. We love our cozy new home because its open design allows us to relax together while one of us cooks or bakes. We have a large fenced back lawn with laurels and other flowers and shrubs that Hannah just planted this spring. We also planted four trees since moving in. Izzy has a playhouse that she loves to play in with her friends, and we plan to get a swing set and a sandbox this summer. We love to stroll around our neighborhood on Sundays. It is quiet and really green with hills and evergreens surrounding our area. We love our town. We are also close to the mountains and the ocean, and we love going on day trips to visit nature.

Cultural Diversity

We would love to adopt a baby of any culture. We have always taken interest in learning about a variety of cultures, but once we know which culture our child will be, we will focus on learning everything we can about that culture. Because the university where we work is diverse, we are blessed to have numerous friends from a large variety of backgrounds and cultures, and we hope to form such a network locally in our town as well. We will join support groups to assist us in this specific aspect of our adoption journey. We will be continually working and learning on how to support both our children to ensure they are aware of their own cultural identities as well as other cultures. We want to support our child’s culture in any way we can. We invite all cultures into our home and will teach equality and diversity with an emphasis on empathy, kindness, and love.

Our Families & Friends

We have amazing families. On Travis’s side, we have his mother and brother. His mother is his adoptive mom and his brother is adopted too. He is really close to his mother and brother. He calls his mother every night to check on her since she is a retired widow. He has two nieces and one nephew on his side and is really close with them. His mother loves to buy clothes, books, and toys to send Izzy. On Hannah’s side, she has her mother and father, one sister and two brothers. She has six nieces and grew up from a young age taking care of them. Hannah Facetimes her family quite regularly. She is really close to her eldest niece. We have a close relationship with our nanny who comes with her adorable daughter to play with Izzy. We also have a vast collection of friends across the country due to us working for a remote university. We hope to travel to visit our friends and make new local friends as both the pandemic subsides and we engage more with our community.

Our Traditions

We enjoy celebrating each holiday to its fullest. On Easter, we paint eggs and do an egg hunt. On Christmas we put lights up, decorate the tree, and put out cookies for Santa. On Christmas Eve Izzy and Hannah get new pajamas and a movie to watch. We also make sure to fit in a showing of Christmas Story, which is Travis’ favorite movie. We love to celebrate birthdays, even for our cat and dog. Every Saturday we have a special activity as a family. Sometimes it is going on a nature walk or going to a park and sometimes it is going to nurseries to look at flowers. We also eat out each Saturday trying different cuisines. On Sundays, we stay home to spend time together and relax in our garden. Each night we have dinner at the kitchen table with a no-electronics-allowed rule, so we can talk about our days. Travis reads his Bible every day, and Hannah mediates each day and performs yoga to connect with the world around her.
