Dear Expectant Mother/Parents,
Jerry Seinfeld said, “Sometimes the road less traveled is
less traveled for a reason.” Like most difficult decisions in life,
adoption is a road less traveled for good reason – it takes courage on your
part. We are grateful to those, like yourself, who use the adoption
process. We are Mike and Maura, and we
appreciate you taking the time to consider us.
We have been married for five years and are ready to start
a family. Adoption was a natural choice for us. Once we decided to
have a family, we immediately began researching adoption. We both feel
strongly that adoption is a great way to build a family and give our lives
greater purpose. Our adopted child is likely to be the only child we
have, and we can’t wait to share our lives and blessings. As a married
couple, we never try to take ourselves too seriously. We really think
life with a child who likes to goof around and have fun will be a smooth
transition for us.
The best way to exemplify the love we have to give is to
talk about our dogs. They are really the center of our lives without
children. Recently, in fact, they have decided our bed is the best place
for them to sleep (we are not as excited about this as they are).
Whenever possible, we take them on weekend trips out of town or to visit
our families out of state. We cuddle with them on the couch, take them
for walks and runs, and take them to the dog park. Maura is always out
and about buying them toys and yes, even clothes and costumes. Having
dogs throughout our marriage has certainly influenced our decision to raise a
child and helped us realize how much love we have to give.
Our other interests center around our families, travel,
and being outdoors. We both have family out of state, so several times
are year, we head to the Washington, D.C. or Chicago area for family events and
holidays. When not traveling for family, we love to hike, go for bike
rides, and check out new towns and cities. We both feel traveling is a
great way to learn about the world, and intend to share these travel
experiences with your child. It will be a true thrill to give a young
person a way to see the world, different cultures, and beautiful sights.
In Maura as an adoptive mother, your child will have someone
who cares deeply about others. As someone who works with children with
special needs, she is always finding ways to do things better and improve their
lives. Food is one of her most creative sides. She has a limited
diet, but she always finds ways to make delicious meals and baked goods.
As a mother, she would be attentive and always make sure your child is
learning something new. She is not one to give up easily or go the easy
way just because it is convenient.
Mike loves being around kids. As an uncle to my four
nephews, he loves to play and have fun with them, read them a book, or just
spend time doing whatever it is they like to do. As a father, education is
paramount and we are prepared to give your child the
best education possible, both in school and at home. Mike also plans to
raise a child with a strong foundation in the Catholic faith.
Our eyes are open to the challenges of raising a child and
the challenges unique to adoption. Like you, we do not take this decision
lightly. You have our utmost gratitude for what you are doing and our
promise that we will raise your child in as loving and supportive environment as
possible. Thank you for taking the time to learn about us and our
intentions in adopting.
Mike & Maura
