We are excited for you to read our letter and to learn a
little bit about us. We have a daughter, Devin, who was adopted at birth. She’s
currently three years old, but she’ll tell you all about how she’s a big girl.
Our family cannot wait to welcome another child into our family. Devin has told
us that she wants the name to be Mickey if it’s a boy and Minnie if it’s a
girl. All kidding aside, while we have a very fulfilling life and an amazing
family, it feels like something is missing. For us, that something is another
child and sibling for our daughter.
We have always wanted more than one child. We both grew up
with siblings and we knew that was what we wanted for our own family. We began
our marriage with the hope of conceiving a child, but with no success. The
miracle of adoption is not new to us as Dave’s sister was also adopted. So we knew
that adoption would be the way our family would be created. We have been given
the gift of adopting Devin.
We’re excited to share, and continue to create new, family
traditions. We always celebrate Thanksgiving with family, but we also celebrate
“Friendsgiving.” It’s a time for our friends to gather together to give thanks
for each other. It’s a big tradition that keeps on giving, since over the years
our friends have had more and more children.
Sue is a teacher and Dave works out of the house, so we can
spend our summer months at the beach. The beach is our “happy place.” We also
enjoy cheering on the Washington Nationals, and go to games any time we get the
chance. Sometimes we go as a family and sometimes we go with other family
friends. Either way, it’s always a good time. We are both physically active and
we enjoy playing volleyball, softball, and working out.
We have shared with Devin the story of her adoption and how
her Birth Mommy loved her so much and chose us to be her family. We share with
her photos of her being in the hospital when she was born. She sees both of us
in those pictures, and she also sees her Birth Mommy. We communicate with
Devin’s Birth Mommy by sharing photos and updates about Devin’s life through a
private social media account.
Should you choose us to be the family to bless with the gift
of your child, please know that we believe it is very important for a child to
know their story, and your child will always know how much you loved them. We
hope you find that special family and pray that it will be us. Together we
can make our dreams for your child come true. Thank you for reading our letter,
and we hope to hear from you soon.
Dave, Sue, and Devin
