Q: Tell us about your home:
A: I live in a beautiful, contemporary home. I love rich, vibrant colors, so much of the house is in deep avocado, dark chocolate and fuchsia. The entertainment room is perfect as a play room and there's a large, outdoor patio with an outdoor kitchen and living area just off it. There are 3 bathrooms in the main house and a cottage with a bedroom, bathroom and kitchenette. The house has 2 large bedrooms, an open floor plan; the living room, dining room and kitchen all open into each other. We enjoy 365 degrees of incredible mountain views on 3 acres. The side yard is a perfect play yard. My home is serene, with a zen garden, rose garden and koi pond with 46 koi fish. There are several small bridges over a man-made babbling brook. My home is often full of friends; our play dates are always a fun way to spend an afternoon. I enjoy family and friends over for celebratory meals. The house has 3 fireplaces and is lovely in every way. Much of my own art work hangs on the walls; I am a watercolor artist as well as a harpist, so the house at times is filled with music! The kitchen is my dream come true. I love to cook healthy foods and I am a great baker for a special occasions.
Q: When you have a 3-day weekend, what do you like to do?
A: We often go to the local family theme park which is geared towards little ones as my daughter, Adelia, is a very active fun-loving child. We also take trips to see Grama and Grampa or enjoy the local aquarium . We enjoy hiking in the local park reserve. I have a special stroller with shock absorbers so we can hike the lower trails with ease! We are members of a local country club so we often swim there on weekends. We live close to the ocean and live on a mountain so there is plenty of opportunity to get out and enjoy the fresh air. We also do our shopping, groceries and the mall on weekends. We like to travel and have 2 wonderful timeshares in the tropics. I love our adventures and look forward to traveling with 2 little ones! Trips include swimming in the pool hours every day, playing with other children and we swim with the dolphins! The staff just adores children and they spoil them with affection… 3-day weekends can also be a time to catch up with friends and enjoy a picnic
Q: Do you have pets? If so tell us about them?
A: Yes we have 46 Koi fish. Adelia runs out to see them every morning, There were 14 when I moved in and have been repopulating like crazy. They're so much fun with all the different colors and their amazing, delicate fins. They're care ts pretty simple - we just feed them 2 times a week and add water to the pond once a week. These fish seem to love Adelia, are playful and splash around for fun.
Q: What will you teach your children?
A: Years ago I studied parent effectiveness training, and I absolutely love the philosophy. You treat a child with respect and give them options when they are curious. Even before they have language you tell them everything about what they are curious about. I am a brain development expert and understand that a child's brain is hungry for knowledge. When they are little, I will share what I know about art, music, science, and the world, how to enjoy a good story, and to understand nature. We'll learn the sounds in nature, how the animals live, and the names of the butterflies and flowers. I have studied these things, herbal medicine and the essential nature of flowers. I will teach them spiritual values. They will be well loved and guided to understand how to act and behave so they will grow into beautiful human beings. They will grow to be loving and kind as well as intelligent and confident. Recently I have read books on raising emotionally intelligent children, and have deep-dived into helping a child to understand themselves and what they are feeling. Adelia and I made sign language an important part of our early dialogue and will do that when your little one joins our happy home.
Q: Describe your neighborhood
A: I live just above a little mountain village. The public elementary school is considered one of the best in the state and it is 1.2 miles from home. People here are happy and relaxed, and take time to chat with each other. The actual appearance of the neighborhood is a well wooded mountain with largely live oak and other native California trees. I see the hawks soaring through the sky as they love the high elevation, yet the sweet little hummy birds are here just as well. We are on migratory paths, and it was quite a parade of birds this fall, so many new species to learn about. I also love the sky, the stars are incredible here on the top of the mountain. I am hoping to learn the names of the constellations and star gaze with my little ones regularly as they mature to the age of being awake when it's dark :)! Our neighbors to the left have 4 miniature donkeys, 2 goats, a pig and 4 chickens. Everyone else has dogs, and we regularly visit a farm a few miles down the road where many farm animals are.
Q: What will you tell your child about his or her birth mom?
A: I will tell them that they have a mother who loved them and wanted to give them the best possible life. She was loving and thoughtful, and chose for them to live in my home and picked me as the perfect mom to raise them. I will want to learn about her too, so I can share some nice details with them when they are curious. I have been reading books on adoption, and it seems each child will have their own special needs. We will have story books about understanding adoption too. I am so grateful to the mother who picks me and will always appreciate her strength, courage and generosity. I do not for one minute take for grated that she has choices, to choose me and for me to choose back is a miracle from heaven, and she is heaven sent. Somehow this is what my child will know
Q: What kind of education will you provide for your child (public or private)?
A: Both. The local grade school is excellent. There is also a wonderful girls academy which is spiritually based and focussed on building leadership and civic minded ideals. Their philosophy is wonderful. I will find something similar for a little boy, though I have not yet discovered a boys academy here yet. They will also have private lessons if they choose to pursue music or an activity that I am not familiar with. They will be offered tutors if they struggle. They will be well guided and listened to. They will get what is most important… love and wisdom. I've had the luxury of enjoying Adelia at home with me for the first 2 years. She's now attending a playschool in a country church. It's wonderful and loving and her days are full of fun! The children are loved and nurtured and attend chapel weekly.
Q: How did you come to the decision of adoption?
A: Adoption is the right choice for me. I really tried on my own and had some significant loss. After all the fertility treatments and miscarriages, I took a breath and said, "I still want this, but I want to give the children everything, let me build my financial security and home and when I am ready I will adopt." It makes perfect sense for me to build my family with children who need and deserve a wonderful life.
Q: What faith will you raise your child?
A: Christian. We attend a local Christian church. My children will know God, and the love of the Divine. They will feel this love, enjoy the stories from the Bible, sing and celebrate their life.
Q: What kind of relationship would you like to build with the birth mother through her pregnancy?
A: It is mostly her choice. I would love to meet her, and definitely be in the birthing room. From there, if she would like time together, that is good, and if not much, that is okay too. I am praying for her, and I hope she is praying that she finds the right mom also. I am a woman of faith, and I feel God will help us find each other and give the child the perfect home with me. I believe she will somehow feel this inside her and feel a sense of peace and that all is well
Q: What was your relationship with your parents like?
A: Good. My mom taught me much about homemaking, I learned to sew and embroider and keep house. We did crafts together and I helped as I was the oldest daughter. We had a big house I helped clean and had responsibilities with the house. My dad loved and still loves nature and history. He's now into tech stuff and loves hanging out at the Apple store learning the latest program. He worked a lot when I was young, so we got to really be together when we were camping. We'd hike and had magical camp fires with roasted hot dogs and marshmallows. He told stories and took us to every fort in the US. He was great!
Q: Describe your personality
A: I am loving and gentle, kind hearted and generous. I'm well-organized, with strength of character. I am also creative and bright. I am always seeking to understand and much of my motivation is to learn about what motivates folks. I am a loyal friend, ready to help, and willing to accept help also. I am definitely type A, meaning a bit of an over-achiever. My will has served me well in business and I am always helping mentor my friends, helping them with business and love.
Q: What are your hobbies?
A: Children, nature, hiking, running, all kinds of music, travel, movies, sewing, crocheting, writing, decorating, entertaining.
Q: When you close your eyes and see yourself holding your precious baby in your arms, what are your thoughts regarding his or her birth mother?
A: God bless you. Thank you. You are so wonderful! I appreciate you and your courage. You are so strong. Your baby will always know how you loved them enough to give them the best possible life and I will always be grateful to you for caring so much. Words are not enough. Thank you!
Q: How will a child enrich your life?
A: In all we share and enjoy together, in all I learn from them as they grow, and become curious, in the love I will finally get to shower on this little one and the love that comes back to me. In the joy of the first smile, first step, first word. In the pretty scribbles and the adventures we take together. I live in this big, peaceful house, the baby or babies will help me fill it with laughter and songs and stories, and will help me make this house a family home. I have longed for this my whole life, to love and fulfill my desires to raise and guide children in the ways of love, happiness and life. I love being a mom, I love the social times of play dates and commiserating with other parents. I love learning how they do things, and supporting the children in blossoming.
Q: How did you choose your career?
A: It really choose me. I am very good at what I do, and have had much recognition as an expert in my field. It allows me to work out of my home and set my own hours. When Baby arrives, I will drop my hours to 16 hours a week for the first few years. I have worked my job for many years and am free to relax and enjoy baby time, a time I hold very precious and don't want to miss!
