Dear Expectant Parent(s),
We appreciate your courage and willingness to explore the option of adoption with a couple of strangers we hope you will one day call family. Our lives have been blessed with unconditional love, guidance and support from our parents and family. The appreciation we have is only described by a longing to share our love, guidance and support with our family.
We met in 2012 in our hometown of North Dakota, where we were both born and raised. 16 months later we were married in Maui, Hawaii. We have wanted to have children since we first married and after several years of infertility and wanting to expand our family, we chose the path of adoption and are grateful that adoption is a possibility for us to achieve our dreams of raising a child together.
Having Beth in my life has made me a better person. She’s taught me so much about family, friendship, love and standing up for what I believe in. I love everything about her. She is the person I love the most, respect the most and trust with all my being. She is going to be an amazing mom and I can’t wait to raise a child with Beth.
Conan is my rock. He loves humor and often is trying out new jokes on me. He is a Dad joke machine. I call him “Mr. Aloha” because he goes out of his way to start conversations with others and help them feel loved. He supports all of his friends and family’s’ interests such as giving them advice on a website, starting a business, or something simple like setting up a new TV; Conan is the man they ask because he is someone we can all depend on. In my life he encourages all of my hobbies. He is creative. We got engaged in frigid ND on a curling rink where he used the stones to write out "marry me." He is my guy and I cannot wait to start a family with him.
Travel is one of our favorite things to do and many of our trips are to Japan to visit Beth’s brother and his family, other Hawaiian islands and the mainland. We can’t wait for your child to join us and we get to travel as a family. We believe that traveling keeps us open minded and gives is an appreciation for different cultures. We are excited to create family traditions with your child. We have a house based on creativity…digital art, painting, drawing. We will raise your child to have their own free will. We cannot wait to teach them to swim, take them whale watching, go to the aquarium, go for hikes and make memories. We will continue our hobbies and include your child in the process.
We live in a three-bedroom two story home. Living in Maui provides our family with many activities year-round, like hiking, whale watching, beach activities. We have a lot of friends and family visit us in the winter to get away from the cold temperature in North Dakota. So, I guess one of our hobbies is being amateur tour guides. We love to cook together. Con loves technology and always has the latest gadgets to keep himself busy. I love to sew, draw and watercolor paint. The island gives me plenty of colorful landscapes to doodle over.
Our neighborhood is in central Maui so we can cruise to the beach or mountains without little windshield time. In our neighborhood we have a sports complex, an elementary school, a golf range and golf course. Holidays in our neighborhood are busy. We have hundreds of kids trick or treating on Halloween! It has become one of our favorite holidays. It is like a block party with hundreds of kids in costumes running around. At midnight on New Year's the whole sky is lit-up with fireworks. We really love where we live on this rural island.
Our parents spend half of the year in Maui. On weekends we often stay with them on their side of the island. We hang out by the pool, morning walks on the beach, enjoy dinner together… Every year in August our niece and nephew from Japan visit us for several weeks. We love spending time at the beach playing in the sand and swimming. We also go camping on Haleakala crater. We enjoy mixing the cultures and creating memories. We have enjoyed creating new traditions with some island twists. One Summer we made it through the whole list of flavors of shave ice. We love having pool parties with our friends and their kids. We play water Uno and do treasure hunts.
In 2018 Beth did a DNA test and met a first cousin that was given up for adoption. She was searching for her biological family because it was a closed adoption and had never even seen a picture of her biological parents! In the last year she has received numerous photos of her biological family and has even meet her parents and siblings now! We have become very close and her journey and stories have inspired us to be open and transparent with our adopted child/children as we see how import it is first-hand.
Thank you for taking the time to read our letter. We can’t wait to hear from you and we are excited to join you on this amazing journey.
