Q: Tell us about your home and neighborhood.
A: We have created a peaceful home on our beautiful farm, located just outside of our thriving community. Our large, fenced backyard offers a safe and inviting place to run and play. While we are not surrounded by neighbors on every side, those closest to us are either close friends or family. Both of our parents live nearby and will be a reliable source of support and childcare.
Q: When you have a 3-day weekend, what you like to do?
A: We love to hang out with family and friends, relax and watch movies and make fun meals at home. We like to try new recipes and work in the kitchen together. Because of our flexible work schedules, we often have long weekends with a lot of time together at home.
Q: Do you have pets? If so, tell us about them.
A: We have one dog, an almost three-year-old St. Bernard named Finn. He’s an outdoor dog, as we have a large, fenced yard with lots of room to roam. He has his own temperature-controlled “shed” and enjoys a very spoiled life. He sleeps often and is very loyal and loving. He loves to cuddle and is simply adorable.
Q: What do you hope to teach your child(ren)?
A: If we could teach a child anything, it would be that they can be whatever they want in life and will always be loved. To support a child and give them every opportunity to reach their full potential would be our ultimate goal. We would work to instill hard work, honesty and kindness in all areas of life.
Q: What will you tell your child about his or her birth mom?
A: We will share, from as early as they are able to understand, how much they are loved by their birth mom. We will always share what a tremendous gift they were to us and that we couldn’t have created our beautiful family without their birth mom’s courageous and selfless decision.
Q: Are you active in your church? Tell us about your activities.
A: Alicia sings in the choir and is in charge of organizing special music, especially with young people who want to sing or play their instruments. Our congregation is very active in our area and provides things like holiday meals, donations to those in need and opportunities to make music together within our community. We have wonderful friends within our church.
Q: How will a child enrich your life?
A: A child will enrich our life in so many ways. We have a lot of love to give and want to provide the childhood that our parents gave both of us growing up, full of so much love, support and opportunity.
Q: Describe your last vacation and/or daytrip.
A: Alicia's grandmother, now 99, lives in Florida with her little brother and Aunt. We try to visit as often as possible. It is a wonderful way to relax and spend time with family. Over the last ten years, we have taken many side trips and done fun “Florida” things, like Sea World and the Space Center.
Q: Will you be a stay-at-home parent? If so, what are your day-to-day plans?
A: We are both self-employed, which means we set our own hours every day. Alicia was a high school teacher before starting her business to work privately with students and families in our community. Justin is a farmer and while he works hard each day, he is never far from home and home each night for dinner. When we decided to start a family, the flexibility of both of us being self-employed meant that one of us would be at home at all times, which was very important to us.
Q: Will you be returning to work? If so, describe your day-care plans.
A: Since our hours are extremely flexible, returning to work will simply mean changing our routine. Alicia works limited hours a few days a week and school drop offs, pick-ups and everything in between will be possible for us. Our families, who live close by, are eagerly awaiting the times when they can be helpful! All childcare will take place in our home and a typical day care will not be necessary.
Q: When you close your eyes and see yourself holding your precious baby in your arms, what are your thoughts regarding his or her birth mother?
A: We will work every day to prove we are worthy of this gift. We will constantly remember that you are a part of our journey to create our family and will always be more grateful than you could ever even imagine. We will always be extremely thankful for the ability to be parents and that started with you.
