From Us to You

Our names are Brent and Lida, and we’ve been waiting for you for a long time. You, the most courageous person we will ever know. You, with so much love in her heart. You, the person who will help us start a family. You. We are waiting for You.

Thank you so much for considering us as parents for your child. We hope this letter and profile give you an idea of who we are, and the kind of parents we will be to your child.

We have both been looking forward to having children for a long time. We tried for a long time to have our own child, but we were unsuccessful. However, we are very happy that our infertility has brought us to adopting because we know that this is the right solution for us. We know we can create an amazing life for your child.

We were both brought up in loving homes with lots of family around, and family is still very important to us. We look forward to sharing our families and our family traditions with a child. Our family and friends are all so happy for us and anxious to meet our new addition.

We met online and dated for almost a year before moving in together. On our first Valentine’s Day, Brent got Lida two kittens, Zoe and Kaylee. They are the cats we still have today. A year after that, we were married at our home. We had a simple ceremony with family, then a big cookout and party with all our friends and family. We are a great couple because we complement each other. Brent’s quiet nature keeps me grounded, and my talkative personality has helped him to be more outgoing.

We both have good, stable jobs. Brent has been with his current employer for many years. He started as a computer programmer and is now the Senior Director of a large development team. I am a dance teacher and office manager at my family’s dance studio. I love children and am so glad to be able to work with them every day. We both feel that taking dance not only teaches children how to dance, but it also teaches confidence, how to work towards a goal, and encourages exercise. But we promise not to make your child’s life all about dance! Brent’s love of sports balances my love of the arts, and we want you to know your child’s choices will be their own to make. We will encourage them in whatever path they choose.

We live in a small-town suburb, in a ranch-style house, on 14-acres of woods. On the weekends we like to travel in our RV or just chill out at home. Sometimes we visit with friends or family or do a DIY project around the house. We also enjoy walking in the woods on our property and spending time outside.

We hope you will continue to read more and learn even more about us. We have so much we would like to share with you!

He is mine in a way that he will never be hers,
Yet he is hers in a way that he will never be mine.
And so together, we are Motherhood.

–Desha Wood

We hope to hear from you soon. We are waiting for You.

Love and Best Wishes,
Lida & Brent

About Brent, by Lida

Brent is a wonderful and kind man. He is the type of man who shows his strength through his gentle nature and kind actions. He is extremely intelligent, an avid reader, and likes to work around the house and play video games in his spare time. He also enjoys sports, particularly, basketball and football, and like me, he loves animals of all kinds and watching movies. He also likes to drive, and as a result when we go on a trip, it’s usually a road trip. Brent will be a wonderful and loving father. He is extremely patient and has a great sense of humor. I know he looks forward to spending time with your child, both one-on-one and as a family. I can’t wait to see him in action!

About Lida, by Brent

Lida is a wonderful, intelligent and kind woman who loves being around children. While she has lived in many places and worked on a number of careers, she came back to her home town to continue her mother’s legacy at the dance studio. Lida likes reading, especially Harry Potter and Stephen King, traveling to new places with beautiful scenery, museums, cooking, decorating, and watching talent shows and action movies. Most of all though, Lida loves her cats and her students. Lida has been around children for years as a teacher and guardian, but her dream has always been to raise a family. She is already a mother, she just needs a child. I know she will devote all of her energy to the new member of our family.

Our Families

Our families are small but close. Lida’s father passed away when she was 22, but she works with and sees her mother almost every day. Her mom is super excited to meet her new grandchild. Lida also has one brother who lives just a couple of hours away. He lives with his wife and their daughter who is 4 years old. Unfortunately all of Lida’s grandparents have passed away, but she has lots of 2nd and 3rd cousins all over the country.

Brent’s father passed away last year, and his mother a few years before that. Brent was raised by his father and his step mother who still lives nearby. Brent also has a brother who lives a couple hours away. He and his wife have a son who is 12 years old. He is anxiously awaiting the arrival of his new cousin. Brent’s grandma also lives just one state away in Iowa near his aunt and several other members of his extended family.

Our Careers

Lida – My career and passion is teaching dance. I love the moment when a child achieves a goal they have worked hard for. My competitive team is my second family. They are all super excited to meet the newest member of our family.

Brent – Software development and computers are my chosen career and calling. I spend my free time on computers at home, my own or cloud servers, and enjoy system administration and learning new programming languages.

Our Home

We live in a suburb of a small town in Illinois. We recently moved to this fantastic home set on the edge of 14 acres of our own forest. It’s off the road, down a long driveway, but still just 5 minutes from the main highway and in a subdivision with many other families and children. The simple exterior of the house helps to accent the natural beauty of the land around it. There is lots of wildlife around and down the path, away from the house, is a beautiful pond. There is a nice backyard with plenty of room to play, lots of trees to climb, and places to explore and learn about nature. In the front yard is a huge oak tree that is just begging for a tire swing!

Our Pets

We have 2 cats, Zoe & Kaylee. They are tortoise shell calicos and will be nine years old this year. Both of our kitties love to cuddle. Kaylee is big and kind of weird, but in a sweet & silly way. Zoe is more energetic, she’s much smaller than Kaylee, and loves to zoom around the house and play.

Our Traditions

Both of our families have similar traditions. We both grew up having barbecues on summer holidays, celebrating the big holidays with our families and watching fireworks on the 4th of July. Birthday parties are a big deal in both of our families as well. Everyone gets together for a meal, cake and presents. It’s always a fun time! We know a family where the parents decorate the kitchen every year on the morning of their kids birthday, so their daughter wakes up and immediately feel special. Then they all have a birthday breakfast together. We love that idea, and hope to be able to do that with our child one day. Since we’ve been married, we’ve split Thanksgiving and Christmas between the two families. On Thanksgiving we eat with Lida’s family. Lida cooks turkey with all the trimmings and her brother makes the pies. Then another day of the Thanksgiving weekend we have dinner with Brent’s family. Sometimes Brent’s mom cooks and sometimes we go out to eat. Then on Christmas Eve, Lida cooks a big meal, and we take it her mom’s house. Her brother and his family come and we all eat dinner and open presents. On Christmas Day we drive to Brent’s brother’s house for brunch and presents with his family and Brent’s mom. Our family traditions are important to us, and we both look forward to having another member of the family to share them with.

Our Lifestyle

We live in a small town in central Illinois. We really enjoy living in the same area where Lida grew up, and only about 40 minutes from where Brent grew up. Our neighborhood is a nice subdivision, and lots of families with children live in the area. We have a big ranch style house on 14 acres of woods. Our house has large windows that look out into the woods and that’s the part we like best. The outside of the house isn’t that exciting, but it’s the view from the living room that made us want to live there. During the day, Brent works as an IT Manager, and Lida sometimes spends a few hours doing book-work or choreography for her mom’s dance studio. In the evenings Brent is home, but Lida works 3 evenings a week teaching dance. We are lucky to have complimentary schedules so one of us will always be around for your child, and we can spend most evenings and weekends all together. We have 2 very cute cats named Zoe & Kaylee. They really make us happy and keep us laughing. On the weekends, we like to go on short trips in our RV, go to movies, or work on projects around the house. Once or twice a year we go on a longer trip somewhere in America.

A Typical 3-Day Weekend

During the warmer months we take many 3-day weekends to go on short trips in our RV. We have a fifth wheel trailer that we tow behind Brent’s truck. We love road trips and want to see as much of the country as we can. On a weekend trip, we usually stay in Illinois or nearby states and just look for a nice campground with a lake and fun things to do nearby.

Cultural Diversity

If we become a culturally diverse family, the cultural identity of each of our children will be very important to us. There are steps we will take to ensure our children know who they are and where they come from, and we would do everything we can to honor that culture. Some of our plans include choosing toys and books which are tied to our child’s natural culture, providing proper skin and hair care, taking our children to multicultural events, and discussing the differences between the cultures, presenting each in a positive light. If they wish, the birth family could be involved in our child’s life and involved in teaching them about their culture. Ultimately, we want our child to love themselves and where they came from as much as they love our family, and as much as we love them.

Our Thoughts about the Birth Mother

What we will tell our child about their birth mother:
We want the child to know everything that the birth mom wants him or her to know. We hope that she will share some things with us, her likes and dislikes, maybe her family traditions… However, if she prefers not to share with us, we will still tell the child how strong and amazing she is and how very much she loved them.

What type of relationship we would like to build with our birth mother:
We are open to any relationship that our birth mother wants. It’s all up to her, we are easy to get along with. 😀

When we picture ourselves holding your precious baby, these are our thoughts regarding his/her birth mother:
Adoption is a puzzle with 2 pieces. The birth mom is one and we are the other. Without both of us, the puzzle isn’t complete. It takes an amazing woman to have the courage to support her child and help us at the same time. We have nothing but love for her, and are looking forward to meeting the other part of our family’s puzzle.

Why We have Chosen to Adopt

Lida – I have always wanted to be a mom, but infertility prevented that through the usual means. After years of trying, we just want to build our family, and I think adopting is an amazing way to do that. Adding a birth mom and baby to our life will increase our family by two and we are very excited about that! Becoming a mom is one of the most important things in my life, and I can’t wait for it to become a reality.

Brent – I have always been attracted to the idea of adoption. Being a father to a child who needs a home, is something I’d really like to be able to do. Right now we have no children, but we would like to adopt a newborn as well as some older children. I’m really looking forward to being a father and seeing the world through their eyes.
