Can I Place My Baby for Adoption from the Hospital?

View Waiting Families

Yes — you can choose adoption from the hospital.

Whether you’re in labor, have just delivered, or are holding your newborn in recovery, it’s not too late. Even if you didn’t have a plan before arriving at the hospital, you still have options — and the legal right to create an adoption plan that protects you and your baby.

At Adoption Network Law Center (ANLC), we’ve helped many women place their babies directly from the hospital with support, care, and compassion.

Here’s how it works.

Is It Too Late to Choose Adoption?

Not at all.

You can contact ANLC during labor, immediately after delivery, or anytime while you’re at the hospital. We’ll connect you with a dedicated advisor right away — someone who understands what you’re going through and can guide you step-by-step.

You’ll never be rushed. You’ll never be pressured. And you’ll always be respected.

What Happens If I Contact You From the Hospital?

If you reach out to us while you’re at the hospital:

  • We’ll connect you to a birth mother advocate — 24/7, even at night or on weekends
  • We’ll help you build a hospital plan based on your comfort and wishes
  • You’ll be able to choose from families who are legally approved and ready to adopt immediately
  • We’ll coordinate with the hospital social worker or staff, if needed
  • Our legal team will walk you through the process at your pace

All services are free and confidential, and no adoption paperwork will be signed until you’re ready — and only after birth.

Can I Still Choose the Family?

Yes. Even from the hospital, you can:

  • Review family profiles
  • Ask for specific preferences (race, religion, location, etc.)
  • Speak with the family (if desired)
  • Let us know if you’d prefer to keep things private

The baby can go directly home with the adoptive family you choose — not into foster care.

What Kind of Support Will I Get?

We’re here for more than just paperwork. From the hospital, we can help you:

  • Access allowable financial assistance (e.g., for housing, food, or transportation)
  • Coordinate your hospital experience (who’s in the room, what time you want with the baby, etc.)
  • Offer emotional support or referrals to counseling
  • Arrange for follow-up communication with the adoptive family (open, semi-open, or closed)

You don’t have to make this decision alone or under pressure. We support your voice, your comfort, and your timing.

What If I’ve Already Left the Hospital?

Even if you’ve already taken the baby home, it’s still possible to place your child for adoption. Reach out to us, and we’ll help you explore your options safely and respectfully.

Key Adoption Agency Considerations

The hospital can be an emotional, overwhelming place — especially if you didn’t plan to make an adoption decision. But no matter how late it feels, you are not out of time — and you are not alone.

We’re here to support you, advocate for you, and help you make the best decision for your baby and your future.
