Dear Expecting Mother,

Thank you so much for making the courageous choice of LIFE for your baby. Please let me begin by saying that the deep love you must feel for your child can only rival your immense bravery and strength. I can only imagine the emotional roller coaster you must be on, but know that your selflessness is an amazing gift that will never be forgotten. If I am lucky enough to raise your child, we will strive every day to be as strong and kind, and to live with your example in our hearts. You are in my constant prayers during this tumultuous time.

I grew up the oldest daughter in a loving, Irish Catholic family. Education and family were the cornerstones of my upbringing, and those traditions continue as my family grows. I have two brothers, one of which is married and has two beautiful little girls. My nieces were the inspiration for me to start my family, to begin my adoption journey. I cannot get enough of their smiles; seeing the world through their eyes keeps me young at heart. I’m also very close with my parents, who are retired and looking forward to having another grandchild to spoil. I am unusually close with my extended family, being able to call my aunts, uncles and cousins some of my closest friends. We get together often and everyone is there – no one dare miss it! We were raised to value these close family ties and these gatherings encompass some of my fondest childhood memories. All of them are anxiously waiting with open arms to meet the newest addition to our incredible family!

I’ve always loved school, in fact I preferred it to the often, long, sometimes boring, summers. But my life really changed when I studied abroad in college. I traveled around Europe every weekend from my home base in London, and saw things I only ever read about in books. I learned to rely on maps and understand complicated train schedules. I discovered a small itch for photography and my love of history skyrocketed. I came back with a different perspective on the world around me and I’ve tried to keep that perspective fresh in my mind. I’ve gone back to Europe several times since college and every time I learn something new about myself. I cannot wait to share my passion for travel you’re your child, to see in their eyes the magic and wonder I know the world holds.

I have a lovely brick home in the suburbs, right between Washington, DC and Baltimore, two cities that offer so much to see and do. My wooded neighborhood is beautiful all year round, and I have some of the kindest neighbors. I love taking care of my home and hosting my friends and family. I work as an outside salesperson and I’m lucky to have a very flexible schedule, allowing me to work from home most days.

In addition to travel, some of my hobbies include baking cupcakes and chocolate chip cookies from scratch, playing the piano, reading historical fiction books (Peter Rabbit and Winnie the Pooh are childhood favorites), and hiking. Weekends are full of BBQs and birthday parties and lounging by the pool (located right down the path from my backyard). On quiet days, I catch up on my favorite shows, do a puzzle or re-organize a closet. Needless to say, I don’t sit still very often and music is my constant companion. I like all kinds of music, from Pop and 80’s, to country and classic rock. I love listening to Ed Sheeran, the Beatles, and Journey. Right now I’m really digging Billie Eilish!

Since I was young, I knew I was meant to have a family. I babysat in the neighborhood when I was a teenager and was a camp counselor for many summers. Kids are drawn to me – in fact, someone jokingly called me the “baby-whisperer,” when I was the only one who could get my youngest niece to fall asleep. I cannot wait to be a mom – I haven’t met the right guy. I don’t want that to stand in my way of achieving what I know is my destiny. So here I am! I promise to provide a loving and safe home for your child, filled with laughter and knowledge and compassion. He or she will be my number one priority and focus from the first.

It’s difficult to put all of “me” into a one-page letter, but my life is full and happy. It can only be made more wonderful by having a little person to share it with. I have so much love to give and I hope that can make your decision a little easier. I also hope we can make a plan to share photos and updates if you are comfortable with that. We are blessed to have found each other. I’ll continue to pray for God’s grace to hold you in His embrace.

With deepest gratitude,

Lisa

Q&A

When you have a 3-day weekend, what do you like to do?

I would go and visit friends who live a little farther away (NC, KY, NY). In the fall, I would do a long weekend at the beach, or I’d plan a sleepover with my nieces or outlet shopping with Mom. In the winter, I would bake some yummy brownies or cookies, do a movie marathon and a big puzzle.

What do you hope to teach your children?

I hope to teach my child to be loving and respectful and tolerant. I want to show him/her how important family is, how education is not just “school” and how we never stop learning. I want to teach my child how to find joy in the little things and carry that joy throughout life. I will show my child that our differences make us special and that time is our most precious commodity. But most of all, I want to show my child how much I will love them, always.

How will a child enrich your life?

A child is a blessing; to watch them grow and learn and change is a privilege. How awesome would it be to have that, every single day. How amazing would it be for a little person to depend on me for love and support. A child would bring a whole new dimension to the things I already do in my life. I want to experience it all through his/her eyes, like it was the first time all over again. A child will reinvigorate my passion for living life the best way I can.

Describe your last vacation and/or daytrip.

My parents reserved their timeshare and we all went to Disney World. It was a first for my nieces, and it had been so long since I had been there, it was all new to me as well. But doing it with them was a special treat. Everyone had so much fun – we did everything we could possibly do in the time that we had. We came home exhausted, to say the least. But when my niece asked to go back next year, we realized how truly special it was.
