From Us to You

Dear Expectant Mother,

Let us introduce ourselves. Our names are Patrick and Amanda and we live in a small town in Alaska. We were both active duty Air Force, and that’s what brought us to the Last Frontier. Patrick works as a Heavy Engine Mechanic on the nearby Army Post and also owns his own snow plow business. One day when Patrick walked into my office I didn’t think much of it, then a few months later we were madly in love. We have the type of love that you honestly read about and see in movies. We never knew marriage could be this amazing. Patrick is amazing. He is the most amazing husband and father I have ever had the pleasure of knowing. He always puts his family first; his kids are his life. Amanda is a great mother, who is outgoing and passionate and extremely loving and energetic. She works as a Records Manager for the nearby Army Post.

We have a pretty good-sized family. Patrick has a daughter who is her in 20s and she lives in on her own. We also have 3 boys together. Patrick adopted Amanda’s oldest son who is now 14 in 2016 and now he is fully and legally his boy. We have 2 sons together, ages 6 and 4.

Patrick is the picture of the perfect dad. He is kind and has the most patience I have ever seen. He is a man of honor and takes pride in being a dad. Since he was a young man, his dream was always to have a large family and marrying Amanda helped that dream come true. Patrick’s hobbies include camping, building, wood working, welding and being outdoors with his family. He is the kind of man that would give a stranger the shirt off his back if they needed it. He has a giving heart and the kindest soul. The first thing I fell in love with was Patrick’s love for being a father. After that, all else fell into place.

Amanda was born to be super mom and super wife. She is outgoing, and full of life and love. She loves to be with her family more than anything. Her family is and always has been her loved ones. Amanda loves giving to people, strangers, her friends, it doesn’t matter. She has a heart to be the best mom ever. She is all about baking cookies with the kids, and inviting friends over with their kiddos to decorate and bake with. She enjoys doing arts and crafts and teaching the boys how to cook. She always puts everyone else’s needs ahead of her own. She loves to travel and see new things and experience fun and exciting things with her family. To her, making memories is more important than material items.

We live in a 3-story home at the end of a cul-de-sac. Our front yard is big and green and has tons of room to play. Our backyard is a child’s playland. Patrick has built so many fun things for kids to play with. We have a slide built right into our deck, so the kids don’t have to take the stairs, they can just slide down to the yard. We love our neighborhood and neighbors. We are all close and watch out for one another. We live in a very safe area. Our small town is close and everyone knows everyone. There are so many fun things that go on year round for us to keep busy with.

When we picture our life with your child, we can envision our yearly Disney World Trip, and taking her to see all the Princesses and getting her dressed up in a Disney princess gown. That has been a dream of Amanda’s since she was a child herself, to have a little girl. We picture her in ballet class and having tea parties with her big brothers. Your little girl will be so loved and protected by 3 amazing big brothers. They will spoil her and always make sure she is safe and protected.

As you can see, family is our life. It means the world to us. We are so grateful to you and thank you for taking the time to read this and learn who we are. Words cannot express the respect we have for you and the decision you face and it is our hope that you see into our lives, and that you feel the love we have for each other, our family and for you and your child. We can’t wait to get to know you and to be there for you on this amazing journey.

Sincerely,
Patrick and Amanda

About Amanda

When I met Amanda I finally felt the love in my heart I had always yearned for. She strives to be super mom and she does it flawlessly. Amanda puts me and the kids ahead of her own needs every single time. She is unselfish and giving with everything she has. Spending time with us is the most important thing to her. Teaching her kids to cook, doing arts and crafts with them is how she loves to spend her time. She is the most beautiful woman I have ever know inside and out, she is my queen and my soul mate and we make a united team in all things we do.

About Patrick

When I first met Patrick I was not looking for love, or marriage. Within three weeks of dating I fell madly in love with him. I had finally found the home for my heart. He makes me want to be a better person, a better wife and the best mom I can possibly be. He is the kindest man I have ever met, the most amazing dad out there. He gives his whole heart to his family and always puts us first above anything. He loves the Lord and is a great man of God.

Our Family

Being in the military for so long we have learned that not every family member is blood related. We have some amazing friends in our circle. The kids call Amanda’s best friend Grandma Kim because she is so full of love and happiness and she and her husband Brian are so amazing to the boys and are so thrilled to get a baby girl to love on and spoil. Amanda’s cousin Shelly is like her sister. She and her husband Jesse have 5 kids and we are all so close with them. We take family vacations together so we can all spend time together and bond every year.

Why We are Choosing to Adopt

We have a total of 4 kids, his, mine and ours. Patrick has an adult daughter from his first marriage, I have an older son who Patrick adopted a few years ago, and we have two younger sons together. We have always wanted to raise a daughter together and so adoption has been on our hearts as the way to make this dream come true. We knew it would not be an easy road, but we also knew it would be worth it. Adopting means not only do we gain a daughter, but we also gain another family and that would be you.  We recognize the huge  and selfless sacrifice you are making should you chose us to parent your baby girl we would be so honored to be able to stay in touch with you and keep our relationship on going.

Our Home

Our house is full of love and toys. Our boys have a huge living room to play in and a backyard built for fun. You can always find Amanda in the kitchen cooking or baking and making sure everyone is taken care of. We spend our time mostly in the living room playing games and spending time together as a family. Our two dogs are small and loving little guys. They are pretty pampered pups.

Our Vacations

Vacations are big to us. We take a few big trips a year, Disney World being one of them. We are big Disney Nerds. We also love cruises. The boys are cruise addicts. They are our favorite type of trip. We think it’s important to take the kids on trips around the world to see other places and how other people live. We want them to see and experience other cultures and different ways of life. We want them to know life isn’t about the newest toy or electronic, but about experiences and memories. Making memories as a family is an important part of life for us. We like the kids knowing about history and culture and different ways of life. We love to have fun as a family.

Cultural Diversity

Patrick and I both grew up and joined the military out of high school. We come from quite different walks of life and ethnic backgrounds. Patrick is from a Scottish heritage and I come from a mixture of Puerto Rican, white and black heritage. Being in the military, we have been around all kinds of cultures. We have friends from different countries and backgrounds. Now living in Alaska, we live between two military bases and our town could not be more diverse. We attend a very culturally diverse church. The majority of our closest friends have ethnic backgrounds and different cultures, which is great because it allows our kids to be exposed to all walks of life. When we got married, I introduced Patrick to lots of Hispanic culture and food and soul food and it opened his world and he loves it. We enjoy honoring different holidays and learning about new traditions, as well as learning and growing from each other’s heritage and stories.

Faith in our Lives

Our faith is extremely important to us. God is at the center of our life. If it weren’t for God, Patrick and I would not be together and where we are at this point in our life right now. We love our church and our church family. They are a huge part of our life; they are big supporters of our adoption and always have been. They have been rooting us on from day one. It’s important for us as parents to raise our kids to know the Lord and to treat people with love and kindness. Patrick always says he knows he was put on this planet to raise mighty men of God and to be a good father and make sure his daughters know how to be treated by a godly man. And he is so correct. He leads our family with a loving heart, he’s kind and is an example for others to follow. He certainly beams happiness. I know I’m a better woman, wife and mother because of God and my church family.

How We Met

Patrick and I met at work when we were both in the military. He walked into my office one day and I thought he was a loud guy with a bad haircut. We started talking, went on our first date, and within the first 3 weeks we were crazy in love with each other. We knew we wanted to get married and have kids together and grow our family. We have the best time with each other, we are best friends and choose to spend our free time together. He makes me laugh and I keep him well fed.

Our Personalities

Patrick is the fun, silly and outgoing thrill seeking one. Amanda is the scheduled, rule-following, on time but still fun one. We run our house perfectly down the middle. It’s chaotic, but also respectful. When they say opposites attract, they were right. Patrick is very loud, funny and outgoing and will talk to any stranger he meets. Amanda is more on the quiet side. She pretty much keeps to herself and has a small circle of friends. We fit so well together; we complement each other in the best ways. We are both big romantics, we love love. We love being parents. We love being outdoors and doing a lot of the same things. We both love action movies and getting dirty outside. We also love to make each other laugh. Patrick has a big belly laugh! He loves to bust out dancing in the strangest places just to make us all laugh.

Our Lifestyle

The people in our lives mean so much to us. Whether they are family or friends, we cherish every moment spent. We love to spend time with our family on the river or friends by a fire on the weekend. We are both homebodies, but also love being in the great outdoors of Alaska. We love taking the boys camping, hiking and just spending time together as a family. We love to travel. Vacationing is our favorite thing to do as a family. We feel it’s important to show the kids the world and give them the experience of traveling and seeing different cultures and how other people live. To us traveling a few times a year is like a good adventure. We also enjoy our date nights, putting time back into our relationship is also especially important to us because it means it’s that much more we can give to our family.

What We will Teach our Children

It’s important to us that our kids grow up to be good people. The boys are so kindhearted and polite. We absolutely love hearing “Wow, your boys are so polite!” They are so sweet. We believe in respect and helping people in need. We want our kids to know that it’s okay to fail and to get right back up and try again. Our boys now all have chores that fit their age; we want them to know we are a family and a team and that we can’t work together unless we work as a team. It makes my mama heart so proud to see my boys hold the door open for people when we go places because that is what they were taught from a young age. We will teach your daughter what it means to be a young lady, to be independent and smart and that she can do anything she puts her mind to.

Our Traditions

We LOVE Christmas… And we celebrate it BIG in this house! We go all out, we decorate, we bake. We do anything and everything there is to do for Christmas. We go see Santa and take our annual photo. We always have a big Christmas dinner with family and friends and lots of gifts. The kids enjoy it the most. They always get spoiled by their grandparents, aunts and uncles. Amanda loves to cook and bake, so everything is made fresh and from scratch and everyone is always excited for her cooking and baked goods around the holiday time. We look forward to welcoming that perfect baby girl to love and spoil on her first Christmas and to take tons of photos and make memories with her. Our tree is decorated in Disney ornaments. In this house we love Disney A LOT. Amanda is from Florida, so we try to visit Disney World at least once a year.

What Attracted Us to Each Other

Amanda has this smile, a smile that can light up a room. Her eyes are also amazing. She can flutter her lashes and her eyes are just so fierce. I noticed them the first time I met her. She has this intense love for people, to want to help everyone she meets. She loves being a mother. The way she spoke about her son when we met really blew me away.

Patrick has these blue eyes that sparkle and a personality to match. A few months after he came to our squadron, I got to know him better after working with him more. In a staff meeting I noticed how muscular he was, and I smiled, and I felt like I was 15 years old. He would just smile at me. I did not know what was happening to me because normally I do not act this way. I am way more professional. But we went on a date and three weeks later I told him I loved him. I could not wait to marry him and give him babies. I was smitten. Ten years later he can still make my heart skip a beat.

Our Promise to You

We promise to love your child more than life itself. We promise to give her the world and anything else she may need in life. We promise to honor your wishes and respect what type of adoption you ask for, whether it’s an open or closed adoption. Your daughter will have the best life, the safest home and the most protective big brothers ever known. These boys have been waiting for her for so long; they ask about her daily and pray for her every night at dinner. She will have the best education and be raised in a safe and extremely loving home. We love our children with our whole heart; they are our priority in every aspect and everything we do. As parents we don’t have a selfish bone in our bodies. When we make decisions, the kids are at the forefront of our minds. We promise to always make sure your daughter knows you made this choice because you love her and will always love her.

Why We want to Adopt a Little Girl

Since I, Amanda, was a little girl, I have always dreamed of having a daughter of my own. A daughter to take to ballet, dress up in pretty dresses, go prom dress shopping with and one day plan a big fancy wedding for. Growing up I was a girly girl, I was in dance and cheerleading and loved all things pink and girly. I have three sons, who I wouldn’t trade for anything in the world. I love them so much! Ever since we got married we have planned to adopt, and we have always wanted to have a daughter together. It just wasn’t in the cards to make one together. Ever since we started this journey I have bought our future baby girl more clothes and shoes and anything and everything she could ever need or want for the next five years. She has siblings waiting for her, a big sister ready to spoil her, and 3 big brothers who pray for her every single night. Patrick has a daughter he raised prior to us, so I am really misty eyed at the thought of getting the privilege to bring up a daughter with him. He will be wrapped around her tiny finger from day one; I doubt she will ever hear the word no from him. She will be coming into a family that has been waiting a lifetime to love her, and keep her safe.
