Dear Expectant Mother,

Placing the life of your child in the arms of someone you have never met before takes a lot of courage and we are very grateful that you are taking the time to read our letter. It is our hope to assure you of the endless love and wonderful life we have to share with your child and hope to hear from you soon.

We have decided to adopt because we are unable to conceive a child, and while Karen has 2 sons (Mauricio and Diego) from a previous marriage who are very much a part of our family, we would love the experience of raising a child together.

My wife Karen is the most caring and unselfish person I know! She is overflowing with love to give, and I am fortunate enough to receive much of it! Karen comes from Bolivia and has 2 sons from a previous marriage. They are adults now, and she is an amazing mother – they are great young men and will be very positive influences in your child’s life. Karen’s world revolves around her family and she is always thinking about what she can do for them. Karen is the heart of our household and she does a great job at creating a warm, loving home. She is also an amazing cook! Karen also has a great spice for life, and there is never a dull moment with her. We enjoy traveling together, going out with our family, and doing all of the fun things that everyone likes, but perhaps Karen’s best trait is how down-to-earth and loving she is.

Ned has the biggest heart of any person I have ever met. He is always in a positive mood and has a great outlook on life – does not take things too seriously and always loves to make me laugh. He is extremely unselfish and always puts others before himself. He is also always supportive and positive through good times and bad. His best traits are his unselfishness, positivity, loyalty, patience, and his ability to connect with people and make them feel comfortable – these are all things that will make him a great father! Ned loves kids and is great with them! For the last 8 years he has volunteered as a mentor for troubled youth in the Washington, D.C. area, and every year he coaches 2 basketball teams – one boys’ team and one girls’ team. He has a very noble heart in any situation, very patient, loves to travel, very intelligent, very respectful, he is a wonderful man!

We have a fairly large and unique family, and while each family member is different and special in their own way, one thing that is common across the entire family is the theme of positivity and unconditional love towards one another. Your child would be welcomed into this world with open arms and we are all super excited at the possibility of adding a new child to the family. You child would also have two older brothers, Mauricio who is a dentist and Diego who is an engineer to look up to and will be positive influences their life.

Your baby would be the center of our home and of our lives! We would give your child the greatest life possible, and we would see him or her as a unique individual who we have the responsibility of guiding through life on whatever path he or she chooses, through all of the many exciting stages of life, through good times and through bad. Throughout this journey, your child will be raised with unconditional love and positivity.

During day-to-day life, we would fill your child’s life with as much activity and stimulation as possible. This activity would come in many different forms. We can’t wait to watch your child grow up and see them learning about new things every day, playing sports, learning read and write, enjoying music and art. As your child develops and shows interest in specific areas, we would encourage and support them. We want to raise your child to be confident in themselves and above all else, happy.

Our love of traveling has taken us around the world, and we are excited at the thought of bringing a son or daughter along with us on traveling journeys. We would aim to show your child as much of the world as possible, and make sure that he or she experiences, learns about, and is influenced by many different cultures.

Although we expect to bring great joy and happiness to your child’s life, this child will also bring great happiness to our lives as well!

We are honored that you have considered us as possible future parents of your precious child! We want you to know that you can place your trust and faith in us, and we make you a lifelong commitment to provide unconditional love, support, and positivity to your child through all of life’s stages.
With love,
Ned & Karen

Tell us about your home and neighborhood.

We live in Virginia and our neighborhood is very nice – full of trails, parks and nature, but also walkable to major commercial developments with shopping, restaurants, and offices. The neighborhood is very child friendly, as most families have young children. Within walking distance of our house, there are many playgrounds, multiple schools (in one of the best public school systems in the U.S.), 3 pools, tennis courts, a golf course, a large lake, and a community center with learning programs and other activities to enroll kids of all ages. The neighborhood is very safe and our neighbors are all friendly. Our home is a single-family home, with 4 bedrooms, 3.5 bathrooms, and a 2-car garage. We also have a nice patio which we enjoy in the fall and summer time. We moved into the house about 4 years ago, and we recently remodeled our kitchen and have made it very kid friendly, with a large island and art area. The house is average size, and is very comfortable!

When you have a 3-day weekend, what you like to do?

We have many 3-day weekends, as our work schedules offer us a lot of flexibility. We love to be spontaneous and not plan too much in advance, but we enjoy taking 3 or 4 day trips to explore new areas, either by car or flight. If we stick around town, we usually find ourselves filling our days with activities outside or at the gym in the morning, then meet with Ned’s parents or our friends for lunch, and come home in the evening to relax and be with our dog Fifi.

Do you have pets? If so, tell us about them.

We have a nice dog named Fifi. She is a small Maltese who is 12 years old. She adds a lot of happiness to our house and is a very happy dog, however she has many medical problems with her bones and joints, beginning when she was 5 years old. She has had 2 hip surgeries, 1 knee surgery, and many other orthopedic issues, and although she cannot run around like more healthy dogs can, she is extremely happy and loves to play!

What do you hope to teach your child(ren)?

We look forward to teaching our children everything that we know! Most importantly, we will teach them that they are unconditionally loved, and that they are unique, special people. We will teach him/her to be a good, honest, and hardworking person.

What will you tell your child about his or her birthmom?

We know that our child will be very curious and want to know a lot about his/her birth mother, and we also know that how we explain things is very important. During the adoption process, we will ask the child’s birthmom what she would like us to say about her and inform them accordingly. From the beginning, we will tell your child openly and honestly about their adoption story, and make sure that it is something that they feel makes them unique rather than viewing it negatively. With consent from the birthmother, we would show them pictures of their birthmother, and explain the important role that she had in the creation of our family. We will emphasize positivity and make sure that they feel that the adoption decision was made out of love and care rather than rejection.

Are you active in your church? Tell us about your activities.

We are both Christians and were raised with religion as an important part of our lives. Karen attends church weekly and Ned accompanies her often.

How will a child enrich your life?

A child would enrich our lives in countless ways. Primarily, we have a seemingly infinite amount of love to give, and it would make us very happy to have a child to share this love with. We both feel so blessed to have been given so much in this world, and it would add immense value to our lives to be able to share these many blessings with a child. It would also give us great joy to invest so much love and attention into a child, and watch those investments flourish as your child develop into a happy, unique person through the many stages of his/her early life.

Describe your last vacation and/or daytrip.

We love traveling and travel frequently. During our last trip, we traveled to Greece for one week a few months ago during this past summer. We had never been there before and loved it! We were living in Dubai for the past 2 years (have since moved home), and decided to celebrate our wedding anniversary by taking the relatively short flight to Athens, Greece. We did not plan much in advance – just booked hotel reservations and left. We spent 2 days in the capital city of Athens, then spent the next 5 days traveling through the Greek islands, including Santorini and Mykonos. In Athens, we visited ancient ruins, and in each island we visited we rented motor scooters and explored the islands inside and out. We also spent a lot of time at the beach and on the water – the weather was perfect. We ate a lot and came back home with big smiles!

Will you be a stay-at-home parent? If so, what are your day-to-day plans?

Karen will stay at home with your child all day every day. Day-to-day plans will change through the different ages – during infancy, days will begin with a feeding and bath, and spend some time with Ned before he leaves for work. Then Karen will fill the days with as many activities as possible, include outside activities like walking through the neighborhood, playing at the playground, or visiting the lake nearby. Your child will accompany Karen on errands and will often visit his/her grandparents (Ned’s parents) who live nearby and will love to shower their grandchild with love and attention! When Ned gets home from work he will play with the child and help Karen take care of him/her. Throughout the full day, we will continually talk to your child and make sure his/her brain is stimulated and developed. Before bed, we will bathe them and read him/her books before sleeping.

When you close your eyes and see yourself holding your precious baby in your arms, what are your thoughts regarding his or her birth mother?

While holding our baby in our arms and thinking of his/her birth mother, we would feel very happy and enriched with love to have the precious baby in our arms, and we would think of how grateful we are to the birth mother for making the difficult and unselfish decision of adoption.

Do you speak a foreign language?

Yes - We are both fluent in Spanish and will raise your child to be bilingual! We are excited to teach your child to read, write and speak in Spanish!
