From Me to You

You are incredible. I’m not sure if you feel like a hero right now but you are in every single way. I can tell because you are considering this path for you and your child and I am beyond grateful for your courage. Every single person whose profile you view truly wants to be a parent, and you may be the wonderful person that will make that happen.

Atticus Finch from To Kill a Mockingbird wisely said “You never really understand a person until you consider things from his point of view, until you climb into his skin and walk around in it.” Try as I might to understand your life-changing decision, I can never fully comprehend your emotions and feelings because I am not walking in your shoes. All I can do is simply admire the courage, bravery, selflessness, and unconditional love you have for your baby.

For as long as I can remember, I have dreamt of meeting the man of my dreams, getting married and having children, but unfortunately life hasn’t worked out the way I had planned. The road to this point in my life has not been easy, but my faith in God has strengthened because I know I am on the path I am meant to be on. It is exciting that all the steps I have taken to build my family have led me here. So you’re probably asking yourself why I chose adoption as the way to start my family. It’s the simplest reason of all: to become a mother. Motherhood has been a desire of mine for most of my adult life and caring for children is in my blood. After a few unsuccessful relationships, I embarked on my own journey to motherhood and with much thought, consideration, and the support of my friends and family, I was led to adoption.

Some of my favorite things include Mexican food, pizza, true crime television shows, mystery novels, suspenseful movies, hosting parties, and spending time in the kitchen. On the weekends, I enjoy going on an early morning run or walk with my dogs and cooking a big breakfast. A weekend must is creating “me” time where I relax with a good book, watch a movie, or get a pedicure and I’m looking forward to the day where “me” time becomes “we” time that is spent with your child going to theme parks, zoos and museums.

As a parent, I promise to give your child a wonderful upbringing that will lead them to become a confident and kind person. They will know your courage, your deep love for them and that you are the first page of their amazing story. Our home will be filled with laughter, love, compassion, and structure. We will have family game nights, read bedtime stories, and play baseball in the yard. They will be welcomed into my large, loving family who will support them in achieving their dreams, help them discover their passions, and instill values such as kindness and determination.

Thank you for taking the time to get to know me. I am thrilled to have this opportunity and am embracing every moment. The timing is right for me to enter this journey and I’m ready to be a mom with a heart that is wide open and prepared to unconditionally love your child. I have been praying for years to become a mom, but if I am not a match for you, know that I wish God gives you wisdom, clarity and peace with your decision.

“Family is where life begins and love never ends.”

With love,
Melissa

My Family and Friends

Some of my greatest joys are in my friends, family and home with my family being the center of my life. I am extremely fortunate to have an amazingly supportive mom, dad, and step-mom who have set beautiful examples of being kind, generous, and extremely loving. Even though my parents are divorced, we still have family gatherings where my mom, dad, step-mom, siblings and half siblings all get together. It is a unique situation, but it works for us.

Over the years, my mom has become my best friend and I am so lucky that I was able to grow up with her as my mother. She is very compassionate and she loves being around children. We teach Sunday school together at our church and to see the joy in her eyes whenever she is around children solidifies to me why she is such a wonderful grandmother.

Raising a child surrounded by love and family is important to me and, as a single mom, having a superstar support system of family and friends will play an essential piece in the upbringing of your child. My mom lives within walking distance and my older brother and his family live up the street. My dad, step-mom, and other siblings live in close proximity to me, as well as several aunts, uncles, and cousins. I have five nieces and nephews, a great niece, and several of my first cousins have young children. Your child will be surrounded by lots of love and already has a crew of kids waiting for a new playmate. It takes a village and my village is ready to welcome your baby into our family!

My Home

My home is in a quiet neighborhood and I’m fortunate to have the most amazing neighbors.  On warm summer nights, my neighborhood hosts “block parties” where everyone gathers with food and enjoys each other’s company.  Recently I purchased an acre of land and have plans to start building my dream home soon. My new land is situated in a neighborhood with several other new homes and I’m fortunate to already know most of my new neighbors.  Both my current and future home are located just a short distance from several parks, museums, zoos, aquariums, and more.

My Dogs, Maggie and Noel

I love spending time with my dogs, Maggie and Noel. They are energetic, tender-hearted, and enjoy playing in the yard. Maggie, my two-year-old Beagle, likes to play fetch, play with her toys, and sit in the yard and watch the squirrels. Noel, my West Highland Terrier mix, is laid back and loves to go on walks. Both of them are supreme cuddlers, and most nights we take time to snuggle on the couch while I watch the latest episode of one of my favorite TV shows. On the weekends, we head out for walks through the neighborhood or along walking trails and we can’t wait to incorporate the kiddie park into our weekend fun! My dogs love kids and are super excited to welcome your child into our lives so they have someone new to play with.

My Career

I was blessed to find a successful career through an internship and have had the pleasure of working for the same company since college. I work for an auto auction that specializes in selling automobiles in the wholesale marketplace through live auction and digital platforms. In my executive management position, I administer three departments that include marketing, event planning, and digital sales. My teammates are an absolute joy to work with and I love seeing their creativity and ideas come to fruition. We are a tenured staff and have had the pleasure of working alongside one another for several years. Our hard work and dedication has proven successful as our company has experienced significant growth over the years. My career is very rewarding, but I know my most important job will be being a mom. I’m lucky that my employer is family oriented, very supportive, and offers flexible hours for working parents including time off for new parents.

Vacations

“Travel is the only thing you buy that makes you richer.” I love to travel and I do so for my soul. Each year, I travel to one or more new destinations and I thrive by immersing myself in new cultures, meeting new people, tasting new foods and experiencing every adventure that destination has to offer. When I return home from a trip, not only do I bring back wonderful memories, but I bring back a fuller, richer heart. It’s the unplanned, spontaneous moments of connecting with people many miles from home that make my heart full.

My travel experiences have helped shape me into the person I am, and I have an appreciation for each place I have visited. I have traveled to more than 10 countries and some of my top adventures include hiking the Swiss Alps, parasailing in the Bahamas, diving in the Caymans, ghost hunting in Scotland, Tipi Glamping in Wyoming, and white water rafting in Yellowstone National Park. There are several more adventures and destinations on my bucket list, and I look forward to sharing my love of travel and exploration with your child. I’m excited to witness how their experiences and adventures give them a fuller, richer heart, along with many wonderful memories that will last a lifetime.

Faith in My Life

I grew up in a religious home and our family culture was to attend church every Sunday and youth group once a week. In the summer, we attended Vacation Bible School. I loved the sense of community this provided for me growing up. In my adult years, I still find great comfort in attending church and being part of the Christian community. I am actively involved in my church and teach a toddler Sunday school class as well as assist in teaching our youth group. Our youth group gatherings are themed events and I thrive on planning and organizing them, whether I’m creating a lesson plan, coming up with crafts, or baking treats that correlate with the lesson. Our youth ministry is important to me and I love seeing the children play and be active while learning the gospel. I plan to give your child a similar foundation built of family culture, a faith community and a Christian upbringing that I appreciate from my childhood.

My Hobbies

Although I have several hobbies, such as gardening and hiking, I enjoy being in the kitchen cooking and baking. I find great pleasure in trying new recipes, but also have my favorites like my weekly pizza night. On the weekends, I start the day with cooking a big breakfast and usually find time to make homemade cinnamon rolls, cookies, cakes and more. When I bake, I do so from scratch and, let me tell you, nothing beats the smell of sweet goodies baking in the oven.

Reading and watching movies are other hobbies I enjoy. Thriller and mystery novels with several plot twists and turns are my favorite books because they keep me on the edge of my seat. Suspenseful and action-packed movies are a must for me and, like my books, I love one that keeps me on the edge of my seat and in suspense during the whole movie.

Sewing has become my newest hobby. When I decided to pursue my dream of motherhood, I began browsing the baby section at every store I visited and realized that some of the selections were not my style. So I came up with a solution. I purchased a sewing machine and taught myself to sew. Thus far, I have made several baby blankets, burp clothes, and crib sheets. I’ve given most of them to friends and family who are expecting a baby and some I’ve kept for the arrival of my own bundle of joy. I’m currently sewing a quilt for my nursery and I can’t wait to wrap my labor of love around your child to keep them warm on a cool fall night.

My Lifestyle

I live a conservative but comfortable lifestyle. Saving money and being financial secure are things I value and I center my lifestyle on building that security. Setting financial goals and being financially responsible are values I believe are extremely important in raising successful adults and I plan to instill these in your child.

Because of my lifestyle choices, I own my home and recently purchased a piece of land with plans to build my dream home in the near future. I also have the luxury to be spontaneous by booking a last minute trip or having the means to visit a destination for weeks instead of days. For me, making memories through weekend getaways, or long vacations lying on the beach or hiking the mountains are more important than most possessions.

Living an active lifestyle and being of service to others is also important to me. Most weekends I am actively working in my yard, walking my dogs, riding my bike or heading off for a weekend getaway. Furthermore, I strive to live a joyful lifestyle by giving and being of service to those less fortunate. My joy to volunteer, has led me to serve on an Advisory Council for a women and children’s homeless shelter, organize fundraising efforts for homeless veterans, and participate in school drives for children in foster care. I value this lifestyle and want to nurture your child’s innate generosity and teach them that they can make positive changes in the world by helping others.

Traditions I Look Forward to Sharing

My family has its own traditions which we observe because they are meaningful and extremely important to us. One of our family traditions is baking Rollie Pollie, a family favorite treat that has been passed down for generations. My mom and I make these sweet, rolled treats for every family gathering and it is custom to arrive early because your chances of securing a slice of Rollie Pollie increase drastically as they are usually long gone before we begin eating dinner.

An early fall tradition I have is spending time in the kitchen canning homemade jams and jellies with fruit harvested from our family grape vines, strawberry plants and fruit trees. I also love making my own spaghetti sauce with our home-grown tomatoes and my grandmother’s egg noodle recipe for the family Thanksgiving dinner.

Christmas is a big deal for me and my traditions include decorating my tree the day after Thanksgiving, looking at neighborhood lights, and attending Christmas Eve service. One of my favorite Christmas traditions began several years ago when I started shopping for strangers rather than buying expensive gifts for my siblings. As adults, we have everything we need and the means to purchase the things we want so one year I decided to adopt a family from the women and children’s homeless shelter I volunteer at. I received a list of wants and needs from the family and experienced the fun of Christmas shopping to make their season brighter. More importantly, I felt better about spending money on them because I was making a difference in their lives. It has become a yearly tradition and I hope to nurture your child’s innate kindness so they continue to carry on the tradition and help those in need.

How I Will Discipline

I believe every child deserves to be raised in an environment that offers them a positive parenting style that focuses on teaching good behavior by using kind but firm parenting techniques. We all know children learn by mimicking others, especially those who are their primary role model, so I will discipline your child by teaching them to do what I say and what I do. I also believe it is extremely important to be consistent with my expectations and offer your child loving guidance so they can learn to manage their emotions and behaviors.

Every night while tucking them into bed, I will reassure the same positive affirmations to them: You are kind. You are strong. You are smart. You are pretty and/or handsome. I am proud of you. And I love you. These positive affirmations will help build your child’s self-esteem and help guide them to become a confident, successful adult.

Why I'm Choosing to Adopt

You might be asking yourself why I chose adoption as a way to start my family. It’s the simplest reason of all: to become a mother. Motherhood has been a desire of mine for most of my adult life and caring for children is in my blood. It is something so deeply ingrained in me that I can’t ignore or run from it any longer.

After a few unsuccessful relationships, I embarked on my own journey to motherhood. With much thought, consideration, and the support of my friends and family I was led to adoption. Two of my cousins and their spouses have adopted seven children so I see adoption as a natural path to start a family. My experience with adoption has shown me that it is a very special way to create a family filled with unconditional love and support.

Becoming an adoptive parent will be my greatest honor and privilege and I know God will connect me with not just a birth mother but the right birth mother for me.

My Promise to You

I promise to be open and honest about the adoption and your child will know your courage, your deep love for them and that you are the first page of their amazing story. I enter this journey with an open heart and an open mind knowing that together we will plan the level of contact that feels right so we find our place in this unique relationship. I will honor and respect whatever decision we make.
