From Us to You

Dear Expectant Mother,

We first and foremost want to thank you. What you are considering must be so hard and your courage is so very inspiring to us. You must be such a strong woman and we would feel blessed to get to know you. We want to assure you that your baby would be loved and cared for with us. We have been waiting for a while to become parents and our dream is almost there. We can’t imagine how or what you are feeling and the difficult decision you are dealing with, but what we do know is that we are here for you along this journey and want to make you feel secure. When you look back we want you to feel at peace with your decision. You would be giving us the best gift we have ever received.

Your little one will grow up in an active, fun, encouraging, and loving home. We love being outdoors and just spending time together. We are each other’s best friend and we can’t wait to add a child to our family. We look forward to Christmas morning when Santa comes, Halloween to trick or treat, and summers by the pool. Those are things we have been waiting to do and now we will get to be a part of it (we’d look pretty funny trick or treating at our ages). We love to laugh and just make the most of every day. We promise that your child will have a wonderful life with many opportunities to be who they are and become the wonderful person they are meant to be. We will be here for them every step of the way.

Raising a child isn’t easy and we know this. We are ready for such a rewarding experience and hope that you will give us that chance.

About Bethany

Bethany is a loving, caring, selfless person who puts her family, friends and pets before herself. She is a wonderful life partner in a world of obstacles and challenges. She is quick to listen to a problem and provide some helpful guidance to make the best decision for her family. She is a well thought out and thorough person. She is non-judgmental and a free thinker. She is always quick to find the positive in a situation, life experience or person rather than looking at the negative. A great example of her character is when she was diagnosed with breast cancer. I witnessed her persistence, determination and unflinching will to defeat this disease and persevere. She remained positive and stuck to her recovery routine while caring for her family, friends and pets throughout the process. She is truly an inspiration to me, cancer survivors and everyone around her. Today she is cancer free, has not forgotten the cancer she had, but has moved past it and has not let it define her.

These are just some of the reasons why I chose to marry, start a family and spend the rest of my life with Bethany.

About Shawn

When I think of Shawn I automatically smile. He has such a warm heart and is an amazing, loving partner. He is my best friend and we share everything with each other. He is always willing to lend a helping hand and works hard to support his family. One of my favorite things about Shawn is his wonderful sense of humor and his ability to make me laugh. He brings me calm and has been a wonderful, supportive husband throughout our marriage. Everyone that meets Shawn automatically feels at ease with him because he has such a welcoming and friendly personality. I look at Shawn and know he will make a wonderful father. He is a kid at heart, loves to try new things, and is always up for an adventure. He also makes a mean breakfast! I knew right from the start we had something special. He always made me right at home and that we could talk about anything. I thank God everyday that I have such a special man to spend my life with.

Our Home

Our beautiful home is situated in a quaint, family friendly neighborhood. Our four-bedroom, two-story home has a large, finished basement which gives us tons of extra room. Our neighborhood is lined with trees, sidewalks and street lights which makes it great for walking and safe for children to play together. The bus stop is even right at the end of our driveway. Our street is a cul-de-sac and you can see lots of kids riding their bikes, playing basketball, or walking their dogs. Our neighborhood has a playground, clubhouse, and pool that we have access to. Families love spending time at the pool in the summer but it never gets too crowded which makes it great to swim. We have made our house a home and put our special touches into it over the past three years. We get excited to decorate the front porch for fall, string up all the Christmas lights, or even grill some burgers on our back patio. Don’t forget about grabbing a popsicle from the ice cream man who drives his truck around in the summer playing fun music.

Our Sweet Dogs

Our two dogs are so very important to us. They are part of our family and we can’t imagine our home without them. Doc, our boxer, was Shawn’s dog and Henry, our chorkie, was Bethany’s dog. When dating we introduced them and immediately they became best friends and brothers. When we walk them, so many people chuckle because one is big and one is little. Doc is 12 years old and Henry is 16 years old. They are older, but we take good care of them and give them lots of love. They are excellent around children and people. We know they would love a little baby too. Both of them are super friendly and everyone who meets them falls in love. We have had get-togethers at our house and they just walk around and greet our guests. Our vet even says they are two of her favorites. It’s hard knowing they are older but again, we are going to keep giving them all our love during their golden years.

Our Family and Friends

Our families are very excited to think we could be welcoming a new family member soon. We are lucky because our families are not too far from us. Bethany’s parents have a home in our area and a home in Florida only an hour from Disneyworld, Universal Studios, and Sea World. Every summer in Florida they have grandchildren weeks with tons of fun activities planned for the kids to do. Bethany has one brother who is married and lives out of state. We are also known as Aunt Bethany and Uncle Shawn to our nephew. We try to see them as much as we can, but when we can’t there is always FaceTime. We are so excited because our sister-in-law is pregnant with a brother for our nephew. Shawn’s family lives about 45 minutes away, and when they aren’t there they spend time at their lake house about 2 hours away. This is a place to get away and enjoy some time on the lake. We get to see them quite a lot in the summer. Shawn has a younger brother and sister. Shawn’s sister is studying to become a nurse, and his brother manages their family business. We also have a nice group of friends who we don’t get to see as often as we like to, but when we do, it is like no time has been lost. A lot of our close friends have children and we can’t wait to be able to join in the fun activities they plan such as birthday parties, zoo camp, trips to the amusement park, or even nights out for putt-putt and ice cream.

Our Lifestyle

It is really hard to summarize our lifestyle because we enjoy so many activities. We live a very active lifestyle. We love to golf, walk, play tennis, ride bikes, and go boating. We love being outside as much as possible. Shawn enjoys cutting the grass, fishing, and working around the house. Bethany enjoys planting flowers, decorating for holidays, and making jewelry and candles. In the fall we go to the pumpkin patch, watch football games, and have our annual Halloween party. Shawn loves Notre Dame Football and faithfully watches the games. Bethany really enjoys going to craft shows to look for items to decorate the house. Near our house there is an annual apple festival that we also attend. We try to travel as much as possible and get away on weekend trips. We have been to places like Washington DC, Columbus, Ohio for the Memorial golf tournament, North Carolina to visit Bethany’s brother, Colonial Williamsburg, and anywhere close enough for a little getaway. Our favorite place we travel is our beach vacation every summer to Hilton Head Island, South Carolina.

Bethany loves music and we always try to attend a few concerts every year. We both love sports so we attend Pirates games, Penguin games, and head to Heinz Field to watch the Steelers. We also play in a couple’s fantasy football league that keeps NFL football interesting. As you can see, your little one will be active and well rounded. We always are up for trying new things and going to new places. Once we have a child this will not stop and we can’t wait.

Why We are Choosing to Adopt

Our journey to adoption has been challenging, however, now that we are in the process, we know God wanted us to become parents this way and we wouldn’t change it for the world. We tried to start our family naturally and without success started our fertility journey. After a year of fertility treatments, Bethany was diagnosed with breast cancer. She is now cancer free and a proud, strong, cancer survivor. Overcoming cancer as a couple has brought us so much closer together. We have a very special bond and now know we can work together to get through life’s obstacles. The doctors gave her a wonderful outlook moving forward, but advised her not to seek anymore fertility treatments or conceive naturally. This is where our adoption journey began. We have always felt being parents is one of the most precious gifts in the world. Through this all, we now know what a true gift this will be. We believe adoption is a wonderful way to grow our family.

Education and Our Careers

Bethany: I am a 2nd grade school teacher and I knew at a young age I was meant to be an elementary teacher. I have always loved working with little kids. In high school I took a child development class and helped with the in-school pre-school, I was a nanny, and I worked at a summer daycare. A few years ago I was also a high school cheerleading coach, so I was able to work with high school students as well. My mom is a retired elementary school teacher, so helping her set up her classroom and seeing what she did let me know that this would be the perfect profession for me. I graduated college and went on to get a Masters in Curriculum and Instruction. Education is very important to us and being in the education field lets me keep up to date on all the new curriculum in schools. I know these past experiences will help me when I become a mom.

Shawn: Education was always very important to my family as I was growing up. I attended a four year university and obtained a Bachelor’s of Science in Business Administration. I started my career as an intern at a local logistics company, eventually accepting my first position as a management trainee. After graduating from the management trainee program, I accepted a position as a Fleet Manager at a trucking company. I have held numerous positions throughout my seventeen year career in logistics including Fleet Manager, Safety Manager, Driver Recruiter, Logistics Specialist, and Account Manager eventually working my way up to the Director of Logistics for a manufacturing company. Supply chain management is a rewarding job in that we are providing an essential service for the world by ensuring food, clothes and goods are delivered to stores on time. I feel this profession is a great fit for me and the family friendly company I work for makes it even better.

Traditions

When we think of our family, we imagine all the wonderful traditions we have learned from our families and the new traditions we will start here in our home. A few traditions we have already started are during the Christmas season. We decorate gingerbread houses together, look for the Christmas pickle, cut down our family Christmas tree at the tree farm, and on Christmas Eve we always eat dinner at our home and attend mass. How can we forget black Friday shopping at the outlets too? That is just a fun way to spend time together and get some holiday shopping accomplished, and who could forget some good food? We honestly can’t wait to start traditions with your child. Our future family traditions will include a daily bedtime routine. Bath, brushing teeth, bedtime stories, and prayers before tucking them in will be an important bonding time for us. We also believe family dinner time every evening, even when schedules are busy, is important. It’s time to put technology and TV aside and talk as a family. Your child will be making special memories and will know they are truly loved.

Our Promise to You

We promise to give your child guidance, support, opportunities, and to love them always. We promise to make them smile daily and know what a gift they are. We promise to educate them on where they came from and communicate to them what a special and courageous woman you are. We promise to guide them and truly be their parent even when being a parent is tough. We promise to make them into a kind, helpful, loving, and independent person. We promise to encourage them and nurture them forever. Our promise to you is that we will never stop being thankful for the special child that will make our family whole. Our promise to you is that you will always know that your child is safe and truly cared for.
