From Us to You

Dear Expectant Mother,

We are Jade and Tori. We can only imagine the difficulty of the decision you are making and we only want what’s best for you and for your child. Our hope is that our family and our love create an environment that fosters joy and support.

We have been married for 7 years. We met at church and have been in love ever since. We work hard on our relationship with each other through honest communication. We do this primarily to make sure our home is a safe place for our children and as an example for them. Family is the most important thing in this world.

We have struggled with fertility our whole marriage and after 4 years of fertility treatments, failed attempts, and 2 miscarriages we were blessed with our son Theo. He was born in March of 2018. He is fun loving and always curious. He loves to meet new people and shares his smile with everyone. A year and a half later through another round of IVF, Zoey entered our lives in November of 2019.

Tori is a stay-at-home mom and she enjoys every minute of it. She loves to spend quality time with Theo and Zoey. She has many talents and hobbies. If she isn’t crocheting she is working on photography or developing her woodworking skills. Tori recently graduated with a Bachelor’s degree in Business Management. Tori’s father was adopted into his family and this has helped drive the desire to adopt. He has been a great resource in understanding what the adoption process is like from the child’s perspective.

Jade works as a manager in the telecommunications industry and has been at his current job for 7 years. When he isn’t at work he is spending as much time as he can with Theo and Zoey and doing what he can to help around the house. He also recently graduated with a Bachelor’s degree in Computer Science. He enjoys playing hide and seek with the kids.

Ultimately we believe family is most important and have structured our lives to fit that purpose. We don’t know what the future has in store for us but we are ready and willing to take on the unknown and work through any and all trials that come our way as we have in the past. We plan to celebrate every blessing and do everything we can to ensure our children get the most out of life.

Thank you,
Tori and Jade

Why We are Choosing to Adopt

We have always wanted a big family. It took us five years of struggling with infertility before we started the process to adopt and try IVF. We were blessed with 2 children through IVF, Theo and Zoey. Unfortunately, Tori had pregnancy and birth complications that increase risks for future pregnancies. Tori always knew growing up that she wanted to adopt because her dad was adopted and her uncle was also adopted. Jade didn’t have experience with adoption while growing up, but was quick to embrace our path to adoption. We believe that adoption is the best way for us to grow our family.

About Tori, by Jade

Tori is a proactive, get it done type of person. She is always making sure that when there is a task to be done that we focus and get it done fully and quickly. She is beautiful and the love of my life. I can’t imagine my life without her. Her love for others and empathy will make her a wonderful mother. She has so many talents, from crochet to cake decorating to photography, she inspires me to be better and increase my own talents. She is able to bring the best out of everyone she interacts with and I’m lucky to have met her.

About Jade, by Tori

Jade is one of the most amazing men I have ever known. He is funny and sweet and cares about those he loves. He is great with children and every time I see him playing with a child or holding a baby it makes me want to grow our family so much. Jade is a very smart person and loves to do anything that has to do with electronics and also loves to play with Zelda, our husky, and Link, our cat. Jade is so amazing with our two little kids. He plays with them every day and even helps me take care of them in any way even though he works all day. His dream days are just being able to stay at home with his family and play with his kids.

How We Met

Jade grew up in Oregon and Tori grew up in Utah. While Jade was on his church mission, Jade’s family moved to the city that Tori lived in. We met when Jade returned from his mission in January 2013 and hit it off. On the ride home after our first date, Jade asked Tori to be his girlfriend. We hung out every day after our first date. We were engaged in February 2013 and got married in August 2013. We moved to Portland for almost 3 years of our marriage. Even though we loved Portland very much, we decided to move back to Utah. We bought a home that is only 10 minutes away from Jade’s family and 1 hour away from Tori’s parents.

Lifestyle

We live a creative lifestyle. Tori is into woodworking, sewing, and other crafts. Jade loves building computers, logical puzzles, and building software. We both love teaching and learning with Theo and Zoey. Theo really likes puzzles and Zoey loves her flashcards. We get together with extended family about once a week where Theo and Zoey get to play with their cousins (ages 3 and younger) while we play board games with their aunts and uncles. Whenever we get together, the kids always manage to get in a game or two of hide and seek with Jade, which is their all time favorite activity.

Home & Neighborhood

We have a rambler style home with 3 bedrooms and 2 bathrooms. We are currently finishing our basement so we can add 3 more bedrooms, 1 more bathroom, and a large play area for the kids. Both our front and back yards are big, which is perfect for our kids to run and play on. Our neighborhood is an amazing place to raise children. We have a lot of neighbors with children of all ages. Our neighbors are always so willing to help us with anything we need.

Diversity

Tori has an adopted uncle that is African American. He has 8 children who Tori spent a lot of time with growing up. She knows that if she needs anything she can go to him for help. Tori also has a couple of cousins that have adopted children from a variety of cultural backgrounds. We know our family will help and support us with anything we need.

Jade’s cousin adopted African American twins a couple of years ago and he knows that he can go to her if he has any questions about life as a multi-racial family.

We live in a good community with great diversity. Multi-racial families are a part of our community and we are less concerned about stigmas. We will utilize as many resources as necessary to ensure our children are comfortable with who they are and are prepared for what waits for them in the world.

Our Families

Tori is the youngest of 3 girls and their family is very close. They do everything they can to help each other through any difficult times, as well as celebrate each other through joyous occasions. They all share in our excitement about our growing family.  Her family likes to get together at least once a month. Jade is the oldest of 2 boys and 2 girls. They have always been super close and his parents only live 10 minutes away from us. Jade’s extended family has a pizza night on the first Tuesday of every month. They have also been very supportive and helpful with our journey, both with our fertility treatment and now as we pursue adoption.

Family Traditions

We enjoy the traditions we have and look forward to more traditions as our family grows. Every Christmas Eve, we look forward to new pajamas. On July 4th, we watch fireworks with our extended family at the gravesite of our niece who passed away from SIDS. This past Halloween, we dressed up in fuzzy onesies as a family.

Outside of holidays, we have a weekly Sunday tradition of starting the day with a big breakfast. We like to switch it up between biscuits and gravy and pancakes. Once a month, we like to go out and catch a movie at the theaters.
