From Us to You

We can’t imagine the decisions you have to make; we know you are making the hardest decision, but you are making it out of love. We are so thankful you have chosen life for your child and whether you choose adoption or not, we are praying for you and your baby.

For as long as we can remember, we have always held a place in our hearts for adoption. Abby’s two cousins were adopted and grew up in a family surrounded by love. We have said many times over the years that we can’t imagine making such an important decision as to who will raise your child. We have always known, if we were ever chosen, we would love unconditionally and always honor our child’s mother. After being blessed with two children, Ella and Ben, we were unable to have any more. We always had dreams of more kids, and believe that adoption was part of the plan for our family. We know we have so much love to give, and have such a supportive and fun family that would be perfect for any child to become a part of.

We are loving, fun and active family! We love showing our children different places. They have been to Disney World and we have taken a cruise to see some islands including St. Thomas and Tortola. We have had family trips to Cape May and the Dominican Republic. We go to Florida a few times a year for some low-key family beach time. We enjoy planning vacations and are currently planning a trip to Niagara Falls this fall and a trip to Arizona next spring. Every fall we go on a camping trip with two other families where we hike, fish, ride horses and have a really good time together.

Our extended family all lives within 30 minutes of us, so we can see grandparents, uncles, aunts and cousins often. We even have two great-grandmothers who we get to see. We have strong support on both sides and often joke that when one of the kids has a school program or big sporting event that our family brings the biggest crowd. Abby’s side has only 1 niece and at 18 months she gives Ella and Ben lots of practice giving hugs, kisses and making her giggle. On Steve’s side we have 5 nephews and 1 niece and lots of uncles and aunts. Holidays are full of big family fun!

Abby’s family has some strong Slovak Christmas traditions that Ella and Ben love helping with. Every December as a family we bake kolachi which is a Slovak pastry made with nuts or poppy seeds. We work with Abby’s mom to bake about 40-50 dozen variety of cookies each year to give to neighbors and friends. We also enjoy icing and decorating sugar cookies. Christmas Eve is one of our most special nights where we have a Slovak dinner that includes Opakansa, dough balls mixed with poppy seeds and cream, Haluski and Chicken Paprikash. We have kielbasa soup and finish with cookies and kolachi before opening gifts and stockings.

Steve’s family is where we spend Christmas Day, and with 8 cousins and lots of food, it is a day full of memories. All the kids get matching pj’s each year and we line them up youngest to oldest for a picture on the steps. Steve’s mom loves crafts and spends time with the kids teaching them new skills. She also makes Nana’s famous sugar cookies for every holiday and every birthday! Throughout the year we have several cookouts, picnics and big breakfasts to make sure we all get to see each other often.

We admire the strength and love you have for your child. We know you are facing such a hard decision. If you do choose adoption and you choose our family, we want you to know we are supportive of open adoption and we look forward to working with you to create a plan that honors and respects the level of openness you are comfortable with. Your child will grow up surrounded by love and support and they will always know the adoption plan was made with love.

With love and prayers for you and your child,
Abby and Steve

Why We are Choosing to Adopt

For as long as we both can remember we wanted to be parents and have a large family. We are blessed with two biological children, but are unable to have any more children by birth. We are beyond thrilled to grow our family through adoption. Our family has prayed for you and your baby from the moment we decided we were ready to adopt. Your child will be so loved and will grow up in a family that puts our children first above everything.

About Abby

Abby is a loving wife and an amazing mom who always puts the children first. Since we started dating I knew she wanted nothing more than to be a mother and have a big family. She helps volunteer at the school and at extra activities like sports and art. Abby loves baking and cooking and has taught both of our kids so much. Already our daughter can make brownies, cookies and macaroni and cheese by herself. Abby loves spending time with the kids, no matter what we are doing, as long as it is together. Abby starts each day making sure our children have a good breakfast and are ready for school. She picks them up after school and they have a snack and work on homework together. Every weekend we try to do something fun in addition to going to church and enjoying some relaxing family time together.

About Steve

Steve is the best dad and husband. Even when I first met him I knew he would be a wonderful dad. He is kind and caring and never too busy to play with Legos or help with a doll house. He works hard to give us such a wonderful life! Even though he works hard, he rarely misses any events for our children. Steve is very handy; he loves working on things, and he always takes time to teach our kids a new skill. Currently the kids and Steve are working on restoring an old Land Rover. He has been to father-daughter dances, he helps at football, soccer and basketball practices and helps when he can at school events. He is a wonderful dad who has always put our children and me first. Steve enjoys the outdoors and makes sure we get to hike, canoe or kayak as often as possible. Every Saturday morning Steve and the kids make a big breakfast of pancakes, French toast or waffles, it’s become a weekly tradition that we all enjoy.

Our Home

Our newly-built house is on a wooded lot with lots of trees and areas to play and explore. There is a small creek that runs in the back and Ben and Ella love looking for tadpoles in it. We love that our home is spacious with four bedrooms. This way Ella, Ben and the new baby will each have their own bedroom!

Our Kids

Ella is very kind and very creative. She loves school, and her favorite class is art! She also loves baking, horses, swimming, tennis, soccer and pretty much anything outside like hiking and kayaking. She is the best big sister and best cousin to the younger cousins in our family. She loves reading to them, teaching them new skills and giving lots of hugs. Ella can’t wait for a baby to join our family.

Ben is sweet, hilarious, athletic and full of energy. His favorite things about school are snack time, recess and gym class. He is passionate about sports with his favorites being soccer and basketball. He loves building with Legos and playing with matchbox cars, trucks and anytime he can dig in dirt! Ben and Ella always include you and your baby in their nightly prayers.

Our Sweet Pup, Lucy

We have one dog named Lucy. She is a small, 10 pound cockapoo who has been hugged and loved on since she was a puppy. She loves walks and playing with her ball in our yard. But mostly she loves cuddling on the couch with our family.

Our Families

We have a great family on both sides. On Abby’s side we have only one niece who is 8-months-old, but our two kids adore her and can’t wait for a baby to join our family. They have had lots of practice giving hugs and kisses and making her giggle! Steve’s side is a little bigger with 5 nephews and 1 niece, and lots of uncles and aunts. The holidays are so much fun! Our entire family is so excited for a baby to join us; they can’t wait. On both sides we enjoy taking family trips, and celebrating birthdays and milestones together. We often joke at a sports event or school play that we have the biggest crowd. We live within 30 minutes of most of our family and get to see them often. We always have the love and support of a grandparent or uncle and aunt when needed. Both sides of our family have strong family traditions. Abby’s side celebrates Slovak and Italian traditions during the holidays. Steve’s side has large family breakfasts and picnics throughout the year. All the grandparents are very active in our children’s lives and we have many great memories with them. Our entire family couldn’t be more excited to have a new baby to love.

How a Child will Enrich our Lives

Our two children have hoped and prayed for a baby brother or sister to join our family since they found out we planned to adopt. We regularly spend time with our two nieces who are 1 and 3, and we could not be more excited for a baby to join our family. Your son or daughter will have the most loving and fun big brother and sister to love them, protect them and definitely make them laugh!

Family Fun Vacations

We love traveling! Our family goes to the beach a few times each year and we always try to plan one big trip each summer. This summer we went on a big extended family trip to Punta Cana- our children loved spending each day with their cousins! At the end of summer, we spent a week in Florida enjoying the beach and a family time. In October we have a camping trip planned with two families and their kids that have been friends of ours for years.

Family Traditions

Both of our families have traditions we continue and we have formed some traditions for own family. Steve’s side of the family loves big family breakfasts and we really enjoy it with our family. Each weekend he and the kids make a big batch of waffles, pancakes or French toast to last the week for breakfasts. Every Christmas we have a large Christmas Day dinner with so many cousins it is pure joy to be a kid! We get together for picnics on Memorial Day, 4th of July and Labor Day. Everyone brings their favorite dish and we all look forward to Aunt Dorris’ pies! Abby’s side of the family has a special Christmas Eve tradition where after going to church with our family we all get together for Christmas Eve dinner and of course some presents too! Abby’s side of the family has always been an outdoors and active family so many hikes and trips include the kids’ grandparents. Together we have formed the New Year’s Eve tradition of spending the night in together as a family. It is filled with board games, movies and lots of crab legs for dinner. We all try to stay awake to watch the ball and confetti drop at midnight. We have spent every Easter in Florida as a family and our kids love the egg hunt they attend each year before church. We make everyone’s birthday special each year. The birthday boy or girl  gets to pick all the meals and all the activities that we do together for the day and, of course, what type of cake we all get to enjoy!

Our Faith

We belong to a Catholic church in our town and our children attend Catholic school. We help volunteer at several school activities throughout the year. Through our church and school, we have made many good friends and everyone is so excited to meet your child once they join our family.

Our Lifestyle

Our lifestyle is all about family time and making fun memories. We have both sides of our family living within 30 minutes of our house, so we see our extended family regularly. Our kids have cousins that they love seeing and playing with. Most days after school we finish homework and a snack and if there aren’t any sports practices, we go outside. Our house is in a traditional neighborhood, but we have an acre to ourselves to play on. We love playing basketball and football, bike rides, hikes, fishing, kayaking, and skiing. We are an active family that enjoys being outside together. If the weather is not nice the kids  usually build forts and tents inside, help Abby bake something or work with Steve on the old Land Rover they have been fixing up. We also love watching movies together. Our daughter dreams of owning a bakery when she gets older, so we  often bake new things to increase our skills. On the weekends if we don’t have any basketball or football games to go to, we usually plan on something fun. We go to church on Sunday, but the rest of the weekend we enjoy doing things together much as we can. Steve and the kids like to fish at Abby’s parents’ lake or when we take a trip to Florida. We go to Florida frequently and enjoy the sunshine and time swimming. We typically plan a family vacation each year with just the four of us. This year it is a trip out west and we are excited to see some mountains. We genuinely enjoy showing our kids many different places and things to do, we encourage their individual interests while still being able to do things together.

What We will Teach Your Child

We will teach your child that they are always loved and supported. We want them to know that they can do and be anything in life that they want if they work hard for it. We will always teach them respect and kindness to all people and to themselves.

Our Careers

We own our own business, and this allows us some flexibility with our schedules. We are a third-generation family business owner, and we bought the business from Abby’s parents 13 years ago. It has been a wonderful decision for us. We work together, but in different roles. Steve is more the face of our business while Abby works in the office. We hope someday our business can be passed down to the 4th generation. Our children know all the people that work along with us. Our employees know that working for us is like joining a large family. We all work together and cover for each other so that no one has to miss school activities for their kids.

Cultural Diversity

We are a family that is open and accepting of all races and ethnicities. We believe all children are special and deserve unconditional love. The church and school our kids attend is very diverse with students and families from many different cultures and different races. The high school we plan to send our children to is also very diverse. The neighborhood we live in is a mix of different races and cultures and we have friends that are also of different races and cultures. Our children play sports with diverse teams with kids of different backgrounds and have friends of different races. We travel frequently and expose our children to as many different cultures as we can.

What We will Tell Your Child

We will always answer every question your child has with honesty and love. We will tell them the story that you want us to share with them, we will tell them how loved they have always been and always will be. We will pass on any stories or traditions you wish to share with us. We will tell them they are part of our family forever and that we have prayed for them long before we even met them. We are open to the relationship you choose. We are open to whatever comfort level you are open to. We will provide you with updates, pictures and calls/letters if you would like. We will always show respect for you and your family because our child is a part of you and we will always cherish that.
