Dear Expectant Mother:

Considering adoption for your child demonstrates the strength and love you have for your unborn baby. I deeply appreciate you taking the time to learn more about me.

I have experienced great love and heartbreak in my life, and those experiences have made me a stronger person. While I am still single, I do believe in love- but my focus right now is on starting my own family. I have always wanted to be a mom and my entire life I have been surrounded by children. I am Godmother to 6 children that I am very close to. I have established myself in my career, and have focused on being financially secure, so I could provide a wonderful life for a child. I have reached the point in my life that I have accomplished so much career wise and now my greater purpose in life is to become a mother.

Adoption is not new to my family as my aunt has adopted two children that I am extremely close to. My aunt and cousins have been a wonderful support through this process, and I know firsthand what living in a beautiful blended adopted family is like. I also have friends who have been adopted and as I grew up surrounded by them, I knew adopting was something I want to do in life.

Family is everything to me and my entire life I was surrounded by a family that welcomed everyone and taught me love. My parent’s divorced when I was younger, but I was very loved by them both and still am today. My father always encouraged my sister and I to study and focus on education so we could have successful lives. My mother was and still is my everything; she was the mother, the father, the teacher, the one who let me crawl in her bed when I was scared, gave me advice but also set the ground rules! I deeply appreciate her. As I face being a single parent, and you consider if that is the right thing for your child, I have thought about a few things. I know what being raised by mostly one parent is like. I have an incredible role model in my mother for the strength, determination and patience it takes to raise children.

While I will love and care for your child with my whole heart I do think it is important as a single mother to provide a child with positive male role models in their lives. I am very close to my brother-in-law who coaches my nieces and nephews’ sports teams and is a wonderful father to his 3 wonderful children. I also have several close friends who are kind, loving, passionate men; some of whom have children and some who don’t. Their careers range from stay-at-home dad and sales rep to deep-sea fisherman and just as their careers vary, so do their ethnicities.

I enjoy traveling. As a child my mom took us all over the world to India, Africa, Europe and places in the US. I plan on doing the same thing with your child. I want them to know the world, see the beauty in different cultures. Experience what food in other places of the world is like, maybe even learn another language. I studied French in college and speak basic French and, in addition, speak some elementary Spanish. My sister is fluent in Spanish. My father is from India and speaks Tamil. We were raised to embrace learning other languages and always be open to experience various cultural traditions around the world.

As you imagine what life would be like for your child with me, I thought I would share with you some of what we would be doing together! I am a major snuggler, my niece and I have earned the nickname “Glommy” in our family because we love to give hugs…so your child would have lots of hugs! I sing out loud in the car, and frequently have dance parties by myself in the kitchen. Music is important to me, so I will be singing in the car with your baby and we will dance a lot laughing at ourselves. We will be outside enjoying the sunshine going on walks, playing at the park and of course going to the beach! My nieces and nephews all play ice hockey, so I am sure they will want to be teaching their cousin to play as well one day.

I have a second home in the Bahamas where we will vacation frequently and where we will dance to reggae music, be at the beach, swim and enjoy dinners with my friends down there whom I consider family! We have big dinners where we cook what the local fish catch of the day is with peas and rice and baked macaroni. Usually the nights end in a game of cards or dominos.

The holidays are typically spent with my entire family: my sister and her kids and our extended family. We are always doing something fun, whether it’s a game of charades, singing along to my mom playing the harmonica or baking all together. This past Christmas, we all picked names out of a hat and had to write a Rap song about another family member. It was hilarious to see everyone perform their Christmas Rap!

It’s hard to put into words the immense gratitude I have for you and I want you to know that your child will always know that they have a first mother who loves them very much. You will always be a positive part of our life in conversation and nightly prayer. You are our biggest gift and blessing, to bring us together. Love, family, honesty, travel, smiles, and fun will be what your child’s future will be filled with.

Tell us about your home and neighborhood.

I live in a residential neighborhood that is quiet and diverse, with many different cultures, ages and types of families. I live in a 3-bedroom home that has lots of room for family members to come and visit. It's bright and sunny which makes me happy. I enjoy spending time walking around my neighborhood going to the local stores and having dinner at nearby restaurants. There is a park on my street with many kids who are out playing and there is also a great community center with a pool. The area is family friendly and is very diverse.

When you have a 3-day weekend, what you like to do?

I love to go to the beach. The shore is close, so I would maybe go on a drive to the beach and enjoy collecting shells, walking along the water and smelling the salt air. I also really enjoy visiting friends and family. I have so many that live close by and I am able to visit them often. My sister and her 3 children live in Massachusetts and I go up there frequently to see my nieces and nephew to cheer them on at their hockey game or celebrate their birthdays and holidays with them.

Do you have pets? If so tell us about them?

No I do not have any pets, however, where I work employees can bring their dogs to work. So I love that I can spend time with dogs at the office.

What do you hope to teach your child(ren)?

A strong moral and ethical foundation of trust, respect and honesty. Unconditional love. Confidence to achieve their dreams. The value of education and importance of curiosity and learning. A faith filled life teaching them of the importance of God in all we do. Diversity and how exposure to various cultures, food, travel, faiths leads to a greater understanding of how others enrich your life.

What will you tell your child about his or her birthmom?

That she is strong, courageous and full of love, truly an angel. I will tell her child about her love for them and that she gave us the best gift of our life together.

Are you active in your church? Tell us about your activities.

I regularly attend my church but am not active in other activities within the congregation.

How will a child enrich your life?

I have so much love to give. I have always wanted to be a mother. I grew up with a large, extended family with so many cousins. I was always around children and my sister has 3 children of her own that I am extremely close to. My mother raised my sister and me mostly on her own. My father wasn’t present often due to work. She taught me what unconditional love and protection is. I have been so blessed with an amazing career and financial stability, but life is so much more than that. A child would provide me with a greater purpose in life, someone to care for everyday, more than myself, as my mother did for my sister and me. I have seen and traveled the world, learned to speak some foreign languages and I want to share that with your child. I want to give them the experiences that encourage them to be their best self and live a full and happy life. I grew up in a mixed-race household. So, to me, being able to pass along to a child the incredible opportunities the world has to offer would be incredible. This would be the greatest blessing I could ever ask for, and truly be the best gift.

Describe your last vacation and/or day trip

I regularly go to the Bahamas. I have a second home there and it really is my place to escape, relax and I feel so fortunate that I have a community of friends down there which I consider family. I have been going down to Grand Bahama Island since I was 10 years old. I grew up there enjoying summer vacations. The last trip I went down and visited with friends, I enjoy going snorkeling, for walks on the beach collecting shells and listening to the steel drum bands play in the local square where families come to have dinner and enjoy the local music. It was a wonderful vacation and I can’t wait to also share this very special place with my future child so we can build memories of our own there.

Will you be a stay-at-home parent? If so, what are your day-to-day plans?

Yes, I do plan to go back to work. For childcare, I will have my mother watch the baby during the week for the first few months. After that I plan on enrolling your child in a local day care program while I am at work during the day. I do want your child to socialize with other children to adapt and build a community of friends even at a young age.

When you close your eyes and see yourself holding your precious baby in your arms, what are your thoughts regarding his or her birth mother?

Immense gratitude. I will be so appreciative that they gave me the best gift I could ever receive. I will be thankful for their trust in me to protect and love their child and raise them to be a strong loving individual. I will think about how selfless and brave their mother is to put their child before themselves and I will be thanking God for bringing them into my life.
