From Us to You

First and foremost, we want to thank you for making the incredibly brave and selfless consideration to place your child with us. We are so thankful for the opportunity to grow our family, and we feel truly blessed to be considered by you. Please know that we will give your child a supportive, nurturing, loving home surrounded by a close-knit family who will bend over backwards to make sure your baby is happy, healthy, and safe. We cannot begin to imagine what you are going through while making this decision, but rest assured that your child will know how brave their mother was.

We have known each other for 15 years. When we were young, we were active together in karate, band, and other academic programs. We didn’t begin dating until after high school, but we immediately fell in love and married in 2015. After learning of some medical issues that would make it difficult, if not impossible to conceive, we decided that this may have been God’s way of telling us to pursue adoption. We live in a rural community in Tennessee – the same town where both of our immediate families live. The people here are kind and welcoming. Our town holds several festivals and parades every year, as well as a local farmers market every week in the summer. We live on Elizabeth’s family’s farm where we are the third generation to live in the home her grandparent’s built. We both teach high school, so we have a schedule that can be centered around our children. Will also works part-time as an RN, so he is current on all CPR and first aid certifications. Though neither of us will be staying at home full-time, all school breaks, holidays, and summers will be spent adventuring and learning together as a family.

Will is ready to show our child how to grow carrots in Tennessee soil, how to always win at Mario Kart, and how to build the best Dungeons and Dragons character. Elizabeth can’t wait to help your child grow their library, latch-hook the most beautiful rug for their own room, and how to love and nurture all living creatures. We are so excited to impart our love of music on him/her. Picking out his/her first instrument will be such an exciting time! If your child happens to be more athletic than us, we will learn everything we can and be present at every practice, game, or scrimmage cheering at the top of our lungs. Whatever makes your child happy and successful will always be our priority.

We have so many traditions in our family that we want to share with a child. Holidays are kid-centered events with Elizabeth’s extended family. Egg hunts and Christmas games are made specifically for all the littles, and your child would always be a part of that. In Will’s family, birthdays are grand celebrations. We plan to continue celebrating with special appearances from “Happy the Birthday Clown” which was started by Will’s grandmother when he was a small child. Annual Disney World vacations have been a part of our life since we began dating, and we want to share that love of imagination, wonder, and magic with your child. This is only a small sample of the life we plan for your child, but we hope to never stop creating memories that will last a lifetime.

Our prayer for you is that you find peace, hope, and compassion. Should our lives forever be intertwined through adoption, we will always support your journey and provide you and your baby with nothing short of unconditional love and gratitude.

Why We are Choosing to Adopt

We knew we wanted to be parents as soon as we got married, but we decided to wait until we were more settled and prepared to begin actively trying. During our third year of marriage, we bought and moved into the home that Elizabeth’s family built on their family farm. It was already such a family-friendly home, but we worked to update it and make it more spacious for a growing family. When we discovered that we were unable to grow our family in the way we had initially expected, we began exploring many options for starting our family. We ultimately decided on adoption.
We received our first match after 6 months of waiting, but 3 months later, the expectant mother made the decision to parent. We were sad for us, but so happy for the two of them. We have remained in contact with her and have celebrated her and her child. This entire process, though challenging, has reassured us that adoption is exactly how we want to grow our family – without any doubts. We have learned so much through parenting courses, research, and seeking out advice from other biological and adoptive parents. We have not ‘wasted’ any time while trying to grow our family, and we feel like we have grown during this journey.

About Elizabeth, by Will

When Elizabeth and I began dating, I remember being so overwhelmed.  I was overwhelmed at how compassionate she was.  She gives so much of herself to every life she touches.  She gives her time to her students, creating after-school clubs and competitive academic groups for her students to thrive in as they pursue their passions.  I remember being overwhelmed by her wit and intelligence.  Elizabeth is, without a doubt, the most brilliant person I’ve ever known.  The way her mind works is baffling, and she uses her incredible intellect to make everyone around her see the world in a more exciting way, be it her family or her students.  Most of all, however, I remember being overwhelmed by how at home I felt with her.  Elizabeth is the best friend I could have ever asked for.  She listens to me when I need to get something off my chest, laughs at my horrible puns and (soon-to-be) dad jokes, and makes me feel like I have a safe place to be myself.  It is so rare that people find their perfect other half, their soul mate.  I am beyond blessed to have found that in Elizabeth.  Now, as Elizabeth and I move forward in our hopes of growing our family, I rest confidently knowing that any child brought into our home will be raised by the most brilliant, kind, loving woman I’ve ever had the pleasure of spending the rest of my life with.

About Will, by Elizabeth

Will is, above everything, my best friend. When we were younger, we were active in similar activities. We took karate lessons from the same studio, we were both in band in school, and we were both on the academic team in high school. During this time, I was fascinated with his enormous personality and hilarious sense of humor. We didn’t begin dating until after high school, but Will was everything I could have imagined and more. I had never met such a genuine person, and I immediately fell in love. Everyone who meets Will becomes a friend. He is the kindest soul I’ve ever known, and loving him is the best part of my life. I can never stay upset with him, because he always finds a way to make me smile – even when that is the last thing I want to do. He is weird and nerdy in the most beautiful ways. I love watching him get excited about a new video game or his garden coming to life. I can’t wait to watch him become a father and fall even more in love.

Our Relationship with You

We want to build a genuine relationship with you. We know that you have the most difficult role in the adoption triad, and we respect that whole-heartedly. We will honor each and every decision you make throughout the process. We would love an open relationship and adoption, but will support you even if you would prefer a more closed adoption. We want you as the birth mother to guide us through how and when you want your child’s story told. We are very open and honest people, and we are excited to begin a journey with you.

Lifestyle

We are both teachers at the same school. During the work week, we start our days early by enjoying breakfast together then heading to work. When we get home from work, we tend to the rabbits, then either walk the dogs or play with them in the back yard. After playtime, Will cooks dinner and Elizabeth tidies up. Some of Will’s favorites to cook include tacos, pork, or pasta dishes. After dinner, we relax together by watching reality or crime/horror TV shows or playing games – our absolute favorite game to play is Monopoly. We use the weekends to visit with family and friends, go out to dinner or watch Disney movies or musicals at home. Some of our other favorite weekend activities include visiting zoos, aquariums, nature parks, and arcades. A shared love of ours is music and we play music together whenever possible. Elizabeth plays the flute and piano, and Will plays the saxophone. We love playing together and we are excited to pass down our love of music to your child.

Home & Neighborhood

We live in a brick farmhouse built by Elizabeth’s grandparents in 1976. We bought it from Elizabeth’s aunts and uncle in 2018, and we’ve spent the last few years updating and renovating it to make it our own. Our home is on a 40-acre farm surrounded by love, family, animals, and adventure. It is very common to see deer, squirrels, and other wildlife while sitting on our back porch. We live on a corner lot, so our closest neighbors are two acres away. The neighborhood itself is full of families that have lived in the area for generations, so we are familiar with most of our neighbors. Our small town hosts festivals every winter and spring with parades and carnivals. Both of our immediate families live within 10 minutes of us. The community is made up of mostly small, family owned businesses and restaurants, so it’s very familiar and welcoming.

Our Pets

We are huge animal lovers! We have four dogs – two lab mixes, a basset hound, and an Italian greyhound. The dogs range in age from 4-10 years old. We love taking them on trips with us and playing and snuggling with them around the house. We have a 4 year old cat who is so sweet and loving to us and the dogs – though she tends to keep to herself around the house. We also have 7 rabbits that live in our garden in a rabbit condo handmade by Will. We live on a part of a large farm that has belonged to Elizabeth’s family for generations and, though they aren’t pets, we see so much wildlife on a daily basis – birds, rabbits, squirrels, deer, and even the occasional fox. We would love to expand with more animals in the future and build our mini-farm. All of our pets are fully-vetted and have been around children their whole lives.

Our Careers

Though we are both teachers now, neither of us started out as teachers. Will got his registered nursing license and was working as a nurse in a hospital when we met. Elizabeth got her bachelor’s degree in chemistry and worked as a forensic chemist in a crime lab before transitioning to teaching. She loved the job and the students, and she eventually convinced Will to come to work with her, though he still works part-time at a nursing home. We absolutely love our jobs and feel like we are truly living our passion even if it took us a few years to find it.

Racial & Cultural Diversity

The high school where we work is in a very culturally and ethnically diverse community. We have done multiple diversity and sensitivity trainings through the school system and privately for this adoption. Working with such a diverse group of students, we have learned so much and have had our hearts and minds opened to a wide world of cultures. We have made it a priority to fill our nursery with books and toys that promote diversity. No matter the race or ethnicity of your child, he/she will be surrounded by people who are eager to embrace his/her culture and heritage. We intentionally fill our lives with diverse and open-minded friends, and Elizabeth’s extended family includes people of many different ethnicities and backgrounds.

Our Families & Friends

Elizabeth’s mother and brother live right next door, while her father lives less than an hour away. Elizabeth has a very large extended family spread out over three states with two aunts, two uncles, 7 cousins, 9 cousins-once-removed, and 9 cousins-twice-removed. As large as her family is, they are very close and all get together at least 5 or 6 times a year. Will’s family is much smaller. His mother, father, and sister live less than 10 minutes away. He has a grandfather, an aunt, and an uncle who all live within an hour from us. They are very close and visit with each other at least twice a month. While our family is very excited to welcome a new family member, we also have very close friends that are excited, as well. Our closest friends live about 5 minutes from us. They have a five year old daughter, and all five of us love to get together for holidays, movie nights, or just impromptu dinners. We have so many people in our lives that will love and cherish a child.

Family Traditions

We have several long-standing traditions as a family – most of which revolve around holidays and celebrations. We host Thanksgiving for both of our immediate families at our house each year. This has become Will’s favorite tradition as he has gotten to expand his cooking and hosting skills. He has perfected his “bread cornucopia” but he is still working up to the main attraction – the turkey. He hopes to be able to recreate his father’s delicious fried turkey for his child one day. Each year at the beginning of December, Elizabeth’s family has a huge Christmas party filled with fun and games. Some of the favorite games that get played each year are the Ornament Relay Race, Pin the Nose on Rudolph, and Christmas Trivia. Each game has an adult and a child version so the children always feel included and important. The day after Christmas, we take a trip to Disney World with Will’s family and stay there through the New Year. We love looking at the beautiful holiday lights and decorations. Our favorite attractions that we make a point to experience each time we are there are Space Mountain, Jungle Cruise, and The Haunted Mansion. We are hopeful that this child – being the first grandchild on both sides – will bring new traditions into the family as well.
