Dear Expectant Mother,

Words cannot express how immensely grateful we are for the priceless gift you are considering to share with us! We can only imagine how hard the decision must have been for you to place your baby for adoption and we are filled with admiration for your selflessness and courage in making this choice. However, it cannot be easy, and we sympathize with the pain this must cause you. We promise you that we will raise your child in the most loving, supportive, safe and financially secure home we can provide. Your baby will never be deprived of love, care or opportunities, and will always have our support, no matter who they grow up to be or what they want to do in life. Our families prioritized our education above all else, which is why we have been successful in life. Shubham’s mother is a famous, Indian, classical singer and Dekila’s grandfather was a great Tibetan artist. Your child will always have the best education opportunities, including music and art classes. Since Shubham loves to play sports, we can confidently throw team sports into this mix as well!

Both of us come from humble backgrounds and have experienced challenging circumstances in our life. We know what it feels like to sacrifice and to struggle to achieve our goals. It makes us appreciate each and every day we have together and we long to share the blessings we have received with a child. Once we knew we were embarking on this journey to adopt a child, we decided to leave California and move to a town in Wisconsin that is famous for their close community life, vibrant arts and music, and popular college sports, because of our strong network of friends here. Both of us have job flexibility and can work from home a couple of days a week. Dekila runs an award-winning initiative and Shubham works in the IT business sector. We have several close family friends who live within five minutes of us. Shubham’s mother travels from India for up to six months every year and is looking forward to becoming a grandmother very much. Your baby will grow up being serenaded to by a professional singer. They will learn to speak several languages and will play with children from all parts of the world. They will attend a national, award-winning elementary school, and when they are older, they will travel to other countries with us. They will always have a dog to call a best friend and will spend their summers and autumns picking berries from their own back yard and hiking and kayaking in the nearby lakes.

We pray for your happiness and well-being and hope that only wonderful things come your way. We promise to tell your baby as they grow up how lucky they are to have a birth mom who loves them so much that she prioritized their happiness and well being first. We will reassure your child that you went searching to find us specially for them and remind them always that you have an enormous amount of heart, spirit and courage, and we hope they inherit these qualities from you.

Q&A

Tell us about your home and neighborhood.

In the past five years, we moved from the East Coast to West and recently moved back east to Wisconsin because we wanted a home with a garden, a loving community of friends and neighbors, and a much more relaxed lifestyle for ourselves as parents of our child. This area gives us all of these wonderful opportunities. We have a lovely, 4-bedroom home in a quiet neighborhood within a few minutes of several friends and Dekila’s office as well. We are a few minutes’ walk from two parks and a short drive from beautiful lakes where we like to take our dog and where we like to kayak. We share recipes, seedlings and sourdough starters with our neighbors. Our garden has mature fruit trees and we put in raised vegetable beds the moment it was warm enough this spring! It’s important to us that we have a warm and welcoming home that is large enough to host guests for as long as they would like to stay, and to throw large dinners for our friends and family. We both enjoy cooking food from different cultures so there’s usually something delicious smelling in the kitchen. At least one meal a day is eaten together and is healthy and cooked from scratch. We always have a space at the table for guests who could be family, friends who’ve dropped by or faith leaders that Dekila works with. Our home has hundreds of books, a handful of plants (we enjoy gardening and growing our own herbs) and a rare collection of antique and modern artwork that Dekila inherited from her mother or collected over the years. We almost always have music playing in the background and sometimes, Shubham will sing along as well. And, oh yes – we have a very happy small dog.

Tell us about your families

Shubham comes from a close-knit family; his mother and sister live in India, but we visit each other or vacation together at least twice a year. His mother usually visits us at least once a year and is looking forward very much to spending up to six months with us and being there to help after your child arrives in our home. Shubham’s sister also plans to visit us during that time. Shubham has two uncles in New York and Washington DC, both of whom have children, and whom we stay with when we visit the East Coast. Shubham is particularly close to his little cousins and they look up to him a lot. We know that they are very excited about this next phase of our lives and have started planning a large family reunion vacation in the following year. Dekila’s parents passed away a long time ago, but she is very close to her maternal uncles and aunts and tries to visit them once a year in the Himalayan mountains of northeast India. Her youngest aunt, who helped raise Dekila, visits and stays with us twice a year at least and will also be here to welcome the baby and help. Dekila has a younger sister in DC who visits us very often and who will fill in the gaps in the first year if we need any help. Dekila has a large network of cousins and close friends in the US who are a big part of our lives. Dekila’s best friend of 25+ years lives in Ohio, and we often vacation together in the summer. We are lucky to have lots of close friends here in Wisconsin, who we spend a lot of time with, and several of whom have children or grandchildren.
