From Us to You

We are Amber and Dan from the mountains of Colorado. We think about you often. We imagine this is a confusing and difficult time for you as you try to figure out what is the best option for you and your baby. Please know that we are here for you and that we honor and respect you. We want to support you through this journey. We have so much love to give and are so excited to grow our family through adoption.

What will life for your child look like with us?
Your child will be loved unconditionally. We will laugh together often, eat dinner together as a family nightly, celebrate successes, and learn from our mistakes. We will support each other during good times and challenging times. We are fun-loving, creative, and adventurous. We live in beautiful Colorado and spend much of our time enjoying the wilderness, mountains, and rivers within minutes of our home. We love to create memories with our family and friends who have children.

With your child, we look forward to:
★ our first camping trip together
★ the first time he/she sits on our lap to row our raft down the river in our town
★ riding the ski lift together to teach him/her to snowboard at our local ski area
★ cross-country skiing and sledding together
★ playing together in the yard with our Saint Bernard, Kiera, and our kitten, Polly
★ building a cousin bond with our niece and nephew who live two doors down
★sleepovers at Grandma’s house next door or at Grandpa’s ranch down the road
★ playing with clay in our pottery studio or building something out of wood in our woodworking shop
★ riding bikes together on the river trail or mountain biking trails surrounding our town
★ planting vegetables together in our geodesic growing dome
★ skateboarding together with the neighborhood kids at the local skatepark
★ going on road trips together in our RV to travel to the ocean and beautiful places around the country.

We have wanted to have children together ever since we met. We were unable to conceive and are excited to grow our family through adoption. Our careers have allowed us to follow our passions while having a work-life balance. Our schedules allow us time to spend with family enjoying travel and the activities we love. Working at the local elementary school, Amber has holidays and summers off and Dan has a flexible schedule. We plan to both spend time at home once we bring a baby into our lives and look forward to having a stay-at-home parent for the first few years.

If you decide to make a birth plan with us, we want to assure you that we promise to respect you and whatever level of openness you want to have with your child. We want you to be a part of your child’s life so that he or she can have an understanding and appreciation for the tremendous sacrifice that you made out of love. When we adopt a child we are growing our family more than just the child. Your child will always know the love you have for him/her.

We appreciate you. Thank you!

All our love,
Amber and Daniel

About Dan

Dan is a kind, caring, and honest man. His creative mind and humorous spirit are contagious. He is outgoing, makes everyone feel unique, and wears his heart on his sleeve. Dan often volunteers his time on the weekends building skateboard features for local charities and youth organizations. Dan grew up in the Midwest and always had a dream of moving to the mountains or the ocean. He spent some of his young adult life in both places and settled into the mountain lifestyle. He worked in the ski industry for many years as a SnowCat operator, building terrain parks at the local ski area. Dan has always had a talent for working with his hands and started his own business as a carpenter eleven years ago. His business has grown to be successful and profitable. With owning his own business, Dan has the flexibility to take holidays and weeks off in the summer so we can travel as a family. Dan looks forward to taking extended time off to be a stay-at-home dad for the first few years after bringing your baby home. He loves to spend time with his niece and nephew, playing games and reading to them. During Dan’s free time he loves to spend time with his family, skateboarding, snowboarding, riding dirt bikes, playing hockey, playing guitar, and surfing in our local river.

About Amber

Amber is a strong, determined, independent woman. She sees the good in people and has a strong empathy for others. She is always up to learning something new. Amber grew up in a small, mountain town in Colorado with her brother and parents. She grew up spending her time outdoors playing with kids in the neighborhood, riding her bike, camping, rafting, and traveling with her family. She has always had a passion for working with children and went to school to become a teacher. She has had years of training in social emotional education and restorative practices. She has taught 3rd and 5th grades and spent some time in Honduras teaching 2nd grade. Amber loves to coach Girls on the Run. She recently earned her Master of Arts degree and got her principal license. She is now the Principal at the local elementary school where our children will go to school. Amber likes to spend her free time with her niece and nephew, cozying up to read a book, spending time in her pottery studio, mountain biking, rafting, or camping.

Our Home and Neighborhood

We live in a small mountain town in Colorado. We decided to buy our home in this town because Amber has worked in the schools here for fifteen years and we fell in love with the close-knit community. We have a beautiful yard with apple and plum trees, a geodesic growing dome for growing food year-round, a woodworking shop, and our pottery studio is right next door at Amber’s mom’s house. We bought the house just two doors down the street from Amber’s brother and his family. Having our five-year-old niece and infant nephew so close is a dream come true. We are so excited for your child to have his/her cousins so close! The streets and parks are filled with kids riding bikes and playing together. Your child will be able to ride bikes or walk to the quality neighborhood schools. For family adventures, we can drive in any direction and be in the high mountains or in the desert in less than an hour.

Our Sweet Dog and Kitty

We have a Saint Bernard named Kiera. She is a gentle giant and is amazing with our niece and nephew. Her nickname is “Nanny” because when our niece and nephew are over she doesn’t leave their side. She even sleeps in their room during sleepovers! She loves to carry her stuffed animals around with her, even when she is camping, skiing, or rafting with us!

We have a kitten named Polly. She is a polydactyl and has large paws with extra toes. We brought Polly into our family because we wanted Kiera to have a companion. They spend a lot of time playing together and cuddling with each other. Polly loves to sit on top of Kiera’s back. We often call her our other dog because she acts more like a dog than she does a cat.

Our animals are a big part of our family!

Our Families

Family and friends are a major part of our lives.

Amber’s family lives close by and we spend a lot of time together cooking, rafting, skiing, hiking, and playing games in the yard. We are excited for your child to be able to run right next door to see Nana and Grando (Amber’s mom and stepdad), to play with his/her cousins, or to have time with his/her aunt and uncle just two doors down. We can’t wait to spend weekends with them at Grandpa’s (Amber’s dad) ranch just a half-hour away.

We look forward to family road trips to see Dan’s family in Iowa. When in Iowa we love to spend time watching movies, doing puzzles, going on walks, walking around the city, and visiting the botanical gardens. As a family, we will also look forward to the visits that Dan’s family makes to Colorado.

We enjoy spending time rafting and camping with our friends and their children. We believe it takes a village to raise a child and your child will have a loving and accepting village!

About Us

We met through mutual friends while we were rafting during our town’s river festival. Our love for each other grew quickly as we started sharing our passion for being outside and cooking together. We connect over our mutual love for being active and enjoying the surrounding wilderness. We strive to communicate well and work through challenges in life together. Our strong love for each other and humor keep us happy and laughing. Dan asked Amber to marry him on a rafting and camping trip with friends and family. We got married with a small group of our closest friends and family where we had one of our first dates at 12,000 feet above sea level in a gorgeous mountain basin where the mountains kiss the sky. Our next adventure is to grow our family through adoption. It brings tears to our eyes as we write these words to you. We are so excited to be parents. We will be loving and supportive parents for your child throughout his/her entire life.

Our Lifestyle

We strive to have a balanced lifestyle. We like to eat well by buying local meat raised by 4-H students that Amber works with and by growing a lot of our own vegetables. We love to spend time cooking together. We both grew up eating dinner around the dinner table with family, have continued to do this as a couple, and will have nightly family meals around the table with your child. During the weekends we like to spend time around our home being creative in the art studio or woodworking shop. We also like to go on adventures in the mountains on the weekends. We fell in love in the mountains, said “I do” in the mountains, and will spend a lot of time together in the mountains as a family. We both plan to take time off when we bring a child home and Dan looks forward to taking extended time off to stay home with them. Amber has holiday weeks and summers off of work and looks forward to spending this time together as a family. Amber having the same schedule as our children once they are of school age is very important to us!

Why We are Choosing to Adopt

We want nothing more than to have children. After struggling with infertility, we knew adoption was meant to be our path to building our family. Through adoption, not only can we gain a child(ren), but we have love to offer to you, their birth parent(s), too. We see adoption as a challenging journey that has a beautiful outcome. Bringing a child(ren) into our family to love and support would mean the world to both of us. We would love to someday have multiple children so they can experience to joy of having siblings. We have very supportive families and friends who are excited for us to bring a child home.

Our Vacations

We are lucky to live where we do. It makes every week feel like a vacation when we are enjoying our beautiful region. With this being said, we still love to travel to new places to explore and learn about different cultures. We love to take multiple day rafting trips and camp on the river. We love to drive high into the mountains or deep into the desert with our RV to camp. We always enjoy visiting family in Iowa, Texas, Michigan, Indiana, New Jersey, Wisconsin, and New York. One of our favorite vacations was a road trip for our honeymoon to California to surf. Amber has traveled many times to places in Mexico and Central America. Dan has traveled to many places in Mexico and Europe. We look forward to sharing our passion for travel and exploring with your child. Once we grow our family through adoption, we look forward to taking a few months to explore Baja in our RV as a family!

Our Family Traditions

We love to cook together and sit down together for dinner every night. This is an intimate opportunity to hear about each other’s days. We have a tradition of sharing three things we are grateful for before we begin eating. This is a tradition that helps us see the positive in our days even if we had a rough day. We look forward to continuing this tradition with your child. Teaching optimism is important to us.

One of our favorite holiday traditions is cutting down a tree in the local national forest. We pick the tree out together and cut it down together. Once we get home we drink eggnog, listen to Christmas music, and decorate the tree with ornaments that we have collected throughout our lives. We look forward to sharing this tradition with your child and hiking into the woods together to hunt for the perfect tree.

Racial and Cultural Diversity

We enjoy learning about and celebrating different cultures both locally and through our travels. The uniqueness of people around the world is what makes it a beautiful place. We have friends and family members of different ethnicities and with many different cultural backgrounds. We have family members who have been on different parts of the adoption triad. Your child’s culture will be something we learn about so we can share it with them. His or her culture is something to be proud of and celebrated. It is important to us that we teach them acceptance, tolerance, and love. Differences should be celebrated. In our house, we believe kindness is everything.

Our Promise

Our Promise to You

We promise to cherish and love your child with our whole hearts. We promise to provide a safe, happy home and a life full of opportunities. We promise to provide an upbringing focused on values of kindness, generosity, resiliency, and respect for others. We promise to surround your child with love and acceptance from us, our family, and our friends. We promise to respect you every step of the way. We will respect the level of openness you are comfortable with and we will always hold you in a positive light. You are as much a part of your child’s adoption story as we are and we promise to never forget that.
