From Us to You

We think of you often and it brings tears to our eyes as we write these words to you. We are so excited to be parents and we will love and support your child throughout our entire lives. We have so much love to give and should you decide that adoption is the best option for you and your baby, it would be our honor to love and support you on this journey.

It has always been our dream to have children together. We have been unable to have children and our desire to welcome a child into our family is more important to us than having a biological child.

What will life for your child look like with us? Your child will be loved unconditionally. We will laugh together often, eat dinner together as a family nightly, celebrate successes, and learn from our mistakes. Your child will be supported during the good times as well as the challenging times. In our family, we are fun-loving, creative, and adventurous. Our home is in beautiful Colorado and where we spend much of our time enjoying the wilderness, mountains, and rivers that are just minutes from our home. We love creating memories with our family and friends, and our friends’ children.

With your child, we are looking forward to:
★ our first camping trip together
★ the first time he/she sits on our lap to row our raft down the river in our town
★riding the ski lift together to teach him/her to snowboard at our local ski area
★ cross-country skiing and sledding together
★ playing together in the yard with our Saint Bernard, Kiera, and our kitten, Polly
★ building a cousin bond with our niece and nephew who live just two doors down from us
★ sleepovers at Grandma’s house next door or at Grandpa’s ranch down the road
★ playing with clay in our pottery studio or building something out of wood in our woodworking shop
★ riding bikes together on the river trail or mountain biking trails surrounding our town
★ planting vegetables together in our geodesic growing dome
★ skateboarding together with the neighborhood kids at the local skate park
★ going on road trips together in our RV to travel to the ocean and beautiful places around the country.

Our careers have allowed us the flexibility to enjoy our passions while having a work-life balance, which allows us time to spend with family, travel, and enjoy the activities we love. Working at the local elementary school, Amber has holidays and summers off and Dan has a flexible schedule so we will have lots of time to devote to your child. We both plan to spend time at home once we bring a baby into our lives and your child will have a stay-at-home parent for their first few years.

Should you choose us to bless with your child, we promise to always respect you and the level of openness you desire to have with your child. We want you to be a part of your child’s life so that he or she can understand the tremendous love you have for them.

Thank you! All our love,
Amber and Daniel

About Dan

Dan is a kind, caring, and honest man. His creative mind and humorous spirit are contagious. Dan will be an amazing father because he makes everyone feel unique, is always up for learning something new, and wears his heart on his sleeve. Dan often volunteers his time on the weekends building skateboard features for a local youth organization that provides an inclusive, safe space for youth by providing passion-based exploration through creative expression, mentorship, and leadership opportunities. Dan grew up in the Midwest and always had a dream of moving to the mountains or the ocean. He spent some of his young adult life in both places and settled into the mountain lifestyle. Dan has always had a talent for working with his hands and started his own business as a carpenter eleven years ago. His business has grown to be successful and profitable which allows him the flexibility to take time off during the holidays and several weeks off during the summer so we can travel as a family. Dan looks forward to being a stay-at-home dad for the first few years of your child’s life. He loves to spend time with his niece and nephew, playing games and reading to them. During Dan’s free time he loves to spend time with his family, skateboarding, snowboarding, riding dirt bikes, playing hockey, playing guitar, and surfing in our local river.

About Amber

Amber is a strong, determined, independent woman. She will be a great mom because sees the good in people, has a strong empathy for others, is patient, kind, and natural with children. Amber grew up in a small, mountain town in Colorado with her brother and parents. She grew up spending her time outdoors playing with kids in the neighborhood, riding her bike, camping, rafting, and traveling with her family. She has always had a passion for working with children and went to school to become a teacher. She has taught 3rd and 5th grades and spent some time in Honduras teaching 2nd grade. Amber loves to coach Girls on the Run, a running program that inspires girl empowerment by building confidence and kindness. She recently earned her Master of Arts degree and got her principal license. She is now the Principal at the local elementary school where your child will go to school. Amber likes to spend her free time with her niece and nephew, cozying up to read a book, spending time in her pottery studio, mountain biking, rafting, or camping.

Our Home and Neighborhood

We live in a small, tight-knight community in Colorado. We have a beautiful yard where your child can play in the sandbox, swing, play catch in the grass and feed the fish in the greenhouse pond. Your child would learn how to build a birdhouse with Dan in the woodworking shop and throw a bowl in the pottery studio with Amber. Your child will cozy up by the fireplace in our living room to read books or watch a movie as a family. We want our house to be the home where the neighborhood kids play and have sleepovers. Our house is just two doors down the street from Amber’s brother and his family. Having our five-year-old niece and infant nephew so close is a dream come true. We are so excited for your child to have his/her cousins so close!

Our Sweet Dog and Kitty

We have a Saint Bernard named Kiera. She is a gentle giant and is amazing with our niece and nephew. Her nickname is “Nanny” because when our niece and nephew are over she doesn’t leave their side. She even sleeps in their room during sleepovers! She loves to carry her stuffed animals around with her, even when she is camping, skiing, or rafting with us!

We have a kitten named Polly. She is a polydactyl and has large paws with extra toes. We brought Polly into our family because we wanted Kiera to have a companion. They spend a lot of time playing together and cuddling with each other. Polly loves to sit on top of Kiera’s back. We often call her our other dog because she acts more like a dog than she does a cat.

Our animals are a big part of our family!

Our Families

Family and friends are a major part of our lives. Amber’s family lives close by and we spend a lot of time together cooking, rafting, skiing, hiking, and playing games in the yard. We are excited for your child to be able to run right next door to see Nana and Grando (Amber’s mom and stepdad), to play with his/her cousins, or to have time with his/her aunt and uncle just two doors down. We can’t wait to spend weekends with them at Grandpa’s (Amber’s dad) ranch just a half-hour away.

Dan’s family lives in Iowa and we enjoy road trips to see them and can’t wait to make it a family road trip. When in Iowa we love to spend time watching movies, doing puzzles, going on walks, walking around the city, and visiting the botanical gardens. As a family, we will also look forward to the visits that Dan’s family makes to Colorado. We enjoy spending time rafting and camping with our friends and their children. We believe it takes a village to raise a child and your child will have a loving and accepting village!

About Us

We met through mutual friends while we were rafting during our town’s river festival. Amber quickly fell in love with Dan’s smile and ability to connect deeply with everyone he meets. Dan fell for Amber’s eyes and driven nature. Our love for each other grew quickly as we started sharing our passions for being outside and cooking together. We connect over our mutual love for being active and enjoying the surrounding wilderness. We strive to communicate well and work through challenges in life together. Our strong love for each other and humor keep us happy and laughing. Dan asked Amber to marry him on a rafting and camping trip with friends and family. We got married with a small group of our closest friends and family where we had one of our first dates at 12,000 feet above sea level in a gorgeous mountain basin where the mountains kiss the sky. Our most important adventure and our most lucid dream is to grow our family through adoption.

Our Lifestyle

We strive to have a balanced lifestyle. We like to eat well by buying local meat raised by 4-H students that Amber works with and by growing a lot of our own vegetables. We love to spend time cooking together. We both grew up eating dinner around the dinner table with family, have continued to do this as a couple, and will have nightly family meals around the table with your child. During the weekends we like to spend time around our home being creative in the art studio or woodworking shop. We also like to go on adventures in the mountains on the weekends. We fell in love in the mountains, said “I do” in the mountains, and will spend a lot of time together in the mountains as a family. We both plan to take time off when we bring a child home and Dan looks forward to taking extended time off to stay home with them. Amber has holiday weeks and summers off of work and looks forward to spending this time together as a family. Amber having the same schedule as your child once they are of school age is very important to us!

Why We are Choosing to Adopt

We want nothing more than to have children. After struggling with infertility, we knew adoption was the right path to building our family. We recognize how challenging making an adoption plan can be for you and want to not only love and raise your child, but also love and support you on your journey. Our families and friends are supportive of our adoption journey and excited to welcome your child into their lives.

The Nursery is Ready

We have a nursery set up for your child with the theme “Adventure Awaits”. From the crib, your child will look at painted walls with mountains. We will support your child to “dream big little one” like some of the quotes on the wall. Your child has a beautiful crib, changing table, and a hand-painted rocker that Amber’s dad made. We have books, toys, and clothes ready for your child. We look forward to rocking your child to sleep in the rocker after reading a book. We have strollers, baby carriers, car seats, a bike buggy, bouncy seat, baby swing, and many more items ready for your child.

Our Vacations

We are lucky to live where we do. It makes every week feel like a vacation when we are enjoying our beautiful region. With this being said, we still love to travel to new places to explore and learn about different cultures. We love to take multiple day rafting trips and camp on the river. We love to drive high into the mountains or deep into the desert with our RV to camp. We always enjoy visiting family in Iowa, Texas, Michigan, Indiana, New Jersey, Wisconsin, and New York. One of our favorite vacations was a road trip for our honeymoon to California to surf. Amber has traveled many times to places in Mexico and Central America. Dan has traveled to many places in Mexico and Europe. We look forward to sharing our passion for travel and exploring with your child. Once we grow our family through adoption, we look forward to taking a few months to explore Baja in our RV as a family!

Our Family Traditions

We love to cook together and sit down together for dinner every night. This is an intimate opportunity to hear about each other’s days. We have a tradition of sharing things we are grateful for before we begin eating. Examples include the little things in life like “my students made me laugh today.” or “I am grateful we went on a walk with my mom today.” When our niece and nephew are over for dinner we ask them, “what made you smile today?” This is a tradition that helps us see the positive in our days even if we had a rough day. We look forward to continuing this tradition with your child. Teaching optimism is important to us.

One of our favorite holiday traditions is cutting down a tree in the local national forest. We pick the tree out together and cut it down together. Once we get home we drink eggnog, listen to Christmas music, and decorate the tree with ornaments that we have collected throughout our lives. Amber’s favorite ornament is a teddy bear from her childhood. Dan’s favorite ornament is a moose snowboarding. We look forward to sharing this tradition with your child and hiking into the woods together to hunt for the perfect tree.

One the first big snow of the year, we will take your child sledding. This is something we love to do with our niece and nephew when school is canceled for a snow day!

Racial and Cultural Diversity

We enjoy learning about and celebrating different cultures both locally and through our travels. The uniqueness of people around the world is what makes it a beautiful place. We have friends and family members of different ethnicities and with many different cultural backgrounds. We have family members who have been on different parts of the adoption triad. Your child’s culture will be something we learn about so we can share it with them. His or her ethnicity is something to be proud of and celebrated. It is important to us that we teach them acceptance, tolerance, and love. In our house, we believe kindness is everything. We also know that racism is alive and well in our country. We will have ongoing conversations about racism and support your child to express their feelings and externalize racism. We will support your child to have the tools to respond to situations and model this response for them.

We live twenty minutes away from a Native American cultural center and look forward to bringing your child to the Bear Dance traditionally occurring in spring to strengthen community ties and aid in hunting. Another local support for your child is our local youth organization that supports children in our community by creating mentor relationships with youth and adults of different ethnicities.

Our Relationship with You

We will respect the level of openness you are comfortable with and if you are open, we would love for you to continue to be a part of your child’s life so that he or she will always know of the tremendous love you have for them. We will always support your child to know and to be proud of their family history. You will always be part of your child’s adoption story and we promise to never forget that.

We promise to raise your child with family values of kindness, generosity, resiliency, and respect for others.

We promise to surround your child with love and acceptance from us, our family, and our friends.

We promise to respect you and to never forget that.
