From Us to You

Dear Expectant Mom,

We’re Kelly and Kevin. We can’t wait to show your child the magic that is Virginia – watching the cherry blossoms bloom, hiking the expansive Virginia trails, strolling through the DC monuments, exploring museums, and eating our way through the diverse food scene. Thank you for considering us to adopt your child. We promise to do our best to do right by you and your baby. We will be honest and open about their adoption. We want them to know they have two loving dads, and also the love of you, their birth mother. We will create a positive environment where they can know you and their history. We love taking photos of our adventures together, and we would love to share those new adventures with you.

Kelly works in hospitality making people’s dream vacations come true. He’s a curious introvert who loves cuddling up with a good book. Kevin works in IT helping people understand and accept change. He’s an extrovert who loves watching reality tv shows like Survivor. While our worlds sound vastly different we found love in travel, food, hiking, Harry Potter, and collecting memories. We’ve dreamed of having a family ever since our first date, and we can’t wait to start collecting memories as a family.

Our friends and family are just as excited as we are to invite your newborn into our lives. We have lifelong friends that live close by that are ready and happy to visit all the time. Both our families live a quick flight away and are itching to book tickets to visit and help us start our lives together.

We are inspired by your courage and selflessness as you embark on your adoption journey. We’ll never fully understand how tough it is and we’ll never be able to thank you enough, but we promise that your baby will be raised in a caring home full of love, laughter, and adventures. They’ll be supported every step of the way as they pursue their passions in life. We’ve been preparing for this moment, and we can’t wait to welcome your baby into our nurturing home.

Why We are Choosing to Adopt

Both of us have such a huge soft spot for our families and have always wanted to start a family of our own. One of the most important topics on our first date, other than our mutual love for Harry Potter, was that we both wanted to have children. It’s been 5 years in the making, and we feel like now is the right time. We’ve traveled the world, settled down in Virginia, saved enough money, and are more in love than ever before.

We love kids of all ages, but we chose to go with domestic adoption because we wanted to have all the memories and experiences of raising a newborn. We know it’s going to be a challenging journey, but we can’t wait to have a child in our home. Hear their first laugh, see their first steps and shower them with love.

About Kevin, by Kelly

Kevin always strives to make sure our life is full of happiness and memories. He is highly organized and constantly on the lookout for new activities. One of my favorite things about Kevin is his sense of humor. He likes to be silly and makes sure we have a good laugh every day. He is always my favorite person to experience life with.

When you meet Kevin, you will notice how kind and caring he is. He goes out of his way to make sure that everyone else is comfortable and he has so much compassion. He values the people in his life and makes sure that he is checking in with his friends and prioritizes time with all of his family. Kevin keeps our life full of adventure, family, and fun.

I can already imagine Kevin including the little one in his dances around the living room, making your baby laugh as he gives voices to their stuffed animals and sharing his love of hugs. He is going to be an amazing dad!

About Kelly, by Kevin

Kelly is my husband, my best friend, and the one I want to share all of life’s experiences. I’ve always admired his ability to stay positive when things go wrong. Our first trip to Paris was filled with rain and I was devastated, but Kelly kept finding ways to keep us dry and still having fun. He’s the smartest person I know, and the one that I trust to solve any problems that come our way. The best part is he never fails to put a smile on my face while doing so. Whether it’s dancing around the room or cracking the worst puns because he knows it’ll make me laugh.

His family and friends mean the world to him. I love the way he gushes over our new niece, how he will call his family on vacation to let them know how much fun we’re having, and how he reminds me to text my parents cute photos of us. He has the biggest heart of anyone I know and I can’t wait to see the amazing father he becomes. I’m anxiously waiting for the day that he choreographs a special dance with the little one to cheer me up and I can already see the two of them goofing around in the kitchen trying to cook special meals.

How We Met

Like many modern-day romances, we met on Tinder. For us, it is a story about finding love at the perfect time. Kelly got a huge promotion that required him to move to Denver. A week later Kevin quit his traveling job and moved to Denver in hopes of finding love. Neither of us had friends in the city, but we were lucky enough to immediately find each other.

Our first date was at a local ramen shop called Osaka. Kevin didn’t love the food, but that didn’t stop us from exploring all of Denver for the perfect restaurant. We quickly became inseparable as we ate our way through the city and hiked every mountain to burn off the calories. Food and adventure brought us together, and we can’t wait to keep building more memories.

Lifestyle

We are constantly looking for adventures and experiences. Our life is filled with trying new restaurants, exploring museums, relaxing in the park, and playing board games with friends. Food is especially a huge part of our lives. We love all things noodles and dumplings, but we also enjoy trying new flavor combinations from other countries. Food is a time for us to really connect and destress from the day.

Most of our time is spent in the city exploring, but we always look forward to spending the warmer months outdoors. Hiking is a big part of our lives, and we try to spend some time in nature every weekend. It’s a great way to burn off the calories from eating, but it’s also a chance for us to escape the busy city life, enjoy the moment together and take in some gorgeous views. We want your child to enjoy the beauty of nature from a young age. We will start the process with some family walks at our local park and then plan some hikes so we can bring them along in their very own hiking carrier until they are old enough to try hiking on their own.

Our Cat, Elba

Our Cat, Elba, is a 12-year-old rescue and she views herself as the protector of our family. Kelly’s mom rescued Elba for him when he had moved away from home because she didn’t want him going home to an empty apartment. She has always been a friendly loving ally who wants to be petted at all times.

Kevin did not have pets growing up so it took him some time to adjust, but now that he works from home they have developed a special relationship. They check in on each other throughout the day and have special games that they play.

Elba is great with kids and babies. Her hobbies include playing with toys, napping in the sun, and purring on our laps.

Home & Neighborhood

Our home is our safe space, and it’s constantly filled with love and laughter. Kevin spends his day working from home. He has a desk in the guest bedroom, but spends most of his time on the phone in meetings, cleaning the apartment, and doing laundry. His flexible job will be perfect when it comes to taking care of a child. Kelly comes home in the evening, and that’s when family time starts. We can’t wait to add a child to our daily routines – walking around the neighborhood, eating delicious food, and snuggling on the couch.

On Saturdays, our neighborhood has a farmers market that we have become regulars at. Your child will be able to try new, fresh food and take part in this community. We are lucky to have neighbors who are friendly, outgoing, and have growing families of their own. Their kids play in the building’s outdoor space and we are excited to join the fun with your child.

The city is a short ride away when we’re looking for a bit of an adventure. We love to take advantage of the free museums and many great sightseeing opportunities. We are excited to take out the stroller to show your child the monuments and are looking forward to their first trip to the zoo! If we aren’t exploring the city on the weekend, then we’re busy soaking up the sun and hiking. We have started a list of baby friendly hikes so that we can start building these memories soon.

Racial & Cultural Diversity

We think it’s crucial to learn about new cultures, meet new people, and hear their stories. This is why we love traveling around the world. Nothing will beat stargazing to traditional Moroccan music in the Sahara Desert, attending a week-long Indian wedding, or experiencing authentic street food in Singapore. These first-hand experiences really open our eyes and give us a chance to better connect with others around us.

As a biracial couple, it’s important to us to learn about our roots but to also expand our understanding of others. Vietnamese culture is a big part of our identity, but we wouldn’t be the family we are today if we didn’t take the time to learn about other races and cultures. No matter what cultural background your child comes from, we will do our best to make sure they understand where they came from and all the beauty in the world. We will do this by exploring restaurants and museums to learn more about different cultures, by seeking our inclusive toys and learning tools at home, and by seeking out opportunities in the community where your child can learn the beauty of different cultures.

Our Families & Friends

Family and friends mean everything to us. Kelly grew up in a small close-knit family, while Kevin grew up with over 15 uncles/aunts and more cousins than he can count. We’re lucky enough to have family all over the states – from California to Texas, to Wisconsin to New York. We love visiting them as much as possible, so we’re constantly traveling. Admittedly, our favorite part about visiting them is all the food Kevin’s mom feeds us. She makes the best Vietnamese food and even packs weeks’ worth of food for us to take home. Kelly’s sister just had her first baby girl, and she can’t wait to have a cousin to share her toys with.

Our friends are our extended family and we both have our own friend groups of 15+ years. We visit when we can, but spend countless hours catching up on Zoom and playing online games. We’re also lucky enough to have our best friends in Washington DC. They’re a short Uber away, and are already giving us baby books and gifts. Regardless of where our friends and family are, they’re excitedly waiting to visit and set up playdates.

Family Traditions

Traditions are important to us because they’re great memories with family. These are a few of our favorites:

Lunar New Year – We celebrate traditional New Year on Jan 1 but also Lunar New Year between Jan and Feb. The holiday is filled with family, food, firecrackers, and carnivals. It’s a tradition where we hand out red envelopes and celebrate a lucky year. Your baby will be showered with love by us and our family as we celebrate the new year as they will all want to share in the blessings.

Summer Small Towns – We have a thirst for adventure, and it shows in the summer. We love to explore small towns, see their traditions, explore local shops, and enjoy local restaurants. We can’t wait to share this experience with your baby- letting them have a taste of the local ice cream, dipping their toes in the stream, and snuggling up with a mug of hot chocolate as they get older.

Christmas – The month of December is always filled with winter activities and family. We spend the holidays exploring Christmas markets, decorating our home, baking cookies, seeing zoo lights and opening presents with family. These traditions will evolve and we are excited for your child to be able to leave their own freshly baked cookies with milk for Santa and then see their eyes light up as they open their gifts on Christmas!

We are excited to continue these traditions with our family, as well as create new traditions!

What We Will Teach

We will have a home that is safe, full of love, and where your child will be encouraged to learn and pursue their unique interests and passions. It’s important to us that they learn to be independent and responsible while also fostering creativity. We will teach them about their culture, as well as our cultures and other cultures of the world. They’ll learn all about empathy, compassion, and the importance of family.

We will provide them with an environment where they can be carefree. We will teach them how to hike, play board games, learn musical instruments and participate in sports – whatever their interests may be. We will support them in their activities because we believe these experiences will build character, independence, and confidence. Above all, we will make sure your child always knows our love, your love, and has support as they grow.

Above all, we promise to love your child unconditionally and to always have their best interest in mind. We promise to support your wishes about your involvement in their future and incorporate traditions you value in your baby’s life. We would welcome the opportunity to share pictures, stories and even have visits with you as your child grows. Your baby will have every opportunity, support, and guidance for a happy and healthy future. We will always provide a loving and safe home. We will draw on our upbringing and make sure your baby is able to see the world, experience its different cultures, and develop a strong work ethic. Most importantly, they will know your love and always be loved by us and our family.
