From Me to You

Hello, my name is Elisabetta. I am Italian, and I have been living in DC for almost 14 years where I work for as an international in-house lawyer.

I always wanted to be a mother, but I have an infertility issue (7 miscarriages) and, after a period of “pause” (following the last miscarriage), I felt that adoption is the way to go for me. I am wholehearted supported in this desire to adopt by my family and all my close friends.

I have a lot of love to give, and I will unconditionally love your child. I will make sure that your child will feel safe, protected, supported, and loved. I will also make sure that your child will have access to top education to develop her/his potential to the maximum. I will provide guidance, direction, and ongoing opportunities to your child to explore her/his individual and unique interests. I will, always and unconditionally, stand by your child in every way I can.

Your child will grow up in DC. She/he will be brought up in an international environment (with American and Italian culture) and she/he will be brought up speaking English and Italian. Once a year, we will be visiting (for around 2 weeks) my parents’ farm in the center of Italy. This is the place where I was born and brought up. This is a beautiful special place to me, a slow-paced place, where nature is simply magnificent and where I still have some animals.  Your child will learn from an early age the beauty of nature and the importance of animals in one’s life.

At the time of adoption, I can take up to 6 months of maternity leave from work, and I am also planning to get a live-in nanny for when I will have to return to work (although I will be able to work from home one or two days per week).

We will travel, especially to Italy, but wherever we will travel to I will make sure you will receive pictures and news about your child.

I am humbled by you. Thank you for your immense trust in me.

A warm big hug.

Elisabetta

About Me

I was brought up on a farm in the center of Italy. I had a wonderful childhood. I was surrounded by amazing nature, many animals (horses, sheep, cows, goats, dogs, chickens, rabbits, etc.) and a lot of love. I studied law in a small medieval town close to the farm and became a lawyer in Italy, and then moved to the UK to learn English while working as an au-pair in a family where I was taking care of two children (for 3 years). Once I was proficient in English, I did a LL.M (master’s in law) in the UK and then started my career as an international lawyer. I have worked in different countries, and I speak different languages and I love learning new languages and discovering new cultures. I have been working and living in DC for almost 14 years now and I consider DC my home. I love reading and listening to music and, for me, respect of others and the world where we live is fundamental.

My Family and Friends

My parents lived all their lives in a beautiful farm in a small village in the center of Italy. Unfortunately, both of my parents have passed. My father was a farmer and passed away last year, while my mother was a housewife and she passed away recently.  My sister and her husband work in Rome and I am very close to them. I have a lot of cousins with small and adolescent children, and I enjoy very much spending time with them, talking with me, and taking care of them, when I am in Italy. My best friends are in DC, Canada, Italy and in Europe. They are wonderful, and we support each other a lot. I consider them as being part of my extended family. My partner is French, and he lives in North Africa for work related reasons, and, from time to time, I also go and visit him.

My Lifestyle

I have a busy job as an international in-house lawyer, which I love. At the same time, I always make sure to find time for myself and to have a good balance between work and personal life. I like eating healthy organic food and, having been brought up on a farm, I always try to buy vegetables, fruits and meat (which are produced locally) in the farmers’ market close to my house. I like cooking my own food with simple ingredients (Italian style) – and it is so tasty! – and also enjoy spoiling my friends by cooking Italian dishes for them (pasta with homemade pesto is one of my specialties).  It is very important to me that I keep fit and I walk or bike to work every day, and, during the weekend, I do yoga and stretching in the gym around the corner from my house.

Why I'm Choosing to Adopt

I always wanted to be a mother, but I have an infertility issue. I had 7 miscarriages and I also tried in vitro fertilization, but nothing worked. Following the last miscarriage, few years ago, I decided to take a period of “pause” to regain energy and focus.  After taking a period of pause and reflection, I felt that adoption was the path for me to follow.  I have a lot of love to give, and I will do my very best to be a wonderful “second” mother to your child.

My Traditions

I was taught by my parents that traditions are important, that they keep families and friends together and united, and that they make us stronger and more solid human beings. From time to time, it is important to pause in life to pray, reflect, give thanks to our family’s members, to friends and to the Lord. I am catholic and I celebrate Christmas, Easter and – living in the USA – I also celebrate Thanksgiving, which is a holiday that I really love.

My Promise to You

I promise you I will be a loving, caring, and supportive mother to your child, and I will do everything I can to support her/him in every way I can. We will travel, especially to Italy, but wherever we will travel to I will make sure you will receive pictures and news about your child. I also promise you that we will speak a lot about you, that your child will know that you are her/his mother. I wanted also to say that culture and race have always be honored and celebrated in my family and I promise you they will continue to be honored and celebrated.

My Home and Neighborhood

I live in DC in a spacious semi-detached 4 floor house located in a quiet residential neighborhood.  My home is full of sun, books and music and it has two beautiful decks full of plants (lavender/roses/hibiscus/rosemary/sage/and a mini lemon tree) which I have all grown myself and of which I take care myself with a lot of attention and love (I call it my “suspended garden”).  My neighborhood is culturally diverse, and I am five minutes’ walk to shopping and restaurants. Within my community there are several playgrounds, bike, walking paths, tennis courts, a community pool, national museums and the national zoo. I love my home and my neighborhood, and I love DC.

My Pets

I have several animals on my parents’ farm in Italy and my sister takes care of them while I am in DC. I have two very intelligent donkeys (Rosa and her daughter Violetta), a dog – my sister and I have adopted – called Achille, a goat called Nina, 7 beautiful cats, and a rooster called Einstein and 10 hens. I do not have animals in DC because my belief is that animals should be free to run and explore in nature – but I may change my mind because I miss pets in my everyday life too much.

My Relationship with My Parents

My father was a farmer (he passed away last year), and my mother was a housewife (she passed away recently). I loved and respected my parents immensely for all the hard work they did and for making possible for me and my sister to get a very good education, which allowed us to become successful lawyers. They were simple but beautiful people with big hearts, and very hard working. After a devastating earthquake in the center of Italy few years ago, my father got a stroke and remained paralyzed and my mother got dementia and, suddenly, their happy bucolic life became a challenging life. I took some time off work and made sure that they were safe, that a new house was rebuilt for them and that they had the right people taking care of them. I dedicated these last few years of my life to support them and take care of them in every way I could.
