A Letter of Love, From Us to You

We are so grateful for the opportunity to introduce ourselves and humbled that you are considering us as parents for your child. Your interest in adoption is possibly the most selfless act a mother could do for her child. We admire your courage and strength.

We met when we were in high school and have been happily married for over 12 years. Mike is a check airman and Kristina is a personal caregiver. However, Kristina is thrilled to become a full-time stay-at-home mom and devote her time to raising a child. Even though we currently live in North Carolina, we both grew up in Wisconsin and are true Midwesterners at heart. We’ve always had dreams of a family and couldn’t be more excited to welcome a child into our lives.

Both of us are very close to our families, and they’re anxiously awaiting a new member to join the bunch. Your child will instantly be loved by aunts, uncles, cousins, grandparents, friends and their pets galore. We get together regularly for weekend visits, holidays, big events, and vacations. In our life, adoption is already present and spoken about openly. We have friends and family who have adopted, so your child will be surrounded by acceptance, love, and support.

If you choose us, we’ll be certain your child knows the very first act of love they received was your decision to pursue adoption. Open adoption is an option for us, but ultimately the decision is yours to make. No matter what, we promise a lifetime of commitment to loving and caring for your child. We extend our hearts to you as you continue on this life-changing journey.

Why We are Choosing to Adopt

If there is one thing in life we are certain about, it is that we are truly meant to be parents. But our path to parenthood isn’t about getting pregnant, since we knew from the start of our relationship that pregnancy wouldn’t be possible for us. Instead, it is about finding the child that was put on this earth to be ours to love. We have family and friends who have adopted and their hearts and homes are bursting with the same love as biological families, if not more. We hold dear the idea of a family sewn together with love and can’t think of a greater honor than raising a child whose mother chose us as parents.

About Kristina

Kristina has a friendly, upbeat personality with a smile that can light up a room. She makes friends easily and always has a kind word for everyone. She’s independent, witty, and smart. She knows what’s important to her and will drop everything to be there when someone she loves is in need. She’s unbelievably resourceful, with a MacGyver solution to every problem. She is the glue that keeps our household together, and she loves calendars, labels, and lists. Whether building homes with Habitat for Humanity, volunteering with the elderly, or teaching inner-city youth, she’s always enjoyed giving back. She truly appreciates life and is grateful for all she has in it.

She is currently a personal caregiver, but is excited to leave the workforce to become a full-time stay-at-home mom. We were both raised with a stay-at-home parent and know firsthand the benefits it provides. Kristina has always dreamed of taking on that role, and her kindness, compassion, and understanding will make her an amazing mother.

About Mike

Mike is that friendly, easygoing guy you couldn’t possibly dislike. He makes friends everywhere he goes. He appreciates the simple things in life. You can see the peace on his face as you watch him drive the lawn mower, mowing stripes in the lawn. He values hard work and takes personal pride in putting his best foot forward. He’s an amazing role model and was selected to be an instructor in the airline’s training department. His gentle, patient personality makes him an excellent teacher and listener. He enjoys sharing his knowledge and experience and volunteers in his free time to mentor new employees. He’s passionate in life, and you can hear that passion across the house as he cheers for the Green Bay Packers. It’s easy to tell that Mike is the oldest child by the way he cares and looks out for the people he loves. He also has an amazing ability to rock babies to sleep, and we often joke that he is the baby whisperer. It’s this and so much more that will make him a loving and devoted father.

Our Lifestyle

We are fortunate that our careers allow us a lot of quality time to spend with each other, our family and friends, and one day with a child. We’re adventurous, energetic, and love life. We never stop learning and love to seek out new experiences. We enjoy boating on the nearby lake, catching a dinner theater show, and hiking in the state park. We also appreciate quiet times at home making breakfast together, telling stories by a backyard fire, and curling up watching movies.

We truly have a wonderful lifestyle to raise a child, one with the necessary time and dedication. We look forward to a future of childhood milestones, teaching life skills, sharing passions, and making memories. Despite its challenges, Kristina knows being a stay-at-home mom will be one of the most rewarding of life’s experiences and it will allow for both of us to nurture a child in a safe and loving environment.

Home & Neighborhood

Our neighborhood is in a small suburb outside of a large city. It’s a quaint lake community with amazing parks, nature, and wildlife. There are always families walking their dogs and children outside playing. It really is that surreal neighborhood where people borrow cups of sugar and lend a helping hand. It was our neighborhood we fell in love with before we even found our home.

Our home is located at the end of a quiet cul-de-sac, surrounded by beautiful trees. There’s a fire pit, children’s playset, and plenty of grass for a game of soccer. The inside is filled with lots of love and hours, upon hours of sweat equity. It’s spacious enough for large gatherings of family and friends. Most importantly, there is already a nursery waiting for a child that was painted by Mike and is filled with handmade touches sewn by Kristina.

Our Cat, Marley

Meet Marley, our 10-year-old Himalayan rescue cat. She was surrendered to the animal shelter weighing a mere 4 pounds and had very little fur from malnutrition. Today, she is healthy with beautiful long fur. She has a misleading grumpy face but instead is gentle, sweet, and loves people. She makes loud noises when she eats and is always sure to let you know when she wants attention. She enjoys being brushed, curling up on your lap, watching birds out the window, and laying in front of the fireplace. One day she’ll make a wonderful snuggle buddy for a child.

Vacations

We absolutely love traveling, and we’re always sure to drag lots of family and friends along with us. Thanks to Mike’s job at the airline, the sky’s the limit! We not only have had the opportunity to see the United States but the entire world, unlike most ever will. Whether on the beach or in the mountains, domestic or afar, the time always includes taking in some local culture and meals together.

Recently, we took a 40-mile backpacking trip to the Havasupai Indian Reservation in the Grand Canyon. We were so sore we couldn’t walk for days after we returned home! But camping along the warm blue-green waters and swimming in the stunning waterfalls were unforgettable and made the trip worthwhile. Later that year we also explored New Zealand in an RV. We tubed glowworm caves, hiked over a glacier, and kayaked fjords. Our enthusiasm for travel and adventure is something we can’t wait to share with a child…there is just so much beauty and diversity the world has to offer!

Our Families & Friends

We are both very close to our families and see them often. We get together for weekend visits, holidays, big events, and yearly family vacations. Our most recent family vacations have packed the entire family into a beach house in Georgia, a lake cabin in Wisconsin, and a home atop Mt. Hood. We have days filled with activities (swimming, museums, boogie boarding, hiking, building sandcastles) and evenings of quality time (movie nights, puzzles, games, homemade meals, or dinners out together).

Our Midwestern friends and family are “willing” to come to visit beautiful North Carolina to escape the deep freeze or make a pit stop at our house on their drives to Florida each year. We regularly host our friends and family, and their adorable kids. Mike often jokes that we run a bed-and-breakfast, and we’re not kidding when we say we’ve had times when our house has been fully “booked” for months! We absolutely love the company of a full house and enjoy all of the good times spent together.

Right now we are the fun “aunt” and “uncle” to everyone’s children, and just about everyone we know has children. We enjoy spoiling their kids with love, laughter, and wonderful memories. You’ll often find all of us at the trampoline park, aquarium, or waterpark, or we might be driving go-carts, eating pizza, or playing miniature golf. Other times, we’ll stay in as a group, make loads of popcorn and eat candy while binge-watching Disney movies in our home theater.

Since we’re transplants to North Carolina, most of our local friends live in our neighborhood and are from elsewhere as well. We run into each other daily in the cul-de-sac, even if it is only at the mailbox in our pajamas. We regularly get together to grill, spend an afternoon boating on the lake, or watch a football game. Our neighbors have become our home away from home and very dear friends.

Family Traditions

All of our traditions seem to revolve around food, family, and friends….but what better things are there in life?! Holidays are our absolute favorite times of the year! We spend Super Bowl Sunday with friends enjoying football appetizers and pizza. The Fourth of July is spent with friends grilling outside with fireworks over the lake at dusk. At Halloween, we decorate the front door, dress up in costumes and hand out full-size candy bars to the trick-or-treaters. Thanksgiving gathers Kristina’s entire family at our house for a feast prepared together, including tasty homemade pies. Christmas is probably the craziest holiday of all and it lasts the entire month of December, starting with Christmas music! We go overboard with decorations, days of cookie baking, and watch every Christmas movie at least once. There is endless holiday cheer! Early in the month, our neighborhood hosts a potluck dinner with gifts shared in the White Elephant game. Later in the month, we spend the holiday with each of our families. At Mike’s family holiday there is a Christmas ham, Secret Santa, and the magic of Christmas through the eyes of our little nieces and nephew. At Kristina’s family holiday there is the Christmas Dice game, decorating of gingerbread houses, Christmas Trivia, and a roast beast prepared by Kristina’s brother-in-law. And don’t forget birthdays throughout the year…homemade cakes, bad singing, and balloons and decorations galore.

We don’t even need a traditional reason to get our friends and family together. One time we threw a “you’re having heart surgery tomorrow” party for Kristina’s brother. We invited our family and his friends out for appetizers and bowling. It was just a special way to remind him we loved him and to rally support when he really needed it.

Our Promise to You

We promise a lifetime of love for your child. We promise to nurture and support your child through all of life’s many hurdles. We promise to parent with a listening ear, a loving heart, and an open mind. We promise to teach your child values–honesty, respect, generosity, patience, compassion, and service. We cannot express our admiration for your selfless love and the honor it is to be considered as parents for your little one. We’re open to an adoption plan of your design, one that recognizes the level of involvement you choose. Please know we’ll strive to honor you and the decision you’ve made. If you choose us, we hope you can find peace knowing your child will grow up in a loving home with parents who searched the country to find them.
