A Letter of Love, From Us to You

Your interest in adoption is possibly the most selfless act a mother could do for her child, and we admire your courage and strength. We’ve always known adoption would be our path. Maybe it’s because Kristina was taken in and cared for by a friend’s family when she was young and our definition of family extends beyond blood. Or maybe it’s because we have known pregnancy would never be possible for us. No matter the reason, adoption holds a very special place in our hearts.

We met when we were in high school and have been happily married for over 11 years. Mike is a pilot and Kristina is a personal caregiver; however, Kristina is thrilled to become a stay-at-home mom. Even though we currently live in North Carolina, we both grew up in Wisconsin and are true Midwesterners at heart. We’ve always had dreams of raising a beautiful family and couldn’t be more excited to welcome a child into our lives!

Both of us are very close to our families, and they’re anxiously awaiting a new member to join the bunch. Your child instantly will be loved by aunts, uncles, cousins, grandparents, friends and their pets galore. We get together regularly for weekend visits, holidays, big events and vacations. In our life, adoption is already present and spoken about openly. We have numerous friends and family with children who were adopted and Kristina’s sister is currently in the process of adopting siblings. Your child will be surrounded with acceptance, love and support.

We’ll be certain your child knows the very first act of love they received was your decision to pursue adoption. An open adoption is an option for us, but ultimately the decision is yours to make. No matter what, we promise a lifetime of commitment to loving and caring for your child. We extend our hearts to you as you continue on this life-changing journey!

With love,
Mike and Kristina

Our Lifestyle

We’re active, energetic and love life. We’re fortunate to have careers that allow for a lot of quality time to spend with each other, our family and friends, and one day with a child. Every week at our house has a three-day weekend! They’re often spent on the nearby lake boating, fishing, tubing and jet-skiing. Or we may head off to a park for hiking, camping and enjoying the great outdoors. On lazy weekends you’ll find us at home binge-watching shows, working in the garden, doing puzzles or playing cards and board games. No matter the activity you’ll almost always find us with friends and family.

We never stop learning and always seek out new experiences. We have a great passion and respect for nature. Education is important to us, not only because it offers an advantage in life, but because of its exposure to new and exciting ideas. We’re ambitious and have strong Midwestern work ethics. We understand the pride and importance of a job well done. We value kindness, compassion, gratitude, equality, forgiveness, happiness and service. Teamwork really does make the dream work. Our family and friends are our lives, and we’re there for each other in good times and in bad. We truly have a wonderful life filled with love and we are very grateful for it.

About Kristina

Kristina always has had the ability to light up a room. That is why I was immediately drawn to her when we were teenagers. She has a friendly, upbeat personality with a beautiful smile. She makes friends easily and always has a kind word for everyone. Not only is Kristina extremely personable, but she is also one the smartest, most driven people I’ve ever met. From building homes with Habitat for Humanity to spending time with inner-city youth, she’s always wanted to give back. Kristina is also my rock. I can always rely on her to keep our lives organized. Whether it’s reminding me of a social event for the upcoming week, or simply that it’s garbage night, she is organized and thorough. Above all, Kristina is my best friend, the person who is always there for me, who I share my hopes and dreams with and who I have had by my side every step of the way. It’s Kristina’s love, kindness, compassion and understanding that make her a wonderful wife and also will make her a wonderful mother.

About Mike

Mike and I were drawn to each other from the moment we met in high school. We always asked friends the whereabouts of one another or wound up hanging out with each other at a party. It was as though we knew we’d one day end up together but wanted to experience life apart for a bit. It’s not hard to like Mike…I know because he’s my best friend. His reserved, patient personality makes him extremely easy-going and will make him an excellent father. He’s gentle, loyal, and kind. He values hard work and takes personal pride in putting his best foot forward. He’s a leader at work and an outstanding role model. At home, he’s affectionate and warm, and after 18 years together, we still look forward to seeing each other after a long day. He’s amazing with children. It’s heartwarming to see him read to our niece or play catch with our friends’ kids. I’m looking forward to the day he has a child of his own to love and cherish.

Home & Neighborhood

Our neighborhood is located in a small suburb not far outside of a major city. It’s a quaint community with large lots, beautiful mature trees, rolling hills, and water views. It’s filled with families with children, and everyone on our street knows each other by name. There are always people outside walking their dogs and children riding their bikes and playing with friends. In the summer the kids swim and fish at the community dock and in the winter, they gather to build snowmen and sled down the neighborhood hill. We regularly get together as neighbors to enjoy a meal, an afternoon boating on the lake, or a football game.

Our home is located at the end of a quiet cul-de-sac just a block from the lake. It backs up to a forest filled with deer, fox, birds, squirrels, and rabbits. It’s warm and inviting and boasts enough room for all our visiting family and friends. Most importantly, it already has a room ready and waiting for a child.

Our Cat, Marley

Meet Marley, our 8-year-old Himalayan rescue cat. She was surrendered to animal control weighing a mere 4 pounds and had very little fur due to extreme malnutrition. Today, she is very healthy with beautiful long fur and an adorable grumpy face. She is gentle, loving, and sweet. She enjoys being brushed, basking in the sunshine, and watching birds out the window. She makes loud noises when she eats and is always sure to tell you when she wants attention. She especially loves snuggling on the couch (rooting for the Packers in her jersey during football season). One day she’ll make an excellent furry buddy for a child.

Travels

We absolutely love traveling, and we’re always sure to drag lots of family and friends along with us. Thanks to Mike’s job as a pilot, the sky’s the limit! We not only have had the opportunity to see the United States but the entire world, unlike most ever will. Whether on the beach or in the mountains, domestic or afar, the time always includes taking in some local culture and meals together. Our enthusiasm for travel and adventure is something we can’t wait to share with a child…there is just so much beauty and diversity the world has to offer!

Recently, we took a 40-mile backpacking trip to the Havasupai Indian Reservation in the Grand Canyon. We were so sore we couldn’t walk for days after we returned home! But camping along the warm blue-green waters and swimming in the stunning waterfalls were unforgettable and made the trip worthwhile. Later that year we also explored New Zealand in an RV. We tubed glowworm caves, hiked over a glacier and kayaked fjords. We’re hoping our next vacation is a tour of Iceland and its caves, geothermic spas, and maybe if we’re lucky, we’ll catch a glimpse of the Northern Lights.

Our Families & Friends

We are both very close to our families and see them often. We get together for weekend visits, holidays, big events, and yearly family vacations. Our most recent family vacations have packed the entire family into a beach house in Georgia, a lake cabin in Wisconsin, and a home atop Mt. Hood. We have days filled with activities (swimming, museums, boogie boarding, hiking, building sandcastles) and evenings of quality time (movie nights, puzzles, games, homemade meals or dinners out together).

We are lucky that our Midwestern friends and family are “willing” to come down to visit beautiful North Carolina to escape the deep freeze or make a pit stop at our house on their drive to Florida each year. We regularly host our friends and family, and their adorable kids. Mike often jokes that we run a bed-and-breakfast, and we’re not kidding when we say we’ve had times when our house has been fully booked for months! We absolutely love the company of a full house and enjoy all of the good times spent together.

Right now we are the fun aunt and uncle to everyone’s children, and just about everyone we know has children. We enjoy spoiling their kids with love, laughter, and wonderful memories. You’ll often find all of us at the trampoline park, aquarium, or waterpark, or we might be driving go-carts, eating pizza, or playing miniature golf. Other times, we’ll all stay in as a group, make loads of popcorn and eat king-size candy while binge-watching Disney movies in the theater. We’re the house that is always stocked with juice boxes and popsicles, and we couldn’t be more ready for your child to join in on our adventures.

Family Traditions

All of our traditions seem to revolve around food, family and friends….but what better things are there in life?! Holidays are our absolute favorite times of the year! We spend Super Bowl Sunday with friends devouring appetizers and pizza. The Fourth of July is spent with friends grilling outside with fireworks over the lake at dusk. At Halloween, we decorate the front door, dress up in costumes and hand out full-size candy bars to the trick-or-treaters. Thanksgiving gathers Kristina’s entire family at our house for a feast prepared together around our kitchen island. We make beautiful, tasty homemade pies and eat until we can eat no more. Christmas is probably the craziest holiday of all and it lasts the entire month of December, starting with Christmas music! We go overboard with decorations, days of cookie baking and watch every Christmas movie at least once. There is endless holiday cheer! Early in the month, our neighborhood hosts a potluck dinner with gifts shared in the White Elephant game. Later in the month, we spend the holiday with both of our families. At Mike’s family holiday there is a Christmas ham, stockings overflowing with gifts, Secret Santa and the magic of Christmas through the eyes of our little nieces and nephew. At Kristina’s family holiday there is the Christmas Dice game, homemade Chex Party Mix, decorating of gingerbread houses, Christmas Trivia and a roast beast prepared by Kristina’s brother-in-law. And don’t forget birthdays throughout the year…homemade cakes, bad singing and balloons and decorations galore.

We don’t even need a real reason to get our friends and family together! One time we threw a “you’re having heart surgery tomorrow” party for Kristina’s brother and invited our family and his friends out for appetizers and bowling. It was just a special way to remind him we loved him and to rally support when he really needed it.
