One December day when I was running from the operating room to an office full of patients, I got this astounding phone call from our Adoption Advisor asking a question that changed our lives… “Do you want a baby?” We were so excited and filled with a thousand different thoughts that we had a hard time staying focused. Our Advisor was a Godsend. She explained in detail the birth parents, the adoptive process and gave us the love and support we needed. As you can imagine, there were a lot of tears of joy being at this as we cancelled work, made flight reservations and hugged a lot. We were lined up with the baby’s father and informed about all of the information that we needed to exchange.

I read many of the letters similar to the one that I am writing now. I believed that if good things could happen to others through adoption, then good things could happen for us too. We were matched with a beautiful, smart 18-year-old girl. As you know, she and I became very close. I did not experience any of the territorial, threatened feelings that I thought I might. I opened my heart to this girl, and she opened her heart to me.
